Raffles Coffee Shop

“Cute little restaurant located in the Lexington Hotel, very good customer service, food was pretty good had the skirt steak and it was delicious and tender cooked just right.”

“I had the eggs benedict, which were delicious and my friend had the bacon and cheese omelet which she really enjoyed.”

“What's sad is that all those things should be the norm for NYC restaurants and too often they're lacking one or more of them.”

  1. Breakfast to get one started if a push cart isn't an option. A sit down place with fast service and reliable food options. Nothing over the top, but it wasn't terrible either. So…meh.

  2. The service was a little rough due to the fact the servers had a poor command of the English language. The omelets were very good, fries very mediocre. The panini was a little plain.

They will need to take it up a notch or they are going to have a difficult time competing with so many other choices nearby.

  3. ok peeps, just make sure to ask if they have happy hour before you order! I made a mistake of assuming it was happy hour, took my colleagues there after raving about their happy hour, and ended up with them paying the full price. And when I asked, they just told me no happy hour because it's the holiday season. Isn't holiday season about giving your customers a holiday special and cheap drinks for a good time?!

  4. Had breakfast here this morning.  This is a bustling diner in midtown.  The staff was very quick and attentive and they seated us after a brief wait for a table.  Scored a booth.   We were attended to vey quickly but never felt rushed.  Food was very good and reasonably priced for Manhattan.  Basic eggs, pancakes and stuff for my wife and me.  My daughter had a nova salmon omelette which was huge and she said "delicious".

Good choice and would go again if staying in this area.

  5. Worst overpriced diner experience I have ever had in NYC. Trust the reviews of your fellow yelpers and avoid like the plague. The place is cash only but has no signage up indicating that. First I ordered the American breakfast. Bacon, eggs toast and hasbrowns. Hard to mess up right?. Wrong for $18 I had rancid tasting bacon, mushy potatoes and overcooked eggs. I couldn't eat it so I sent it back and asked for some rice krispies. They were served with warm milk eww. They still had the nerve to charge me for my uneaten 18.00 returned breakfast( beyond tacky). I don't know if this place really follows food safety and sanitation rules but judging by the other reviews here they need to rein-form their employees.

  6. This place is like a fancy diner. I had the hot chocolate and my friend ordered the cappuccino. They didn't have the dessert she wanted and there wasn't anything else either of us wanted to snack on so that's all we had. The bill was $36. They added filet mignon.  I love filet mignon,  too bad I didn't get to enjoy it. After they fixed the bill it was $8.

  7. Honestly, one of the worst hamburger experiences in my life.

Granted, being nestled next to several hotels serving strictly tourists, I was not surprised by the inhumane prices for food that was a bit par over standard IHOP fare, but we had just gotten in to our hotel and the ladies I was with did not want to walk that far or pay for the pricey meals in the hotel.  That being said, we headed straight across the street in the downpour for a late supper.

I looked around the menu and didn't really see anything that piqued my interest, so I thought I might as well try a burger.  My first one in NY, that is.  The $14 price tag for a 1/2 pound bland burger on a sesame seed bun that rivaled Burger King was an insult to the massive great burgers I've had back in town for around $6 (and the fries come with!) but an additional $1 for the fries…….a big $14.99 mistake on my part. My lady friends ordered the salmon entree, which was a good size with steamed veggies and rice pilaf and the other orders were a simple salad and two bowls of chicken rice soup.  They were happy with their selections but there was nothing special about it other than the exorbitant price tags.  The wait staff, however, are very friendly, upbeat, and quite socially vocal.  It was a verbal welcome after spending many cramped hours on a plane en route to my favorite city.

They headed back the next morning because it was closest to the hotel, but my poor ass ditched them and found a deli across the street that specialized in plentiful tasty and inexpensive breakfasts on the go: eggs, bacon, house potatoes, toast and a cup of coffee for $5.

    Can't beat that.

  8. Visited this place for breakfast yesterday….my thoughts:

Service: The waitress was very nice and patient and took time to give recommendations. Really liked her.

Food: Had oatmeal with strawberries at a ridiculous $9 price. My husband had pancakes and scrambled eggs. Neither were anything better than what one could get at a coffee shop for 1/3 of the price.

Maple syrup was not real, the eggs were greasy, the oatmeal was decent but not worth the price.

Ambiance: Nice place, seems clean. Kind of reminds me of Brooklyn Diner.

Bottom Line: This is a diner with very high prices. And worst of all? They only take cash. I won't be back for about a million different reasons.
