Vamos! Tacos & Tequila

“The ambiance is just want you want for a place with good music hosting a DJ, sports at the bar, low lights and awesome staff!”

“I am also a fan of their summer outdoor seating – it is not too loud on first ave and it is in the little Stuy Town store front off of the main road.”

“If you're there with a group, they'll even drop pitchers on your table so keep your booze fest flowing.”

  1. THIS PLACE IS HELLA FUN. I was so turnt from this brunch. I could not walk straight.
You can either order entree with your choice of drink orrrr you can pay i think $30? for 5 glasses of margarita with free entree. It's additional dollar charge for adding flavor to your drink but damn mango one is so worth it. I ordered con chorizo and it was delicious (or maybe i was too drunk, idk man) Anyways, I would definitely definitely DEFINITELY come back for more margaritas. Come here with fun group of friends who would turn up with you while eating!

  2. Before writing this review, I had dinner here a number of times so that I can try more than 2 things on the extensive menu Vamos has to offer. To start, the staff are excellent and attentive. It's all about eye contact that makes the experience  dining so enjoyable. The bar is not just for drinks, but for eats as well. The bar manager is simply put, amazing. He is always so attentive and his eye contact is on point. You don't even need to say "excuse me" he just KNOWS. The watermelon margarita's are fantastic and hit the spot. Use maestro tequila, it makes the margarita legit. The grilled soft shell shrimp tacos aren't on the menu, however, they will accommodate such requests and make it delicious. Go for the  Guacamole, a perfect shareable appetizer, thank me later. The Chicken&Shrimp Fajita is a large portion and is delicious. The chicken quesadilla is yummy. The skirt steak salad is a healthy lunch option. Basically, the chefs have got it down.

  3. I came here late afternoon on a lovely summer day with a few friends and we were able to get outdoor seating right away, which was really nice.

All of us decided to order the 3 tacos entree, which is $18. The entree comes with plantains, corn on the cob and rice & beans or chorizo mash. However, there was confusion about the sides. When we first asked the waitress, we thought that the plantains and corn on the cob would come with BOTH the rice & beans or chorizo mash but only the rice & beans came with the plantains and corn, so I was a bit disappointed when my chorizo mash came without those 2 additions. After I tasted it though, I opted to stick with the chorizo mash. It was basically mashed potato with bits of chorizo and tasted hearty, well seasoned and wonderful, though I would have liked more meat in it.

My friend ordered a side of Mexican corn on the cob with white cheese and sauce. It came broken up in 4 pieces so that we could all share, which was a thoughtful touch. The corn was just okay though; it was a bit bland for me.

There were 10 types of delicious tacos to choose from. I wish that we could choose 3 different flavors of tacos but we had to stick with one. I was tempted by the crispy shrimp, fried fish and marinated skirt steak. I finally decided on the fried fish and was able to try the crispy shrimp one because one of my friends ordered that one.

My beer battered fried fish tacos came with pickled onions, salsa and chipotle mayonnaise. There was only one piece of fish on the taco, but it tasted pretty good. The fish had a good flavor and I enjoyed the accompanying onions and mayo that came with it. I really liked the crispy shrimp taco as well. The shrimp was perfectly crisp, fresh and yummy! I also got to try some of my friend's roasted pork taco and that meat was so delicious… It was tender, juicy, incredibly flavorful and marinated in delightful sauces. I would recommend trying the pork and crispy shrimp tacos.

Our waitress tried her best, but in the beginning we asked her several questions and requested a few things but she wasn't clear in her answers and came back with something other than we asked for. She was also very defensive when we gently let her know we had asked for something else. As the meal continued though, she became more understanding and friendly with us.

I might come back to try some other treats since the menu is quite extensive, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

  4. A friend and I ventured here for happy hour before going to an outdoor movie.

    What did we get…
    $5 sangria & margarita's…pretty good
$8 chicken quesadilla… not that good and isn't a real quesadilla
$5 tacos..can't really mess that up.

So basically you're going for the drinks, because the food is so so.

  5. Even though I live in the neighborhood, I've never been here, and now I know why!

We stopped by on a Saturday evening and happened to catch the tail end of their weekend happy hour from 4-7PM. It was a nice surprise but other than that, there is nothing particularly appealing about this place. The happy hour menu is decent if you are trying to start the night early, but food wise it is mediocre.

I got a chicken taco and a carne asada taco, and also tried a bit of my friend's blood orange frozen margarita. He got a chicken quesadilla.

The carne asada taco was much tastier than the chicken taco, which was dry and would have been really bland if I hadn't squeezed lime juice all over it. They use the exact same chicken for my friend's quesadilla as well…which really looked more like a chicken taco with cheese than a quesadilla.. Just an FYI in case anyone is planning on ordering it! Plus, the portions were tiny. Even with the happy hour pricing, I don't think we really got a good deal.

The margarita was yummy and poured with a heavy hand; I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was out for the night! That being said, the entire atmosphere at Vamos! is less of a restaurant and more of a bar/venue, so keep that in mind if you are planning on dropping by!

  6. Very casual ambiance.  Decent prices and good happy hour specials.  Food was just OK.

The problem is that nobody seems to really do Mexican very well in this city.  You have to find some hole in the wall to get a decent taco.  I ordered the enchiladas and they were just like anything you will find at any other Mexican restaurant in this city.  Flour tortilla wrapped meat with beans and rice, topped with some sauce and cheese.

You won't find great Mexican food here, but this is a reliable place to get a table for your buddies and enjoy some good happy hour drink specials with some small plates (guacamole was good and reasonably priced).

  7. was here for brunch with about 8 friends. they have a pretty solid deal: 5 frozen margs or sangria +entree for about 30 bucks (tried to capture the size of the drinks below). The mushroom quesadillas I got were delicious, and came with guac and pickled onions on top (which is cool considering some places will charge you more for that). Seems like this is generally a bustling place during brunch hours (they even had a dj going), so if youre trying to have a quiet weekend morning meal this might be something to consider. For our group, though, this place was definitely what we were looking for. Will definitely stop in during weekday dinner hours to grab some tacos and see what its like then.

  8. Love this place for happy hour frozen margaritas and $5 tacos! I swing by here every once in awhile after work and sit at the bar. I've gotten free tequila shots here on multiple occasions if you're in the mood for that sort of happy hour! The carne asada tacos and guacamole (spicy) are pretty good here! Especially those tacos during happy hour.
