Service: The staff here are very friendly and know the menu rather well. She was able to make recommendations on the rather overwhelmingly extensive menu. The wait as previously mentioned is about an hour long!
Food: There was a consensus on our meal as we shared everything. We ordered the whole snapper rundown with rice and peas and broccoli; shrimp and lobster rasta pasta. Our appetizers were cod fish cakes & fried bammy. We all agreed that the rasta pasta was really good! The snapper was tasty but felt as if it was missing an ingredient. The rice & peas just was lacking in flavor all around. It tasted like unflavored white rice with peas in it (that's a big NO, NO)! The waitress said this is not the norm. So you'll get a pass on this faux pas.
The appetizers came out along with the food….. So I was expecting it to be GREAT. I was not a fan of the cod fish cakes, it was too doughy. We also did not like the bammy. I don't have any previous experience with bammy so I had nothing to go on but my friend said it was not the authentic Jamaican bammy she's accustomed to eating.
Word of Caution: This part was down right highway robbery! How can an establishment in GOOD conscious charge $5 for a cup of soda/ ice tea and it NOT come with free refills? I was in a state of shock to be charged $20 for 4 nonalcoholic beverages. SERIOUSLY!!! That's just not acceptable by any stretch of the imagination, I felt cheated and over charged. This should be told to the customer immediately.
After seeing my bill, I seriously had to reconsider coming back to this establishment and it changed my rating.
This place it's blah. I gave it three stars because the service was pretty good when I went.
My visit: I first ordered a salad and it was bad and weird it had extra things that weren't in the menu. So I sent it back (which I hate to do) I ordered a grilled cheese because who can mess that up. Hmm they can it was a buttery greasy mess.
Tip: go for the service.
The service here is very slow, it's to the point where you have to track down the wait staff, however the staff is very friendly. The features breakfast and Caribbean food I've tried breakfast and the jerk chicken it was pretty decent, the products seemed fresh! Food to the table takes a lil bit longer then usual, overall the place is a decent place for some quick comfort food … On the other downside I asked for water 10x's and still never received it! Took forever
Really old school diner with a serious need of a renovation. The inside is outdated with a capital O.
I sat at the counter and was taken care of right away. The service and food were good. No issues.
I'd be back if I'm in the area.
Country Kitchen makes the grade in my book.
Went there on a Saturday morning with my daughter and sister. Upon entering we were seated immediately and considering the restaurant is nestled in a shopping center I found that surprising, but I was happy we didn't have to wait.
Our waitress came over immediately and was very friendly as she took our drink orders. After perusing the menu we placed our orders….I had the eggs and bacon with homefries and toast, my sister had the corn beef hash skillet and my daughter had a bowl of grits with cheese and bacon. I also order a side of sausage for the table (just so I could taste it). Everything was very good – our plates were plentiful, nothing was greasy (neither the bacon or sausage). My sister said the corn beef hash was cooked very well (I don't care for it so I didn't taste it). Overall we were very pleased.
I will definitely go back to sample some other offerings from this restaurant and would recommend that others try it also.
When I came here for breakfast I was expecting the menu to be geared towards Caribbean cuisine, but to my surprise the menu resembled a (and I mean this as a BIG compliment) "glorified" diner menu with Caribbean specialties on the back. The breakfast menu consisted of the usual suspects — pancakes, french toasts, country style foods (eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, bacon, country fried steak), skillets and omelettes. Some of the front of the menu reminded me of Cracker Barrel and some of it reminded me of typical brunch restaurants. As for the rest of the menu towards the back, you'll find Caribbean and specifically Jamaican specials! My friend ended up ordering the Akee and Saltfish Jamaican special, while I ordered the Stew Chicken.
Here's my thoughts on both:
Akee and Saltfish – I only had a few bites of it, but the salt cod mixed with the eggs wasn't bad. Obviously, the fish was a bit salty. My friend did not agree with its flavoring though and felt it wasn't the typical Akee and Saltfish fare she was used to. The dish also had 2 big "dumplings" and a fried banana on the side, but I didn't get to try either.
Stew Chicken – The portion size was very reasonable as the dish came with 5-6 bite size pieces of chicken on bones (doused in sauce), rice and beans, 2 sweet plantains and mixed vegetables. The stew chicken was sweet and the meat was very tender. The rice and beans weren't that attractive and it was just ok, but I still devoured it. Unfortunately, the mixed veggies were from a frozen pack (because the waiter told us), but it was what it was, it still tasted ok. He could've lied to us and said it was fresh veggies and I might've actually believed him!
Just a note for those interested, the restaurant also had a few large flat screen TVs tuned into ESPN. Plus on that!
