  1. Very small, family run diner in a tiny little strip mall. If you don't know it's there you would easily drive past it. The parking lot is small, maybe 6 cars can fit.
Service was excellent and fast. My friend and I both had wraps that were delicious. Others around us had salads which looked awesome.
If you're in the area this is a great place to stop.

  2. I just moved to this location and stumbled upon this great place. This is place is as good as it gets, its a tiny little gem of a mom and pop store, employing even their son, cooking fresh, clean, simple food for a good price. I was immediately welcomed by the mother, who sat me and treated me like her own child. It was extremely welcoming.

The menu is massive, and divided into Greek food and your standard American diner fare. I decided on the Greek Salad dinner with grilled steak for about $12. The meal came with soup. The food was great, like I said before, simple & clean. The portions are huge. There wasn't one thing off about my meal, I ate a home cooked meal and felt taken care of.

I will be coming here regularly, watch out! The one caveat of this place is the limited parking which can be a little dicey.

  3. My family gets takeout from Evan's all the time, its a neighborhood favorite that can always be counted on to deliver good quality food at a great price point.

My standby is the grilled pork kabobs, all the Greek dishes are great. The meat is well marinated and charcoal grilled. They serve all the diner classics and most things are made in house. The soups are delicious and an great sandwich accompaniment.

This place has a great mom-and-pop vibe, which I find charming. The decor at the restaurant is nothing to write home about, but the owners are friendly and often found behind the counter and its always populated by the locals.

Evan's has solid diner standards and tasty Greek specialties delivered in a no frills environment at a great price.

  4. Great food! I just moved back to the area and this is so close to my house and so great.

Their gyro platter is delicious and a very large portion.

The Greek salad with grilled chicken is also delicious!

Everything has a lot of flavor and tastes home made.

I love it here! Can't wait to order again.

  5. Evans Restaurant is a small place in a small strip of stores.  Very basic, and with nice prints of Greek islands on the wall.  Bathroom was clean and our server was super-nice.  Evans EASILY had the best gyro that I've had in a long time, and their salads were good too.  The only thing I didn't like was that there was a big stack of  empty cardboard boxes, inside, right next to our table, and some said "Big-C onion rings" or "Big-C chicken tenders".  Now, perhaps Big-C makes a good product ( we didn't eat those items), bit I wouldn't flaunt the package-goods source of those items, if I were the owner.  Having said that, the gyros were The Bomb, and I can't wait to go back for more.  Highly recommended.

  6. Come and get your Greek here, Opa!

Once again good ole Yelp to the rescue. Same old success story, in need of chow, but wanting more then a quick fix and not completely familiar with the surroundings. Strangely enough I've driven by this little more of a dinerish establishment in the corner of a very small out side strip of 4 stores with next to no parking ( in fact the lack of parking and dim location had been why I've been reluctant to pop in). Glad I read some positive Yelp reviews.

I'm a gyro junkie and for me it has to be lamb and or a combo there of. Some frown at the slowly spinning weirdly shaven slices of lamb or lamb & beef.  I dream of those comforting carnivore-istic flavors (I'm a meat kinda guy) with lettuce, tomatoes, onions all splattered heavily with tzaziki and several dashes of hot sauce in a warm soft pita. Hmm hmm comfort food at it's best, always fun & satisfying. You must eat with your hands and expect to make a mess.

Their gyros $11 with fries or rice includes soup and salad. We tried all 4 starting with lamb/beef, pork, chicken & beef chunks were all amazing. Perfectly tender seasoned just right leaving your tongue dancing for more. They have a a super combo $17 which is all of the above in a make your own display. Trust me when I tell you it will feed 2 or more easily. Of course we had a Greek salad which was perfectly concocted with all the fresh ingredients you'd expect including very yummy stuffed grape leaves which I'm normally not a big fan, but these rocked.

Not being a raving type of a guy about appetizers, well wouldn't you know that this place has changed that for me. The calamari are seasoned and grilled or deep fried. The chunks were huge in fact the tentacles were so huge that we cut them including the rings into 4's. Unbelievably tender to the bite and yet again fun and satisfying with a magnificent sweet marinara sauce to live for.

Service was great. The place is clean, but cramped only about 12 four tops and a few stools at the counter. The grill literally is in the dining area and the decor is next to nothing if not completely dated. No music. The flat screen controlled by the older gentleman owner is constantly being changed from soccer to news to Espn, so once you start watching something then bam he changes stations like the weather, lol.

It appeared as though they do a tremendous amount of take out as seen by the many comers and goers picking up food to go. Not surprising with the little to no parking as previously stated.

We were pleasantly surprised and look forward to visiting again and again.

  7. When in doubt, yelp it out. My mom, sister, and I were looking for a different place to order takeout from. Living in Hoboken has spoiled me when it comes to food options so when I'm visiting my parents I feel like I'm always struggling to find something to order that isn't pizza or Chinese- enter Evans. Being the Yelp nerd that I am, I discovered this place and decided to order for delivery. On the phone, It seemed like they don't typically deliver to Hazlet but agreed to based on our order. When the food arrived, The owner's son mentioned to my mom that it is a little far for delivery but if we want to order again, they would gladly do so if we gave them a heads up since it is a small place. Everything we ordered was amazing, especially the gyro and the spanakopita.

It seems like a great family owned place that genuinely cares about gaining new customers and keeping them satisfied. I'm glad I found this place and will definitely be ordering again. Thanks Yelp for another great find!
