House of Platters

“Will me back for a lamb gyro and the rice I've been reading about!”

“The service is also very friendly and to my surprise this plan is actually Afghani and if you have not tried Afghan rice then you are missing out.”

“The comparison with Juicy Platters in Fair Lawn, or the iconic Halal Guys carts in NYC, is inescapable.”

  1. Chicken and lamb platter was delicious.  Chicken was tender and the lamb (which at most platter carts is thinly sliced overcooked gyro) was small cubes which was a nice change as the lamb was soft and juicy.

Rice was also atypical as it was a flavorful basmati (almost Indian in flavor) vs the yellow rice you get at a cart.

White sauce was tasty and the red was a sweet heat typical of a Greek cart and not the hot red of a Halal cart. Both were good although (like others) I would have preferred a hotter red.

Daughter said her chicken gyro was good however it was leaking everywhere with grease. She actually threw away 1/4 of her pita due to soggy grease soak through. Gyro came with fries which were tasty.

Place is small with roughly 10 stools facing the window outside and one four seater table. And aside from one take out order we were the only people there in the early 2pm time frame.

Daughter took a menu for delivery (they have a few mile radius including Willy P).

Next time I'm in the area I'll be back; this was yummy!

  2. Excellent halal platters like the kind you find on the streets of NYC only better.

I had the combination lamb and chicken platter, the lamb gyro was very tasty, and the chicken was as well, the rice was a delicious long grain and had more of a curry tasting spice which was unexpected but if you like cuisine bordering on an almost  Indian flavor, you'll love it, if your taste runs bland, you may want to ask for extra dalad, maybe fries as a substitute  (ask for price difference), the included salad was fresh and made to order.

I deducted one star for the simple menu where I would have loved to see a shish kebab option for fresh lamb and larger chicken chunks, maybe beef; but small menus mean fresher dishes.

The staff at night was great too, great employees.

    I'd definitely return!

  3. oh my PLATTERS. Just- go here. I really don't need to say anything else. If you're not sure what I mean: the food is absolutely OUTRAGIOUSLY delicious. Just go…. Just go now… right now, navigate to the directions on this yelp… now. You'll thank me later.

  4. House of platters:
So in my late teens friends and i would drive in NYC to get the Halal guys on 53rd and 6th. Now im my early to mid 20's im old, washed up, lazy, but im a genius for stopping here.

Ive been to this place a few times and they are consistently awesome. I go with the lamb and chicken platter every time. The meat is always cooked right, not dried out or over seasoned, and they use long grain rice which is just delicious. On top of all this its 10$ to eat.

I also recently got the bowl of hummus and it was delicious. A little kick but not over the top and very very creamy. Definitely worth it to buy and big enough to take home.

This place is actually in an area where i tend to frequent due to my favorite place to drink being down the block.

Definitely worth it to stop here

  5. Gotta say, this place is great! You want a quick, delicious, decently priced gyro? You got it!

I liked how most of the street parking was taken up,but right in front of HoP it was empty, probably due to 15 min parking restrictions. There are a couple tables, but it's not very big so I imagine a lot of people (like me) get it to go, so you only need 15 minutes.

I got a big taste lamb and chicken gyro that comes with fries. It was a really filling meal, made quickly, and the staff was very friendly. No cons to the experience. If this is the kind of food you like, this is a must try!

  6. Ordered from here last night while visiting my friends new house and her knowing how much I love juicy platters she suggested we order from here for dinner. We decided on ordering up some appetizers and a few different platters.

We ordered onion rings and fries, my boyfriend and I decided on ordering the chicken and gyro combo platter and so did our friend, his wife ordered the falafel platter. All the platters are served with long grain rice and a salad that you can opt out of if you'd like. The rice was different from what I'm normally used to along with the way the meat was cut into little cubes instead of the shaved meat.

I found that the falafel was just as good as juicy platters where I normally get my falafel fix from. In fact I think it was the exact same thing, which I was really happy about. The meat was really flavorful but I preferred the gyro meat over the chicken. The onion rings were delicious and had a nice crunch to them along with the fries.

They are not stingy with their white sauce or hot sauce which is really nice. Some other places don't like to give you extra without a charge.

I look forward to coming back to their house and ordering from here on a regular basis.

  7. House of Platters is HANDS DOWN the BEST CHICKEN AND LAMB combo spot in North NJ! Parking sucks and you have to drive in town , but this place trumps Juicy Platters! House of Platters is my new go to spot for chicken and lamb platters. Not to mention every platter comes with free can soda or bottle water! You've won me over!

I made my way over here last Friday after a chill cigar night with the fellas! While driving thru Paterson I second guessed if I should go… Boy am I glad I kept rolling thru the hood!

    What to get:
    – Chicken and Lamb combo with everything. What's everything? Meat, rice, salad, pita and olives. OMG heavenly!
    – Chicken and Lamb was phenomenal. Season wonderfully, every bite was a mouth orgy that kept ya coming back for more! I honestly think their meat is seasoned better than Halal Guys in NYC… Need to do further testing.
    – Rice is amazingly seasoned like the meat.
    – White is good, but not great. Halal guys takes the win here, but House of Platter still rocks out as the meat and rice is cooked and seasoned to perfection platter wise!
    – Wings! Get em and mix and match your sauce. I had hot, honey BBQ and it was amazing. You can go mild if spicy isn't your thing.

I can continue to write how dope this place is, but I must stop as I'm getting hungry and wanting a platter right now! Def check this place out and see who you prefer. Enjoy folks and see you there!

  8. I came and ate lunch a couple weeks ago. I was the only customer.

The food is as greasy as juicy platter. Every entree comes with a free drink. I think only canned beverages applies.

I can't compare this place to Juicy platters yet because I wasn't drunk when I dined here for lunch.

This place does add a fast stick to your ribs meals that's not a franchise or pizza,

I'd come back if I was around the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here.
