3.5 stars. If I was reviewing the food alone at this place I would give it 3 stars, but the ambiance is awesome and seems like it would be a great place to go for drinks with friends.
I came here for dinner last night with my boyfriend and we ordered mussels, a margherita pizza, and penne with vodka sauce. The food was average at best. I like how they bring you some hummus with chips before the meal. That was a nice touch, but the food went downhill after that.
First, the mussels we ordered were supposed to come in a "white wine and garlic sauce". There was only one type of mussels on the menu so I don't know what happened, but they ended up coming in a reddish gumbo type sauce that neither of us liked. The pizza was a lot smaller than we were expecting and it wasn't very flavorful. I liked the penne with vodka sauce, but again it was a pretty small portion. We ate everything and weren't full at all.
They do have some pretty creative drink options. We both got the cucumber Moscow mule and it was so light and refreshing! It was definitely the best mule I ever had and I would order it again next time.
So we got those three food items, 2 mules, and 1 glass of wine and our bill was $67 before tip. It just seemed really over priced and not worth it.
However, the atmosphere might make me go back. It's very clean, trendy and has a nice layout. I liked the look of the bar area. Then they have a ton of space for tables to dine at in 3 different rooms, but the best part is the outdoor area. They have some tables to eat at outside (which we did), some other picnic tables and then an area covered in AstroTurf with rows of corn hole games set up. I think that was such a great idea for a bar! Lots of people drank and played the games and it was fun to watch while we ate. They played some good 60s and 70s music too. I want to know which pandora station that was because I loved every song.
Anyway, I would suggest coming here for drinks and games with friends and skip the meal unless you don't want to eat a lot, don't care too much about the taste, and don't mind spending a lot of money.
Very happy to see a new restaurant open in Pompton Plains especially because I live close by. The place was very pretty inside and the bathroom was nice and clean.
My cosmo ($11) was well made and the bartenders were very friendly. I ordered the tavern burger ($14) which was very good. The portion was just right and the burger was juicy and the Chipotle sauce just spicy enough.
I did see other dinner orders come out and they did look on the small side so I'm not sure I would come here if I were super hungry. .but overall it was a pleasant dining experience.
NOICE!!!! Clean, cozy, tasty, reasonable, and CLOSE!! I was digging the decor (amber retro incandescent lighting instead of cold white LEDs),4K tv's, super super friendly staff, and solid food. Owners clearly spared no expense for us to enjoy a wicked cool place for years to come.
We thought the prices were on point with some variety depending on your needs/wants, from a respectable orecchiette broccoli rabe with sausage for 14 dollars or hit up a little fresh seafood food at $22 scallops. Our apps, entrees (see the pics), drinks, service, and even the parking were perfect……We will be back ASAP!!
Finally came here for HH and possibly dinner.. The possibly of dinner become a reality…. More on that in a few. First, it's a very well put together, small bar for approximately 14 people, so you get a very intimate feeling. Brand new granite bar, very comfy chairs and a few TVs surround the bar. The back bar is very well put together, and I assume, but didn't ask, but I guess their house Vodka is SKYY, as 15 or so bottles lit up the back bar.. The blue of the bottles made it stand out very nicely. The bartenders are very friendly, but overly friendly at times. It can also get pretty loud, so be prepared for that. The bartenders asked us if we've been there before, and we said no, and they handed us their drink menu's. We decided on Alagash White drafts to start. Very refreshing and tasted very yummy on such a hot day. The bartenders also made small talk with us. Like I said, very friendly. My wife then switched to Cosmo's and, I have to say as a former tender of the bar for quite a few years, they were very good and had the perfect combo of color (pink) and taste (not over powered by Lime and/or Triple Sec) – Probably the best Cosmo I've tasted around these parts.
We watched a few food items be brought out, so we decided to take in dinner. They have a very small menu, but don't let that fool you. They have a very good selection for having such a limited menu. I also read the stories of the potions being small, and I did see that first hand. Very pricey for the amount of food IMHO. So, after some discussion, we ordered. My wife the Tavern 5 burger, with fries, and I the steak tacos. The burger and fries were good to go!!! My tacos…. well, for 16 bucks, I got 3 tacos, and they were VERY good! Chock full of yumminess in every bite! But… no side came with them 🙁 Disappointing. A side order of fries were 6, and sweet tater fries were 5. So, 3 Taco's and a side was North of 20 bucks.. A tad steep for me and we all know fries aren't that much. But I really think to finish off the dish of taco's, maybe a side or two of mexican rice and/or refried beans – you know, something Mexican to go with the yummy Taco's 🙂
Bottom line, great ambiance, very outgoing bartenders, VERY loud atmosphere, and you may leave hungry after your meal – and not feel as if you got bang for your buck. I am not sure if they have HH specials on drinks, as the beers were 6 per, and my wife's Cosmo were 11 per (with Absolute, so I guess the well Vodka may run you a buck or two cheaper). A tad high on those prices as well – but they are on par with the other establishments in the area. I would also have liked to get a drink on the house after buying 4 drafts and 2 Cosmo's. Maybe one day after we have our faces recognized as a regulars. You do call your estabilishment a "Neighborhood Restaurant", so by your neighbor a drink 🙂
Strong 3.5++ Stars (and I rounded up) for this new, and highly anticipated establishment. I was also told they have plans to have the back area, which contains a few sets of cornhole boards, to have more options. It's pretty cool to be able to grab a drink at the bar, and go outside and toss some bean bags back and forth. Nothing like that in the area. They also have live entertainment on Sat nights, starting at 9… Get there early if you want a seat at the bar!!! I think with a few changes, this place will be a 4+ Star establishment.
