  1. Reading the pair of reviews on this White Castle location reminded me of one absolute fact in this world – haters wanna hate.  There's nothing you can do about haters.  You just have to deal with it and move on.

In my mind, White Castle is the perfect food.  As such, when I review a White Castle, I am reviewing the variance between the food and service at this location and the food and service of the average White Castle.  That said, this place stacks up just fine.  The service is prompt, my order is always accurately filled, and if I smile at them, they smile right back.

The food… well, White Castle is what it is.  Small burgers cooked on top of onions and served with ketchup from a wall-mounted squirt gun and a deftly applied pickle.  If you don't want that, this isn't your place.  Actually, I won't get ahead of myself.  If you also don't want chicken rings, very adequate mozzarella sticks, and crinkle-cut fries, then and only then is Castle not your place.

For me, this is my place.  And the Elizabeth place is as good as the rest.

  2. I'm a fan of these lil sliders.  If you've never been to a WC it's like fast food but in a snack size version.  Eat enough of them or a plethora of their other items and you have a meal.  If you think it's healthy…….Hell to the no!  Lots of diversity now in their menu.  Check out my pic's if you want.

The lil sliders were made well to their best potential.  I ordered half of mine with jalapeño.  The jalapeño was built into a white cheese which was just ok.  The original ones were better with their regular cheese.  Their onion rings were delicious as always.

The staff was professional and friendly.  The restaurant was clean.  The burgers come in party packs also of 30 or 100 in one big sturdy box.

They now have vegetarian sliders and chicken sliders.  They serve a Belgium slider with a sausage patty and creamy country gravy between two fluffy Belgium waffles all day long.  Actually now you can get anything all day long.

  3. If you're a food snob or can't appreciate some of the cheaper and not-fancy things in life, then you've already dismissed White Castles.  Me however?  I have very fond memories of White Castles from my childhood.  We had a big one in Elmhurst, Queens New York and I would remember my dad bringing home the sliders and fries and us nomming on them as we discussed his day (as much as a 7 year old can discuss it anyhow).

Since then, I've always enjoyed White Castles food.  It's not good for you, it's not the best burger in the world, but it is comforting and really, really good drunk food post-partying!  Among my favorites are the basic White Castle, the chicken rings and their fries (but they have to be eaten fresh, they're gross after they get cold).

This White Castles was already here when I moved to Elizabeth, but it had not yet been renovated.  The interior was like something out of the 80's and by that I mean older tile, seats with obvious damage and so on.  Since then however it has been renovated to the current standard with brighter colors, different layout in seating (giving the appearance of a more spacious interior) and new wallpaper.  The staff keeps the place clean too.  During Holidays, they'll use the containers for the burgers to build decorations like a Christmas tree which I found charming.

I've always found the service at this branch good to excellent.  I've never waited longer than 10 minutes for my food and the staff is very friendly with everyone who comes in.

Pre-renovation I would have probably given this three stars, but post renovation I have to give them high marks for trying to keep the place fresh.  Also kudos for keeping the parking lot clean and in good shape.

  4. A dirt cheap guilty pleasure with quick service. How could I complain?

  5. This was my first White Castle experience so we got sliders & fries and one order of mozzarella sticks because I just have to. This place was a ways out, but totally worth it because there was no one in there. The guy who took our order was extremely helpful and nice, bathrooms were clean, and the food was yummy. It was pretty cool, but I am not sure about all of the hype. I would come by again, but only if one were on my way.
