Your typical college bar- they even have beer pong on the second floor! They have great drink specials, every day of the week there is a good deal. Having been to one or two of their other establishments, I wasn't disappointed. Half priced Wednesday's means $4 drinks and shots! It's a good place to get a drink and catch up with friends. The drinks are good but the bar itself is OK. Nothing too special, but good for a regular night out.
Classic NYC bar that caters to the youth. This is more of a college bar so its definitely not my scene. The drinks are super cheap so it ends up being super crowded. Its not a bad place but under no circumstance would I plan to come here. I landed here on St. Patty's day bar hopping, prior to that I haven't been here in years. They have beer pong downstairs which is fun IF you can actually get anywhere near the table. I have never been here and seen the table available. Upstairs you'll find people dancing and hanging out. Overall depending on your scene this can be fun, its definitely not a bad place but not the place for me. Im not opposed to passing by for a drink or shot during the week if Im in the area!
I have always loved off the wagon. I have stopped in a handful of times since turning 21 way back when.
Age range is typically early 20's to mid 30's.
To me, it's not the best location to start your night but it's a pretty great place to end your night.
Decent amount of parking in the area, my friends and I rarely have trouble with finding a spot.
They sell pitchers of beer. Have quite a few TVs to watch games on.
On the weekend this place get PACKED. But even though it gets packed, the service is always great. Bartenders are quick to serve and have always been nice throughout the years.
I also like the water pong set ups they have, it's pretty fun.
They also have two floors. So if your not into mingling with the crowd on the first floor, there is more room for you to move around on the 2nd floor.
Bathrooms can be a little bit cleaner but they are not completely unbearable.
Overall, it's always good times and good vibes.
Frankly, I don't understand how I could have not reviewed this place yet. Off the Wagon is, quite easily, my home bar when it comes to the West Side. Located on a street that is packed with bars, Off the Wagon stands out of the crowd with the amazing service that the bartenders give. The bar is also separated into two separate floors, with people dancing wherever they please. On the first floor there is seating in booths and full length bar that is manned by at least 3 bartenders. On the second floor they have beer pong tables and a balcony that overlooks the first floor. Thankfully Off the Wagon's second floor is equipped with a smaller two man bar. I'm sure this results in a lot more alcohol in my system and a lot less on their stairs.
As stated earlier, what makes Off the Wagon stand out from the numerous other bars on MacDougal, are the excellent bartenders. Nick and Manny are usually the two bartenders that I try to gravitate to. Their mannerisms and speed in making quality drinks are unparalleled. More often than not, I trust them to make me whatever concoctions that they want to test. I don't mind being a guinea pig as long as it involves alcohol and good times.
Whenever I end up here through my drunken hazy nights with my friends my potential for blacking out increases. As a final note, if you ever find yourself in need of a good time and a stiff drink, meet the bartenders at Off the Wagon and prepare yourself for a fun night.
I can't say the place in entirely clean – but it is a great dive bar that I enjoy going too!!! It is super cheap and super fun! They have two levels so great for groups and entertain beer pong upstairs!
Came here on a Monday night with a few friends looking for a lively place to drink. We had tried a few places already that were pretty dead, but we saw that this place had a great deal on pitchers on Monday nights (can't remember the exact price but definitely under $10 each). The place is really laid back and has a very college-y vibe since its right near NYU. Overall I wouldn't really come here with any intention other than getting a good buzz off of some inexpensive drinks, but definitely cool that they're open late and have some good specials. Also they're right next door to Artichoke Basille's which is a huuuge plus and a great place to go for drunchies!
Came here after a comedy show on a Friday night. The bouncer was doing his job and being a good greeter, not your typical asshole you usually run into and there are a ton of them in the city.
Despite this, I wasn't too impressed with this place. They have a nice balcony to look over the first floor, a few beer pong tables, and a ton of TV screen to watch sports. Nothing impressive stood out to me.
I believe they had some drink specials or happy hour going on. $3.50 for some of the basic mixed drinks? I'm getting 5. This is only thing that will pretty much get me to come back.
Cool college bar! Cool bouncers, cool crowd, cheap drinks, beer pong…. Not my scene anymore, but it is a great place for a young crowd. It did kinda smell, but I honestly can't complain.
