  1. Lazy Hot Sunday afternoon after shopping extravaganza with girlfriends we end up at Avenue for cocktails. Very relaxing ambiance the waitress didn't bother us and let us enjoy ourselves. We end up ordering another bottle of Pino Grigio and stayed longer then expected. We will probably go back!

  2. I had never been to Astoria and a friend of mine familiar with the area recommended this spot to start the night. Very nice place in terms ambiance. Inside it's lit like a fancy lounge and they have plenty of outdoor seating. Staff was nice and attentive. My friend suggested the Avenue Club, which was great. The fries seem like they are freshly cut and made and go great with their chipotle sauce. I figured I might as well order the Avenue X cocktail while I'm at it, continuing my trend of ordering items on the menu named after the establishment. Wasn't too big a fan of it, too sweet for my taste. Luckily, I was able to wash it down with shot of Ouzo and Avenue water after that.

  3. Since I moved out of Astoria a few years ago, I don't get back up nearly as often as I used to. However, my uncle and I got dinner together two weeks ago and stopped in here. I don't recall this restaurant being here before so I think it's fairly new?

I ordered the Parma ($12) sandwich on Koulouri bread with a salad. First, I appreciate any restaurant that does not force French fries on me. The Greek salad was delicious and really quite large for being a side. The Parma sandwich was prosciutto, mozzarella, and roasted red peppers.  The Koulouri bread is super thick and between half of a sandwich and the salad, I was full. I really love bread, but if you aren't a massive carb eater, the sandwich might be too bread-y for you. I liked it, though!  My uncle said his steak sandwich was pretty standard, but he really liked the fries.

The ambiance is kind of upscale, neighborhood bar. There were a ton of babies and small children, and the atmosphere is very loud.

While I enjoyed my meal, Avenue Cafe has some fierce competition in the neighborhood. I didn't feel like my meal was something truly special, but it was definitely an A-OK dinner!

  4. Have only been here for drinks and tried their watermelon, feta and mint salad which is pretty hard to mess up, amiright?  Service at the bar is pleasant and somewhat attentive, although, at times we had to get the bartender's attention to order another drink.

I know they've been in business for awhile but that's no excuse for the condition of the décor inside the restaurant.  While I'm sure having white leather chairs is not conducive or ideal as far as upkeep is concerned, it simply looks and feels grimy and unappealing.  If the management/owner(s) don't take pride in maintaining the look/feel of the place, then it makes me wonder what else is lacking care and attention, hmm.

Note for management: I understand for one reason or another of wanting to keep all of the window panels open but when it's 90 degrees outside and there's no air inside the restaurant, sitting at the bar/tables in leather chairs is sweaty and uncomfortable.  If folks choose to sit outside in the heat, that's their prerogative but don't make the rest of us that sit inside pay the price.

  5. Having eaten here for brunch this past Sunday, I think we went wrong with actual breakfast items. Everyone else seemed to be ordering mainly coffee, drinks and salads.

The sausage had an odd taste that we couldn't place. The steak and eggs consisted of flank steak, which was tough and under-seasoned, so we sent it back. I asked for my eggs scrambled hard. In my mind, that meant no runny bits; in the chef's mind, it meant burned bits and lots of crust. A dish that came with bacon only came with two strips, and most of the fat wasn't rendered.

The server was nice, but not that attentive. The chairs look like they've seen better days. I bet this place looks stunning at night, though.

On the plus side, we enjoyed the coffee frappe, waffles and potatoes.

  6. I wasn't a fan of this place. The sangria I ordered was good though. Strong and had a nice flavor.

I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich on chiabatta bread. The chicken was overcooked, the sandwich was dry. The ratio of bread to everything else was too much. I had to trim the bread off. It came with Swiss cheese, lettuce & tomato, but no type of sauce. Too dry & the bread was hard. It also came with a side of fries, I didn't know that because the menu didn't specify so I wasn't able to ask if there were other options. The fries weren't crispy. They were limp and soggy.

Our waitress came to check on us when we first started eating but then never returned to ask if we wanted another drink. Our glasses of water were replenished often by a busboy.

The outside seating is nice except for the fact that ppl choose to smoke their cigarettes way too close to where everyone else is dining. There should be some type of rule about that.

  7. Came for breakfast and ordered the blueberry pancakes and green tea.. The pancakes were made fresh on the spot which I can appreciate.. The service was a bit slow that day but it wasn't an issue since I was not in a rush

  8. I've been here quite a few times. It's in a great place and high traffic area. Astoria in the summer is always fun so try to grab a table outside and hang out with your friends.

Awesome place to people watch and enjoy the evening breeze. It's open until late so if you'd rather be at a cafe than a bar, this is a nice place to do that.

I find this place to be so so. Astoria is known for its cafes so my friends usually choose a cafe or another to go to when wanting to hang out. The food is ok. The drinks are not the greatest. Probably better off getting coffee from here than any alcoholic drinks. The music inside is too loud so def choose to stay outside.

Worth checking out if you've never been or if you want to have a nice coffee/dessert as you sit outside!
