3.5 stars. This tiny place can hardly be called a restaurant. There's a table by the window and some bar stools. This place is different from other arepa places like Caracas because these are Colombian arepas. I definitely recommend the arepas mixta which comes with different types of meats such as tuna fish, chicken, shrimp, chicharron and beef. The menu is limited and when I went to pay, the man charged me $10 for my arepa. I pointed at the menu which said $8 and he said he thought I got a drink and they just said it was an old menu and the prices have increased. Hmmm ok I can deal with that. My two friends both ordered a cheese arepa which was forgettable, just some cheese, not much flavor, the sauce was ok. The cheese arepa was $6 so my friend who also got a drink was charged $8 as well as my other friend who only got an cheese arepa. I pointed this out to the cashier and we was completely confused and actually tried to give us too much money back afterward. I guess they aren't used to non-Hispanics at this joint.
So just a few things, there are no bathrooms and I spoke to the man in Spanish, so it would definitely be useful if you speak some Spanish. Towards the end a really nice woman was there who spoke English. I would definitely come back only for the arepa mixta because it's filling and the chicharron was great, but I wouldn't order anything else. Oh and the arepa itself was pretty great although on the way out he burned an arepa and was scrapping the burnt parts into the waste basket.
Not the best arepas I've had but definitely not bad for quick food to go. They deliver if you order 3 or more items.
This place is super cute, trinkets and pictures from Colombia, and friendly owners making everything up fresh. OH! So in case you don't know– arepas are thick savory corn cakes filled with cheese, meats or vegetables–like an open faced sandwich. But…They vary depending on who is making them and what country they come from.
I end up ordering the special of the day, arepa atun (tuna) which was a mayo, corn, and onion tuna salad. It was ok, not great, arepas pretty much taste like plain not sweet corn, so probably should have gotten a more flavorful filling like some greasy meat and pork 🙁 Next time. Next time.
However I did enjoy my blackberry (mora) shake. Fresh and refreshing.. Sit at the counter or the 1 table in the front. People are very nice and welcoming, like the other reviews have said, come and practice your Spanish–they are patient.
This is Columbian version of the Arepas. I had the sweet corn arepas with melted mozzarella. delicious! I don't know if I would go back but I'm glad I tried it.
