  1. This is my dinner joint when I'm feeling broke and can't afford delivery food. You can get a full meal under $10 here.

This restaurant is something between a deli and a diner. The workers and many of the customers are Spanish speakers. There are a several small tables in there if you want to dine in, but it's cramped and the place smells funny most of the time.

It's easy to walk by this small restaurant, but you'll find it if you look up for the rusted metro coffee sign attached vertically to building or look for colorful, neon signs of "Restaurant" and "Coffee" on the window.

Their variety of omelette, sandwiches, and wraps are all good. Their Italian or Greek specials would be more risky. Their pastrami sandwich is solid and always satisfies my craving for red meat.

  2. Tiny little spot with an excellent menu for diners on a budget. Staff is expedient and super friendly. They've got a little bit of everything you'd expect from a small diner. Coffee's hot all day too.

  3. Metro Coffee is located just south of the Steinway R/M station and 34th Avenue. It appears to be a basic deli catering to commuters and they're super speedy service keeps us coming. I typically order the sausage egg and cheese roll and a small coffee for $3.20. They're fast, tasty, affordable, and really nice people.

I should stop in during lunch or dinner and see what else they carry, but breakfast is pretty darn good.

  4. Small space, nothing fancy but the food is delicious diner fair and cheap. Had great whole wheat pancakes and veggie omlette.
No upcharge for egg whites which is awesome. Staff was nice and quick.

  5. Great little spot with quick and fresh food. I do some fill in work for a company across the street and always order grilled cheese, fries, breakfast sandwiches – you name it and they do it….and quick. I have never had any issues with anything being wrong in our order and the delivery men are quick and friendly. The other day I stopped in for a quick bite to go before taking a ride to New Jersey. A grilled cheese and snapple came out to $4.00 and was ready in like three minutes! You can't beat that!

  6. This is one of the cheapest places to grab decent food in Astoria. They will make you pretty much any thing you ask for to order. Bring cash if you're ordering something small, the minimum for cards is 10 dollars here.

  7. Hole in the wall coffee shop near the Steinway station. I ordered the spinach pie and Greek salad combo for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the portions and quality for $6.95. It comes with a side, but the option is french fries or rice. Wish I could have opted for a veggie. Maybe if I ask next time, they'll let me! It looked like they had a lot of homemade comfort food options. Prompt service. Friendly staff. I'd holler at them again.
