Whitman & Bloom
“I called them, they said it's no problem…and sure enough they accommodated me when I mosey'd on in late during BUSY brunch hours.”
“This is a much-needed lively causal gastropub in Murray Hill – a tad more mature than other joints in the hood.”
“Not too rowdy, low key, décor is lovely.”

I really liked the nice ambiance here. I went early around 11am on a Sunday with reservations. No reservation is needed around this time but most of the table did get seated closer to 12:30-1.
The menu had various selections from savory brunch stuff (french toast was very good with crusty edges and soft middle area, caramelized bananas on top) to salads, omelettes/benedict selections (whitman benedict made me happy-comes with pancetta and spicy cilantro hollandaise sauce, fresh salad and potatoes on the side), to burgers. (The brussel sprouts with bacon flatbread was aite, nothing special. The prices are very reasonable here, especially for NYC. The cocktails were only $12 too. With these reasonable prices, one thing I was very surprised and unhappy about was no refill for regular black coffee. My friend and I got 2more cups of coffee but got charged. Who charges coffee?
Overall, the server was great and so nice. He bubbly personality helped my slow Sunday morning to pick up. I'll be back for brunch and want to try their happy hour & dinner too.
Came here for a work lunch – lovely space. Seems very cute and perfect for a brunch scene. I ordered the bacon wrapped pork belly slides, but overall the portion was very small considering this was an entree. Will try again, maybe for brunch next time.
I came here for drinks on a Saturday afternoon around 4. I loved the atmosphere, servers were friendly, and the happy hour prices were pretty decent ($7 for select wines and $5 for select beers). We sat upstairs at a table, but they had an entire bar along with tables downstairs as well. I've walked by this place a ton of times and they are always packed for brunch, so definitely make reservations if you're planning on coming for a meal.
Came here to grab dinner with a friend. The venue is pretty big. Happy hour is until 8pm for select drinks on the menu. We got 2 specials, the spinach artichoke dip and the mahi mahi with asparagus and risotto. Both were really good. The mahi mahi was cooked to perfection, and flavored really well. Would totally come again.
Who: Varied crowd
What: Nice spot for cocktails. They have about a dozen beers on tap (only $7-$9). All fancy IPAs I didn't recognize. I wasn't a fan of the menu. They have 'small plates' that are too small for a meal, too big for an appetizer and too awkwardly textured to share. Most of the entree items were really random. The food selection of this restaurant reminds of The Smith (another restaurant I do not understand the hype over).
Where: Murray Hill/Kips Bay
When: I came for an early dinner, but their brunch menu looks decent
Why: Friendly staff, great drink selection, low noise level and overall cute restaurant.
Why Not: Nothing special. There are better brunch places, better dinner places and better cocktail places in the area.
Might be a good place for drinks and party, the food was good but not excellent. The appetizers were actually very good but none of the main dishes our group ordered was anything that we thought was great. It wasn't terrible but they weren't well executed neither had good presentations. The best dish was the appetizer gnocchi followed by the fried doughnuts as dessert. Everything else was meh and I wouldn't choose this place to eat again if I find myself in NYC again.
We topped off our last night in New York by meeting family in Whitman and bloom . First off the irish bar man was so nice to us , we had a group of ten so we were straggling in 1's and 2's over the course of an hour so we arranged to meet at the bar , to be honest I would have happily ate at the bar yapping away but we had a table booked anyway. Service was great , everyone was extremely happy with the food options . I got steak and a few others got cheese burgers etc . We lazily drank at the table for about an hour and half after (we had a late reservation so there was no rush for the table) and I happily staggered back to my hotel. Massive thumbs up from me and when I visit New York again I will be having dinner here most definitely again.
We only had small plates and the food was overall good, even though the prices were a little steep. We would have ordered entres but the service was non existence. They had 2 waiters and our came only once in the beginning. There was a long wait to get water, drinks, place order, get check. The other waiter and hostess were just standing around and talking, even after we went to them and asked them for help, they were just like "your waitress will be back".
Pumpkin gnocchi- right texture, the pumpkin taste wasn't too overwhelming.
Spinach artichoke dip- perfect cheese blend with right amount of spinach and artichoke
Fried pickles- first couple of bites were good, then it got very salty.
Pot o mussels- pretty good, packed with flavor. It had the perfect blend of garlic and white wine with bits of chorizo. I wish it came with more bread so that we could have eaten more of the sauce.
Scottish egg- I did not eat it because I am not a big fan of lamb. But everyone said that the lamb was very gamey.
