I love this little tea room in Westwood! The service was friendly, the tea selection fun and the food delicious.
I had a Groupon so I went on a Friday with a few friends (both guys and even they loved it). There were so many vegetarian finger sandwiches (which I was worried about). They had a spinach curry rolled sandwich, which was absolutely delectable. I also loved their beet one. There was a chicken salad one in phyllo that I didn't have but my friends loved. And of course, my favorite is the raisin bread with walnuts and apple.
I had the Darjeerling tea that was strong and warming. I loved the desserts.
The best part was definitely the pumpkin scone that came out fresh and warm. I could have eaten at least ten more of those.
I also tried their apple cheddar soup. It was an apple broth with cheddar accents not the way I expected but it was so good. The broth wasn't overly sweet but just enough.
Will definitely be returning because I love having my afternoon tea especially in my blue Alice in Wonderland style dress with my headband and mary janes on! Next time maybe my friends will finally agree to being my Mad Hatter and Rabbit.
Reservations highly recommended.
Listen peeps you've been warned. The service here is infamous for being terrible with the rudest entourage of staff all thrown into one establishment. So if you can get past that you're solid, but if it bugs you then you may want to explore alternatives.
We had a party of 12 come in for my sisters shower which was great given she didn't want any big fanfare and just a nice, pretty meal with the gals. The staff understood our smaller party and were cool with it because normally parties require 25 individuals. They allowed us to come in about 25 min before our reservation to set up little bits of decor like a banner and table cards. However, they put our party at two separate tables. This made no sense to me because we are celebrating a shower so why would we sit separately. The owner was there and argued with us about how if she consolidated the tables the room wouldn't look good for the other guests. I don't know what she was talking about especially since the place was pretty much empty the whole time we were there and we were making up a huge party. My other sister had asked her a couple of times about moving the tables together and she BLATANTLY IGNORED HER, and then when they finally agreed she essentially shut my sister up by telling her she didn't need her help to move a rather sizable table. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt but this has b*tch written all over it.
I think she tried to redeem herself later by complimenting my shoes but come on we are not idiots; you're too late, lady.
Our meal progressed and was well organized. My mom claimed the waitress was rude and put her in check by speaking again to the manager. That seemed to lift the ugly veil. They didn't give us water and with all the sweets in front of us we could use it. I also felt the food was not amazing. The pastries in particular didn't taste fresh. They were also surprisingly stingy with staples like the lemon curd, clotted cream and jam. For example they put two little dishes of each on the table for a party of 12 which wasn't nearly enough. I asked for more and they brought it out but how ridiculous. Other tea houses would give us that size per person! They did however have a good tea selection.
The funniest bit was that at the end of the party when the groom and my other brother in law arrived the owner approached them asking if they could repair her toilet which seemed to have broken down. After being a total jerk to us she had the nerve to ask us to fix her toilet. Call a plumber!!! I wish my soon to be brother in law wasn't so nice because he took a look at it for her. She should have knocked off a portion of the bill as a result.
I'm excited for more tea spots like this to pop up so that Harmony takes a good long look at their business practices.
Darjeeling tea (yummy!!! Light and fragrant, loved it); green tea sauvingon (very good! I loved the flavor, it had a green tea and very light white wine flavor, definitely enjoyed it, and it was cold too); ice wine tea (omg, soo good!! so refreshing).
Finger sandwiches (these little booger sandwiches were ridiculous, they shouldn't even be called sandwiches honestly; I liked the roll up, which lord even knows what's in it; there were like five or six of them on the plate, I wish they were larger, and actually filling);
Scones (their scones were legit, I loved the cranberry one, the apricot was equally as good; I loved the buttery and flaky texture, so good, and this cream that it came with was sooo good!! there was a jam and a lemon spread but that lemon one was gross).
This place is super cute, it's very quiet and they didn't play any music. I felt like I was going to break everything in there and not good for children. I don't think I would ever go back to this place
All the 3 stars and below ratings for Harmony are for the same reason: bad service. In terms of the teas, they were very good. The decor was cute. Food was a-ok. Nothing out of the ordinary for a tea parlor.
Service is the problem. First, our table wasn't ready during our reservation time. Then we were seated at the wrong table. Then, it took about 45 minutes for my friend's salad to arrive, and when it ended up not being what she requested, she asked them to take it back and fix it. The waiter actually initially REFUSED but she stood her ground, repeating her original order. Five minutes later, the waiter came back and said that they were really backed up with the food, and they don't have the time to fix it – can my friend just take the salad as is?
When she said no he continued to hover. Then we asked for them to just cancel the order. He continued to stand there until we repeated it three times. Finally they canceled her salad but still charged her for her tea.
Yikes. 45 minutes for a SALAD? And then asking the customer to essentially "deal with it" when it was made wrong because "they don't have time" to fix a salad?
I'm so sad that happened, because I really liked everything else.
Lastly, THEIR ADDRESS IS WRONG ON THEIR WEBSITE AND YELP. They're actually located on 224 Fairview Ave. When my friend went to their old location we told the staff that their website has outdated information. We got a blank stare as a "thank you."
Harmony Tea Room used to be my go to with my mom when it was in its prior location in Westwood. I remember great service, a warm welcome from staff, and a great selection of pastries as well as finger sandwiches.
For my soon to be mother-in-law's birthday, my fiance and I decided to take her to Harmony, mostly on my recommendation and because of her love of tea.
I'll start with the positives:
The place itself is still adorable and perfectly decorated. I'm also a sucker for the mismatched china and cute tea themed decor, as well as the decorative fireplaces. It still gives a very homey kind of a vibe.
The tea selection is also great, and the teas are absolutely delicious. My fiance ordered the vanilla bourbon, which was amazing, and I ordered the rainbow rooibos, also amazing. My future mother in law enjoyed her Irish breakfast tea, and my future father in law had an iced tea that he also said was delicious.
The scones are delicious as well – I had an apricot that was lovely, and have yet to find one comparable. The Harmony salad, with goat cheese, is also really nice and a very good size. While the platter of sandwiches is pretty tiny, everything tastes good, so the complaint is not in the taste of anything, but rather, the size.
Now, because a two star review is not without reason:
The service here needs some serious, serious work. Our server wasn't bad, but the place was so incredibly understaffed that the owners were basically setting the two workers up to fail. The place was packed, so it was not possible to give adequate attention to everyone there with only two servers, who were also running food. This led to incredibly long wait times between taking orders, bringing tea, bringing salads, etc. I think at one point we were waiting about 25 minutes for the check to be dropped, just because the servers were so busy with visiting the large parties at other tables. People walked into Harmony and walked out after just standing there with no one to greet or help them. It doesn't lead to the greatest of experiences when you're sitting just waiting for someone to notice you, especially since Harmony is not the cheapest of places.
Again, the portion sizes are pretty small in terms of the finger sandwiches and pastries. The salad helps to even things out, hunger wise, but if I only had a few finger sandwiches to share, I'd be bummed and hungry, no matter how delicious they tasted.
My fiance Anthony also left a review sharing his separate experience where the staff was downright rude to him, which also leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I feel that moving to the new space definitely opened up more room, but more staff should come with that so that the experience could have stayed as good as it used to be. The focus now seems to be fitting as many people as possible in versus an emphasis on good service. While I used to recommend Harmony to many people, I can no longer do this, and would rather look for a new cafe or place with great tea because the slowness of service is just not worth it anymore.
Lovely little tea cafe that serves traditional afternoon/low tea. All the little details were cute. They have teapot coozys so you don't burn your hands! The tea was average. I got the golden monkey and I found it to lack flavor. Their salads were also average.
What I loved was the service and also the sweets were pretty good. The scones came proper with clotted cream, lemon curd, and jam. You were able to chose from a list of 5. The little tea sandwiches were pretty cute too.
I would probably give this place 3.5 stars but since there's no place like them around the area and the prices are very reasonable, I gave it 4 stars. I would definitely come back!
Now that my family lives so close to here, I was looking fwd to trying it. I had the chance the other day. It's a lovely space that brings u right into a British tea time outing. We actually arrived as they were planning to close on nye, but they still let us in, which was super kind. The tea selection is superb and they have soups, finger sandwiches and scones, all delicious. There are various packages to choose from depending on what you want to eat with the tea. The downside is the price. There didn't seem to be an option to just have a cup of tea on its own, I think a pot of tea is the least one can order. With two of us ordering soup and two pots of tea plus a plate of finger sandwiches and a scone, we spent $45 on what we thought would be a cheap mug of tea. It was delicious, but hurt the wallet. I'd go again for a special outing.
The boyfriend sent me to Harmony on a cold, rainy Thursday afternoon as a little surprise to shake up a very boring week. I didn't really know what to expect and so I was pleasantly surprised by this adorable little tea place.
I was seated by the window and given time to go over the menu, and I eventually decided on the soup (apple and pumpkin) and icewine tea set (about $12?). Both came out very quickly. The soup was warm and spiced, perfect for a cold day. For the price, it was a bit lacking in portion size, but I did get a lot of tea to make up for it. The icewine tea was really delicious, too. I got a whole pot to myself and I'd suggest you'd bring someone to share it with, because it's a LOT of tea.
I was still feeling peckish after, so I got a chocolate chip scone which took no time at all to warm up and reach me. Standard scone, nothing extraordinary, but it was enough to fill me up, in addition to all that tea.
Service was very good, but there weren't many customers to take attention away from me. I did overhear the table next to me comment on how the waitress was kinder today than the last time they had come, but since I experienced nothing but patience and kindness, I didn't pay it much mind.
Harmony is a nice place to come with friends for a very calm, relaxing afternoon, maybe for an after-lunch snack. The tea list is extensive and the atmosphere is very cute and girly. Clientele leans on the older side, which is understandable since I don't think many younger women are familiar with or likely to desire traditional afternoon tea.
