I gotta say the food was pretty good here and coming a with a big group had its perks because I was able to try a couple different things and there are a few others on the menu I wouldn't mind trying if I went back. I had the oxtail and to be honest I have had better and for cheaper. It had flavor but no spice and was a bit cold, possibly because we were a big group. Along with all the entrees you get 2 sides and a garden salad. I chose rices and peas a staple at most jamaican spots as a side and creamy mashed potatoes where they did not hold back with the butter which is good I had a bit of the ribs too and that was pretty good, very tender with a nice sauce. I also had some of the mac & cheese which wasn't bad either but again have had better. The presentation, portions and look of the food are all good but I'd like to try another entree and see if it fairs better. The prices seem to be for how much you get over how good it thus far. Definitely good for groups, they did a good job accomodating us and let us pay individually no problem. Another negative is that we sat in the path of the exit so whenever someone came or exited we were hit with a blast of cold air. They should put up something to block that.
I found The Table by sheer luck when I was searching for a party space. For some reason, this restaurant doesn't show up on Yelp search for restaurants in South Orange (at least for me). But after seeing them on Groupon, I decided to give them a try. We went on a weekend where there was a private party going on, but I never felt neglected in terms of service. The wait staff were super attentive and very courteous. They also apologized when our food took longer than expected, which I appreciated!
We tried the cod fritters – well fried and tasty although more doughy in texture than I expected. This was not the "Gordon's Fisherman" type of fritters where you clearly discern fish in every bite. This may be partly due to cod's relatively milder taste, but the fritters were still good and definitely way better tasting then anything you would find in a supermarket.
The main entrees were well seasoned and balanced – not too salty as is usually my concern with this type of cuisine.
The portion sizes were ok provided the full price of the entrees. It's similar to what some of the nicer restaurants in Montclair charge. I would not hesitate to give this place five stars if there were slightly larger portions.
Overall, a nice place. If they didn't have a room charge, I wouldn't hesitate to host a party/event here.
