  1. Amazing food! One of my favorite vegan spots to visit when I go to New York. The owners are really nice and accommodating. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the restaurants I grew up going to as a kid.

Their menu changes, but whatever they serve, you can always expect it to be good. Caribbean food at its finest! Try their fish patties, they're awesome. Much respect!

  2. This place was absolutely wonderful. I have had great vegan Caribbean food in Brooklyn, Harlem, and the Bronx but I will admit to being skeptical about what I might find in New Rochelle but I have to say that the food was SO ON POINT. Everything was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and beautifully served. A lot of Caribbean/Jamaican joints tend to really overcook the veggies so the fact that the Brussels sprouts/carrots/broccoli mixture was perfectly steamed/sauteed was a surprising treat. Also, Brussels sprouts???? I never see those in Caribbean joints. The soup was good, the samosa was good, the cabbage was good, the bbq chicken was good, but my favorite was the ginger chicken, which was totally amazing.

Everyone there was totally amazing. Jolo came out to chat and called someone from the back to sing us a song. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I will definitely be back, even if I need to ride my bike from Brooklyn!

  3. I've been going here for the past 3 years and it's consistently been good. I like that there is a standing menu to order from, but what I like most is seeing what's on the buffet table. Jolo's has a lot gluten-free options. I wish more of their fresh baked desserts were gluten-free, but they have some packaged brownies that are delicious.

The service is always on point. I definitely recommend it to my friends and family.

  4. The only healthy food in the area!

What are my options in this part of New Rochelle? Uhh.. bodega, another bodega, Chinese take-out… I could walk to the restaurants in and around New Roc City, but those seem better suited for dinner with friends. I love AJ's Burgers to death but it's a little far to walk. Chili Dog has delicious food but I'm sure it has a lot of calories.

Jolo's is pretty much the only option around here that I don't feel guilty about eating afterwards. Now don't get me wrong, I love all kinds of food but sitting on my buns for eight hours makes me really reconsider eating extra calories.

Jolo's Kitchen has an assortment of vegan food. Now I'm not even a vegetarian, but I just think their dishes are so flavorful and creative, that the meat isn't even necessary. I love their potatoes, and their ginger chicken, and their rice… Everything tastes just like how my mom would make it, that is, if she went  vegan. Their patties are wonderfully flaky and–dare I say it– BUTTERY! I don't know how they make them taste so buttery without using butter, but Jolo, you must tell me your secret!

The lady at the counter is friendly and helpful for vegan noobs such as myself. She answered all of my questions.

My only complaint: Prices are a little high but portions are big.

Brotip: Got a hankering for something specific? Call in advance and let them know, and they might  be able to make it for you.

  5. Took a trip here for lunch yesterday afternoon! My girlfriend recently became a vegan while I am always open to trying new things. I order the Quinoa Burger & my girlfriend orders the beef stew I believe. All cooked to perfection & you wouldn't even know that none of the food has any real meat. Main dishes are made in the back, fresh veggies & fruit up front. Everything looked fresh & the main dishes looked well prepared. We will definitely be stopping by again! Oh & service was great! I do not think this place is a "waiter service" kind of place but the lady at the counter was still nice enough to bring our drinks to the tables & take away our plates when we were done.
