This restaurant has been open for several months and it's very close to my home so I actually expected that this review would come much sooner. However, there were a few hiccups along the way. 1) I tried to visit the website listed on the awning when they first opened and it wasn't an active site. 2) my brother attempted to visit a few months ago and walked in to find no one available to greet or take an order for atleast 10 minutes before he left and went to the corner bodega to pick up a sandwich instead.
Fast forward to a Friday night in January. Empty fridge, no motivation to cook and a willingness to spend a few dollars. I tried to order from one of the online sites but noticed this wasn't available, so I walked out to order in person. I have noticed over the last few months that a sign is kept outdoors describing the meals available for the day. I went inSide and was immediately greeted by a friendly staff member.
The setup suggests that this is a dine in restaurant, but keep in mind that they don't seem to have a liquor license. It's not quite clear where to order as there is no hostess stand or clear understanding of what to do when you enter. Luckily the staff member was immediately available when I visited.
The food: I ordered a small oxtail dinner. It was reasonably priced and came out quickly. It included rice and peas, plantains, vegetables and oxtails. The rice was pretty light on gravy which is one of my favorite parts of a Jamaican oxtail dinner. The presentation was certainly nicer than other neighborhood Caribbean restaurants however. The flavor of the food was decent and somewhat made up for the lack of gravy.
The location is convenient so I will likely visit again, but I will definitely ask for extra gravy. I probably wouldn't go out of my way if the location wasn't so convenient, but I've only tasted one meal option so far.
