  1. We went to this place few times when they first open at this location few years ago.  It was pretty good then. This weekend I came again with the family to celebrate my daughter's birthday. It was not good!
I had shrimp and lobsters pasta … Do not get it! It was dry and tasteless. Not enough shrimp, not enough lobster on the plate.

  2. I will confess that from time to time I'm suspicious of chain-themed-restaurants near malls.  This bias is largely due to past experience where places like Olive Garden have let me down with the food, service, prices or some combination thereof.  When my girlfriend asked to check out this branch of Bahama Breeze however, I was game as it was near my beloved Wegmans supermarket and it was dinner time.

Bahama Breeze is situated at the edge of the Woodbridge mall's parking lot.  This gives it ample parking space of its own so you shouldn't have a problem finding a spot.  While we went on a cold day, the outside is clearly set up to allow people to wait comfortably near the doorway where I saw two large, straw couches with cushions on them.  Off to the side was an outdoor seating area along the edge of the restaurant.

The interior is mostly dark wood.  They really try to get into the theme so there are ceiling fans moving at a lazy speed, comfortable booth and table seating and displays lined with straw and other paraphernalia.  Now, this doesn't get to Applebee's level of "stuff on the walls".  It manages to keep it fairly tasteful.

We were seated within 10 minutes on a busy Sunday night and our waiter was at our table immediately.  He seemed very nice  but also kind of nervous.  I chalked this up to being new to the job (but I could be wrong).  Now, let me get the bad out of the way before I go into the rest of my experience.  After we ordered our food and the appetizers arrived, my girlfriend and I realized we had no silverware or small plates to eat the appetizers.  They were just plopped down in front of us (note: not by our waiter) and the server kind of ran away as fast as he could.  It took us another few minutes to get our waiter to get us plates and silverware.  Eventually he did but if there was an apology I didn't hear it.

Later when our dessert arrived, a similar situation occurred where we were not provided with any silverware for dessert.  Now, I'd be perfectly content to use the silverware that I ate my dinner with – except that had already been taken away.  Since we had a "to go" bag with some plastic spoons in it, we just broke those out instead.

I put the "bad" out there first because I want it known if it weren't for the service issues above, this would be a four star review.  Fortunately, the rest of our experience was awesome.  Here's a rundown of what we had:

    CONCH FRITTERS
Jerry Seinfeld once joked about ordering fried things in ball shapes at restaurants, and he wasn't wrong.  The fritters come out in a ball shape but  mak eno mistake, these are tasty morsels.  One serving had six of these with a sweet and tangy dipping sauce.  When you bite into the fritters you can feel and taste several pieces of conch, not just one or two.  I was very pleasantly surprised.

    JERK CHICKEN WINGS
These wings were easily my favorite dish of the night.  They don't just give you a drumstick and call it a whole wing.  Instead you get the whole wing, tip and all (I enjoy the tips).  The wings were crispy on the outside and perfectly juicy on the inside.  The spices on them were delicious and they came with a really tasty and spicy dipping sauce.

    WEST INDIES CURRY
This dish is served with Naan bread and and yellow rice.  The curry has bits of chicken with vegetable in a really tasty curry that had hints of all-spice – as I had hoped.  The rice was nicely cooked and the naan was tasty (though a bit more pita than naan in texture).

    HALF CHICKEN
My girlfriend ordered a half chicken served with rice and maduros.  The chicken was  well cooked, but sadly mostly flavorless.  The rice was the same rice I had in my dish and it was tasty.  Oddly, all of three pieces of maduros were included with the dish.  Between the "okay" chicken and tiny side portions I would strongly recommend against ordering this dish.

    COQUITO
I have fond memories of this strong drink, and the bar here made a fairly "safe" version which had very little alcohol in it.  The flavor was great, and here was ground nutmeg on top.

    DESSERT
We had the rum cake with ice cream and raisins for deessert.  Recommendation: do what we did and keep the ice cream and cake separate so the cake doesn't turn to mush . I enjoyed this dish, though I expected the dessert to be more tasty.  The flavor was extremely light and the ice cream was average (the rum raisins on top.

Overall I can't say I had a bad time at Bahama Breeze, but the service definitely needs to be stepped up a bit.  Dishes and silverware are the basics.

  3. Came here with friends for our girls' night out. It was good but not spectacular.

    What was good:

Service was very good, our waiter checked on us often and let us sit & gab.
Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer was good.
My friends were happy with the empanada appetizer.
The half price happy hour was good, but for a weeknight the place was packed. The crowd let up after happy hour, though.

    What was ok:

I was indifferent about my Yellowtail Snapper Veracruz. The flavor was a bit off to me, and it was dry. The topping was supposed to be olives & tomatoes, but there were a lot more olives and the olives were all I could taste. The plantains served with it were ok.

Neither of my friends seemed overly enthusiastic about their paellas. They liked them but didn't love it. We've been spoiled by Newark's Ironbound, I believe.

    What was not so good:

Drinks: my drink was extremely weak. I'm an alcohol lightweight and I didn't get so much as a buzz. It was just pure sugar.I had ordered the Ultimate Pina Colada and I swear there wasn't any alcohol in it. My friend said the same thing about her drink, so I guess they're weak during happy hour.

It was good to sit and talk and the location was convenient for us, but it wouldn't be on my return list.

  4. I've been to this chain in many different locations from Jersey to Florida. Service has always been pretty good and the food as well.  This was my first time at this location and while the food was up to par with the rest of them, the service was pretty bad. We were seated by the hostess and shortly afterwards, our waiter came over to take our drink and appetizer orders.  We place our orders and a little more time passes and he returns for our dinner orders. Still no drinks or apps. Around 20 minutes goes by and we don't see our waiter anywhere. we flag down another waiter who gets him for us. He asks "what's wrong?"  I told him, we don't have any drinks yet. He says, "they should be ready on the bar" and proceeds to go there. Only problem is, he leaves the bar and still doesn't bring the drinks. Looks to me like he never put the order in! Around 10 more minutes goes by and he returns with my wife's drink and tells me bad news, "they are out of the beer I ordered. Do I want something else?"  Ummmmm……NO!  It took almost a half hour for this?? I'm not waiting any longer.
A minute later, a different server drops our appetizers off. Before we can even reach into the plate, another server brings our dinners!!  I don't know what the management was doing here, but the service was an epic fail from start to finish.  I am a pretty generous tipper, but this time I let it be known that he screwed up by the tip I left.

  5. They never used to have happy hour but I'm happy they do now!! There's such a big selection!! I've been twice in the last two weeks! I got the Jamaican jerk shrimp and lobster shrimp quesadillas both were delicious!! Their systems shut down and it took over 30 minutes to get our food Friday but Ryan the manager was beyond accommodating!!! He continued to check on us to make sure everything was ok till we left! You cant find a good HH anymore that has $4 wells and over 15 different half off apps!! The food is very good!

  6. I came here for the first time and I fell in love! Everything has a Caribbean decor which makes the place very vibrant!

My friends and I got a variety of dishes which tasted wonderfully! The quesadilla and coconut shrimp tacos were absolutely amazing. I'll definitely be coming here again for the food!

The service was okay. It wasn't great or awful. We were serviced once our total party arrived and they food came quickly.

  7. Music was great and our waiter was also very good.  Food was ok… We ordered some onion rings, which came with a sweet honey mustard.  This was really good, however the Jamaican hot sauce made this even better.

Spinach dip, was very bland, and probably should be avoided…. Much like the jerk chicken sandwich…. This was the most disappointing.  A lot of bread, some very small pieces of diced chicken… And a slice of cheese… And some really sweet bbq sauce on the side.  Probably one of the most disappointing sandwiches I've had.  Don't know why, but I expected a full piece of chicken… With some lettuce, tomatoes…. Just something with the sandwich.

My wife had the jerk chicken pasta, which was pretty decent.

Live band outside was a nice touch… Go for the music and drinks!

  8. I love this place. No matter how many times I come back I always find something new and awesome to try! All of their food is fresh and tastes fantastic…I can attest to the fresh part, my sister works here and said deliveries come often! My husband always comes back for the jerk chicken and I come back for all of it!
