  1. Mr. Wonton is the first place in the area I've tried that I can actually say has good Chinese food.  I am not Chinese, but believe me, I can eat Chinese food like a motherf*cker and have been doing so for decades, so I feel qualified to judge it.  I've been living in Park Slope for less than 6 months and have been shocked at the absence of really good Chinese spots, for dining in or take out.  It's sad, really.

I've tried Red & Hot II, Hunan Delight, and some other spot that I don't recall the name of, and none of them were as good as Mr. Wonton.  I've only had delivery, but everything I've eaten has been pretty spot on.  Everything from the likes of chicken or beef w/ broccoli, chow fun, general tso's, moo shu, scallion pancakes, dumplings, h&s soup, and pan fried noodles were all very tasty.

The flavors are right, the portions are impressive, the ingredients are fresh, and the final product has never seemed overly oily or MSG-riddled.  What's more, the folks on the phone have their shit together and can communicate effectively, and the delivery times are generally quick.  They also give you a pretty accurate estimate of how long it's going to take, which I appreciate.

Overall, highly recommended for the area.  In my estimation, it's about as good as it gets in the Slope.  If you feel otherwise, or have other suggestions, feel free to hit me up…I'm always on the lookout!

  2. Review is for eat-in.

Vegetable dumplings were interesting: delicious spinach wrap outside, not many vegetables inside. Mostly air.

I asked for less oil in my lo mein. Seemed to be the exact same amount that was in my date's. Mushrooms were tasty, though!

They do have a good assortment of vegetarian "meat" options, so if someone suggested it I wouldn't be opposed to a second try.

  3. This is somewhere between classic American Chinese food and something healthy. The food is good, quick, and cheap.

  4. Our go-to Chinese delivery in the 'Slope.

  5. Okay so I lied. I can't boycott this place because the food is too good. Anyone else who is a Brooklyn native understands how hard it is to find high quality chinese food. Unfortunately, the service continues to be hit or miss. Until some other place wows me and doesn't give me food poisoning I've got to stick with Mr. Wonton for delivery.

  6. I'm not normally a Chinese food kind of girl, though I've had plenty in my day. I generally prefer Thai…but Mr. Wonton has changed my mind when it comes to takeout Chinese. On the basis of the scallion pancakes alone, this place deserves 4 stars, and the high quality of the food in general merits that 5th star. I love chicken with string beans, the vegetable dumplings, and the chicken with eggplant. Their delivery is fast and the food is hot when it arrives. Those scallion pancakes…don't forget to order them.

  7. What would a trip to Brooklyn be without a stop for Chinese food? I cannot see why Mr. Wonton's gets such a low rating. I thought the food was delicious and the service was attentive, which if you've read my other NY reviews I have abstained from commenting on service because of the stereotypical NY indifference to attention and service.

For dinner, my two cousins and I shared a bunch of dishes:
    * Chicken & Broccoli in White sauce – fresh steamed broccoli and tender, sliced chicken in a mild and tasty white sauce
    * Beef with Veggies – an assortment of colorful veggies complimented tasty shavings of beef in this delish dish
    * Sesame Noodles – a cold appetizer of noodles in a light sesame dressing which is one of my all-time favorite flavors
    * I always appreciate the authentic Chinese spots that offer the wonton strips with sweet & sour dipping sauces

I'd go back here for the quality and the value.

  8. I've been coming here for years. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal here. With that being said the food is better sitting down rather than having it delivered. It's way better than the small takeout places, the food is better quality. The waitress knows my order by heart even if I don't come in for a few months. The staff are friendly and the food is great!
