My cousins live directly across the street from this place and we had a late night bite here. Overall we had great service and excellent food. For the most part this review doesn't cover their full menu since we only had their salads and some drinks, but they were great. I will look forward to going back to try the main courses.
Came here during restaurant week but ordered from the regular menu. Started off with two drinks from their cocktail menu which were disappointing. We got seated promptly at our reservation time and were presented with some popovers…which were great.
I went with the bone in rib eye and my wife went with the burger. We got an order of sweet potato fries to share. Food came out after about 15 minutes or so and it looked awesome… but.. my wife's burger came with fries too doh! I wish the server told us that it came with fries so we could've tried a different side.
Oddly enough, I spoke to a coworker of mine and he had the exact same complaint about the fries…. Bizzare.
I was going to give them 3 stars, but the food here is really good, so I had to bump them back up. Their steaks are delicious but I don't quite exactly think they rival the big boys in nyc.
Oh my stars, the popovers!
I wouldn't consider myself a regular here, but whenever I'm on the UES, I know I'll have a solid meal here.
This time around I had the Amish chicken which was basic, but not so basic. The chicken was super juicy and had crispy skin (two thumbs up). The cramp succotash-like veggies (corn, green beans, peas) underneath were the perfect compliment. Most restaurants love to weigh chicken down with carbs. The "special sauce" that came with was just tangy (albeit delicious) bbq sauce.
Before this meal, I've had the chicken meatballs, the sirloin steak, tuna tartare, Brussel sprouts, papillote of sea bass – all nom nom nom… I love the presentation of steak with the shallots and rosemary.
I've been here during dinner, last call, formal seating, quick meal at the bar, upstairs, downstairs, and have received nothing but great service and food.
This place is a hidden gem in the UES. The filet was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the creamed spinach was delicious. Even the bread basket was ridiculously good. The peanut butter bar dessert was unreal and the perfect size for sharing and not feeling 30 lbs heavier leaving the restaurant. Beautiful space, great atmosphere and great service. Definitely coming back here!
I always struggle in my choice for choosing a spot for restaurant week, and I'm usually let down with the whole concept, since it's typically never the same as ordering off the regular menu, but I was so happy to experience the fantastic dining experience on the last night of Summer restaurant week at Arlington Club!
My boyfriend and I came here for a Friday night dinner, and it was easy to get a same day reservation for the 2 of us. The vibe was very dark, romantic with that old school steakhouse feel. We have very different tastes in food, so we were able to order a variety of the dishes. I was happy to see more than 2-3 options for each course too!
My eyes lit up when our waiter brought over 2 giant popovers which were warm, peppery & buttery delicious. It's such a fun treat, since I don't know many places that serve popovers anymore, let alone ones the size of your head! We started with the tuna tartare and BBQ brisket spring rolls. Both were very good, but neither mind blowing. The spring rolls were full of flavors but was taken away a bit by the dough of the roll itself.
For entrees, I ordered the roast chicken which was good, but the creamed corn stole the show. I seriously debated asking for more, but held back. My boyfriend ordered the skirt steak which he raved about and said it had a great rub. He chose not to use the mole sauce which came on the side and seemed unnecessary and would drown the flavor of the meat.
For dessert we both opted for the peanut butter chocolate bar….OMG! Everything about this was heavenly.
All said and done, I walked out extremely full and satisfied. The service was top notch. At one point, I looked up and there were about 10 waiters just surrounding us, like game faces on and ready to go. I love a place with outstanding service, it really changes the game.
I'd love to come back for a special occasion. This is definitely a break the bank kind of place without restaurant week. Glasses of wine run $15-20 alone. Worth it for a treat!
Well the popovers are delicious and I'm sure by the other reviews I don't really need to get into them.
The shrimp are huge and are cooked perfect. 3-4 are good for 1 person, you can order them by the piece which is nice.
The steaks are delicious and I highly recommend getting something bone in.
Why are the reviews so low for Arlington Club? I have no idea. This place is better than many of the other top rated NYC steakhouses. Sure its in the barren UES but if you need a place in that neighborhood Arlington Club is a fine choice.
Wonderful appetizers and salads, perfectly cooked steak as well as some less expensive main options like the Short Rib Lasagna (it's FREAKING HUGE) or the Arlington Burger.
Side options are good too, creamed spinach made with fontina cheese and a hint of nutmeg, and I always love a steakhouse that has onion rings.
They also have a small selection of custom craft cocktails which are very nice and a decently priced wine list.
Like I said I'm rarely in the UES but I would absolutely return here.
Pros:
1. Very classy decor.
2. The popovers that they start you off with are served hot and have a real rich buttery flavor.
3. Excellent service.
4. THE BEST BANANA CREAM PIE I'VE EVER HAD. Banana cream pie, you da real MVP.
Cons:
A. Creamed spinach was really REALLY salty.
B. The steak felt a little plain. I had a side of bernaise sauce to go along with it which helped, and don't get me wrong it was by all means an excellent steak, but I can't help but feel I've had better at other steak houses.
C. Prices are higher than steak houses which are widely considered better.
I'd give this review 4 stars, but the desserts really impressed me. Try the banana cream pie. You won't regret it.
