  1. Rarely does a restaurant's name more accurately describe its dining experience- the food is spicy and very tasty. The hand rolled noodles and the peanut butter balls are mandatory. No waiting and quick service- safe bet for an authentic experience, comfortably outside the hipster radar.

  2. Everything about this restaurant is just average to me. Nothing stands out, not the good or the bad. Food is good but not amazing. Service is ok but not horrible. The only thing I noticed that slightly bothered me was the same waitress who greeted me, brought me a menu, took my order, brought me my food and took my check was also wrapping wontons or dumplings at the back table in between those events and did so without washing her hands or wearing gloves. I am aware that food hygiene is an issue in many restaurants but I would prefer if they actually make an effort to hide it.

  3. The best Szechuan I've had in NYC ever!!  And the place is huge, so we were able to be seated in 20 minutes with a party of 10.  We came on a Satuday night at 7 pm with no reservation.

    FOOD
    – Order the Dan Dan noodles!  They were just spicy enough, without numbling my mouth (which is what usually happens to me at other places.  Flavorful and well done.
    – "Enhanced Pork" — such an odd name.  Enhanced Pork are thin slices of pork belly, which is the fatty part of the pig used for bacon in the US.  Yumm
    – Spinach with sauteed garlic.  Needed to get some veggies in, so went with this classic dish.  It wasn't too oily.

Between the ten of us, we ordered so much food that the lazy susan couldn't handle it.  I came with Westerners who loved every single dish they ordered, so go ahead and try anything.

  4. We got take out that surprisingly took like 20 minutes! I got the wonton in chili oil and pork intestine spicy soup.  SAdly, nothing was spicy! It was just drenched in chili oil, not the flakes.  The wontons were good, but they were really small– not big like the ones in new world mall.  The soup came with overfilling noodles, but the broth tasted like water, even with the 1 inch of chili oil on top of it. Sadly, this place failed twice in it's name sake.. not spicy and not tasty.

  5. Just average.

As another reviewer noted, everything about this place is just average. Nothing stands out.

The noodles were a bit soggy and had very little taste. The sliced lamb was really flavorful and not too spicy. The chicken and eggplant was flavorful too but we're pretty sure we found some seafood in it for some reason.

The staff is attentive and helpful.

  6. I think this is my favorite restaurant in New York. I've been here 7-8 times, but the other night was the first time with a large group, so I got to try a few new things. If you don't know what to get, it's possible to have some misses so here are my suggestions with each (order number):

The GREAT (I get these every time!)
    Apps:
-Dan Dan Noodle (31): I think these are the best in NYC. Creamy textured noodles in a savory sauce with just a touch of the Sichuan peppercorn..drool.
-Arctic Surf Claims with Wasabi (16): The wasabi spice is such a fantastic counterpoint to the Sichuan spice, careful with both or you'll melt your face! One of the most delicious and interesting things I've ever eaten.
-Beef Tendon in Red Chili Sauce (9): I love this, all of my friends seem put off by the fact that it's tendon. But the tendon is quite TenDER, as a result of marinating in the chili oil.
-Shredded Dry Bean Curd w/ Celery (6): A little bit of that peppercorn flavor is a great contrast against the freshness of the celery and bean curd.
    Mains:
-Spicy Chicken Sichuan Style (84): THIS is the must-order for spicy lovers as it is one of the few dishes where they throw in whole Sichuan peppercorns
-Eggplant in Garlic Sauce(166): great texture, a little bit spicy

    The GOOD:
-Sliced Pork w/ Garlic Sauce (12): Pork belly marinated in a spicy garlic sauce, absolutely succulent.
-Dumplings in Red Chili Sauce (28): nice spicy well textured dumplings
-Wontons in Red Chila Sauce (23) also really good, I prefer the dumplings though
-Wontons in Chicken soup (24) mild flavor, nice change up but not spicy at all
-Mapo Tofu: The best Mapo I've had anywhere, I'm just not a big fan of it personally
-Shredded Beef With Green Hot Pepper (54): Really good but doesn't have the red peppers or peppercorns that come with #84

    The MEH :
-Smoked Tea Duck (36): Nice presentation, with plum sauce on the side but way too salty. None of us could really eat it.
-String Beans: Garlicky, but not spicy and if you're not ordering something spicy, why are you here?
-Sauteed Spinach w/ Garlic: again, not spicy and nothing you couldn't get at any regular Chinese restaurant.
-Cold sesame dried beef: nice and spicy but the texture of the beef slices were pretty tough, almost like beef jerky.
-Seaweed Salad: They heap on a bunch of sesame oil and garlic and the "seaweed" is from a larger sea vegetable that has a weird texture.

  7. Came here with friends for dinner! Our group of 8 got here a little before 7 and there was no wait for seating. The place looks like your typical Chinese restaurant but I liked how everything seemed very clean. Service was very nice and attentive as well. Since I'm not too familiar with Szechuan food, I looked to Yelp for recommendations on what to order and here's what we got:

Chinese mushrooms with tripe- It's a cold and spicy dish and I found it to be very tasty! The enoki mushrooms and tripe both had very crispy textures and were marinated to perfection!
Spicy beef tripe- Ok…maybe we went a little overboard in the amount of tripe we ordered but I did like the beef slices that were mixed in with the tripe in this dish! Again, marinade was spot on and not too spicy.
Spicy tendons- This one was ehh. I've had tendons before but I didn't like how the ones here were served in a pool of spicy and greasy sauce. The tendons themselves were not bad but I just didn't like the presentation of the dish.
Dan Dan noodles- Very delicious! The noodles were literally bouncing off my teeth and the sauce was perfect! It says that there's minced meat in it too but I barely found any pieces of meat.
Chicken with peanuts- Hands down the best dish of the night! The sauce was just so delicious because it had a nice sweetness to it! It was perfectly complimented by a slight spiciness from the peppers. Chicken was delicious and mixed well with the peanuts!
Mapo tofu- Tasted pretty standard. Tofu and sauce were both good. Again, there's supposed to be minced meat but I barely found any pieces of meat.
Spicy lamb with peppers- Oh man, this dish has those famous tongue numbing chili peppers that Szechuan dishes are famous for. If it's your first time trying it, it could be a little freaky because you literally lose control of some parts of your tongue and when you drink water, it tastes sweet WHAT?? The lamb was alright though. It's similar to the ones you find on the lamb sticks that they sell in the street carts.
Sweet and sour fish fillet- Sauce was spot on and fish was delicious! Best part is that it's a fillet so no need to worry about picking out the bones 🙂

This is my first time trying Szechuan food and I'm glad that I chose Spicy and Tasty because the food was so good! I had expected all of the food to be super spicy but there was nothing that we ordered that was overbearingly spicy. Every dish that we ordered was just so delicious! Service was great and decor is not bad. Definitely try this place out if you're looking into getting Szechuan food!

  8. Almost 5!

Best Sichuan restaurant yet I have ever been in NY.

The spiciness is just right and tolerable.  The food was perfect.  We loved everything we ordered.  Remember to order the green scallion fried rice.  The beef with peppers is excellent.  The peppers. Little spicy.  The sauce is perfect.

The fish may look greasy but just take fish and the spice in the center.  Fish is not dry at all.

The service was good and the toilets clean.

When we came out we saw it was rated by other food magazines and food critiques high.

So glad we ate here.  If you are looking for a new flavor of Chinese food, try this Sichuan restaurant.  It's a good change.
