Tried this place after a late flight. We ordered the chicken chow mein and the boneless chicken. I was rather disappointed in this place.
Though the portions were big and they packed the meals with everything including tea, the food was not that great. I am not sure if they messed up our order even though the circled the items on the attached menu, but what I thought was chow mein was a completely soggy mess. I opened up the box to discover a condensed soup with celery, pieces of chicken, onion and NO noodles!! I thought that was what chow mein was. It is at least that way on at every Chinese place I've eaten at. It was very bland and the texture was gross. I had to add a lot of soy sauce, salt, and pepper to make this tolerable. In the end, I ended up eating the pieces of floating chicken.
The boneless chicken was alright, but not very fantastic. It was like chicken cutlet pieces in a sweet hoisin sauce. The only thing was that it was too sweet. I could not stand it after three pieces. It was a good thing I got rice on the side because that was the only way to filter out the sweetness.
My experience with this place wasn't that great, but their menu is huge so other things might be good. I just don't have the urge to come back.
Best take out in Staten Island! Chicken with garlic sauce is so good! They actually make it spicy. The shrimp with sweet and spicy chili sauce is amazing. Hot and sour soup is on point. The crispy chicken is delicious!
This is what I had:
Yang Chow fried rice Qt. $8.75
Boneless Chicken (breaded) w. Veggies in brown sauce $10.50
Chicken Soup w. Mai Fun noodles $5.65
The attentive and friendly clerk served my friend and I 2 steamed dumplings that the cooks had just finished preparing as a welcome to the restaurant gesture. She also greeted the next customer by surname! Now if only the sit-down joints around SI had such good service…
This is my reaction:
The fried rice was made with white meat chicken, ham, and shrimp – cooked without soy sauce so it was low sodium, and white in color. Excellent dish!
There were 2 breaded and fried chicken breasts served on a bed of sauteed veggies in a lightly sweet brown sauce. Yummy!
The soup's bland taste was more a testament to the fresh ingredients and lack of MSG. I won't complain, but you could always add some soy sauce if you need it.
I will be trying out the rest of their menu in the future. I'm glad I found this place.
Cash only.
It's take out only but you may have guessed that from their name.

This is my ultimate favorite chinese restaurant on the island. The food is awesome and the owners are very friendly and down to earth. I wished they would expand to sit down restaurant.
The food is very tasty and delicious. They can make it spicy and tasty all in one. You cannot get that kind of level of taste in any other chinese takeout on the island unless you go to brooklyn. I drive out of my way to get their food with my kids. Their general tso, chicken/shrimp with broccoli with garlic sauce, beef fried rice and spare ribs are one of my favorite dishes to get there. Every other chinese restaurant I go to has a sweet sour taste to their garlic sauce…instead of the spicy taste. Their food is the only ones like they have in nyc/bklyn…..don't have to pay toll to get it.
The owners are really genuinely humble, sweet and friendly. They treat everyone like family. Yes I am soo the regular customer and I actually feel good about saying that.
It's take out and cash bases only. They need to expand.
It's as GREAT as advertised!! I came all the way here from Jersey because of all the hype and rave reviews it has received. It has been a staple of Staten Island for years and I heard from several locals that it was the best chinese take out not only in Staten Island, but in all of New York. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken, which is what they're known for, and it was amazing. The General Tso's Chicken was perfectly crisp and juicy. I also had their chicken fried rice, which was cooked perfectly with white meat chicken. The place was clean, the service was excellent, and the food was to die for. I can honestly say, this has been the best take out experience I've ever had.
THE BEST CHINESE ON STATEN ISLAND. Period. End of Story.
Tack, himself, is a doll. I've never had a greasy egg roll, my favorite, for him ever. I don't know how he does it, but they come out dry and not covering the bag in oil.
The General Tso's chicken is crisp and spicy. Bold spicy. You can ask him to make it less spicy, but don't. It's perfection.
Everything and anything on the menu is awesome. And I'm really happy he never added friend chicken wings and french fries like some places have. THATS NOT CHINESE!
Take out only, by the way!
Though it's been years since I've ordered from here, Tack's was definitely the place to get your Chinese food in Staten Island. Tack himself is a really nice guy, and it's a family owned business. Many times when we would go to get food, his kids would be studying behind the counter, or his wife was taking the orders.
Great food, although the prices started to climb throughout the years. Definitely great when you ask them to "spice up" dishes. Definitely check it out!
