  1. Great traditional family style Chinese dishes in Queens!  I'm so happy to have something this good in Queens and not having it in the heart of Flushing.  I think this might have been the reason for Mian's closing.  I order the green beans, salt and pepper pork chops, and salty shrimp fried rice.  Everything was delicious and roughly 12 dollars a dish, but huge family style portions.

Definitely recommend families to come eat together.  They also have 4 televisions, which I of course asked for them to put on the mets game.  They changed the channel with no problem since nobody else was watching tv.

  2. bf and i have been wanting to try this place since its close to our house and ive seen their awesome yelp reviews. we went in on a friday night to order take out to bring home. they have a variety of selections on their menu.

we ended up ordering 2 apps and the family meal.
for the apps, we ordered the fried intestines and fried calamari.
i did NOT like the fried intestines… it was VERY fatty but the sauce was good. my bf liked it a lot.. he said it was very cantonese… (GROSS lol)
the fried calamari was REALLY good. nice flavor.

for the family meal, we ordered shrimp with egg, eggplant with salted fish and pork chops with peking sauce. got 3 orders of rice and an order of chicken corn soup that came with it .
shrimp with egg = REALLY yummy. there were quite a good number of shrimp and the shrimp were VERY crunchy aka, super fresh!
eggplant with salted fish = a bit too saucy and i wish there was more salted fish cause we didnt really have a lot of the salted fish flavor
pork chops = oh my .super flavorful and yummy…

the food was really good… everytihng came out to like $48. so the price is moderate. not too salty and we will be back for sure!

  3. GRAND OPENING CANTONESE / CHINESE STYLE Food.

Place is new, MODERN look, Comfy, classic style.
Service is friendly and sometimes can be slow since there's 1-2 staff that serving 20 tables.

Lunch Special  is awesome! ($6.95) for a Entree with Rice (Or fried rice) and a choice of Soup
Over 30 Selections to choose from.

My fave one is salt and pepper Pork Chop over rice.
Also the Beef over Peking sauce and Onions over rice.
They also serve a Selection of LO Mein with the choise of meat you pick (For $ 8.25) and a Soup.

    Will definitely come back again.

  4. Yay, real Cantonese food.  I have mixed feelings though about this restaurant. I feel the food is good but the service is not too good. We came twice and the timing of the dishes are not correct. Both time the entrees didn't come at the same time. There was over a half hour before the next entree came. That is a timing issue. People who came in after us were getting their food before us.

I agree with some of the reviewers about the family meal special they advertise on their menu for $28.95. No where on the menu does it say when the family meal special is served, so I inquired. The waitress told me that the special is valid during weekdays only. So I can see why there is confusion because the waitress considers Friday as a weekend which technically that is incorrect. The dictionary defines weekday as: a day of the week other than Saturday or Sunday. The establishment is actually incorrect by informing customers that the family meal special is only served during the weekdays. They should really on the menu say that the family meal special is offered only Monday to Thursday and state the times. The restaurant seems to change their policy about the family meal special whenever they want. If they state it on the menu then there would be no issues and arguments, as I have seen some. I am on the side of the patrons.

The staff really needs to work on their customer service skills. One time we were trying to figure out what soups they were offering that day and the waitress mumbled her way through the list of soups. All three of us could not understand her speech at all. She already was turning away from us before she even finished speeding through the list. She turned around and walked away. Can you believe we had to get up to ask her again the soups of the day?! We had to chase her down. The attitude of the staff is bad. They have attitudes like they can't be bothered. Hello, it's your business to serve us!

Regardless of their issues they need to iron out, I still like the food. The pork dishes I had were really good.

  5. Look out Fresh Meadows, Chinatown has come to town!  Forget all the Chinese-American fast food takeout joints because this is the real Cantonese deal.  I don't have to truck all the way to Main Street Flushing to get my congee, wonton noodle and over rice fix anymore.  I can get those and banquet style meals all in one place now.  This is a great modern looking sit down place with mixed tables and bench seating for families and groups.  The staff here are very nice and often when I come in for my takeout order, they'll serve me a cup of tea while I'm waiting.  This is an example of hospitality that is missing from many restaurants these days.

For lunch, you can get a variety of individual rice plates to eat in as well as to go.  One of my go-to's is sliced beef in egg sauce, a classic Chinatown favorite from my childhood.  Don't want to cook dinner on a weekday night?  Order their triple meal deal for $28.95, M-Th.  You choose 3 dishes from a large selection and it comes with a quart of soup and big box of rice if you're getting it to go or 3 bowls of each if you're eating in.  We've had this twice, both for eat-in and for takeout and include many of the standard Cantonese dishes such as Salt & Pepper Squid, Pork Ribs w/ Black Bean Sauce, Beef & Bitter Melon & Peking Pork Chops.  An everyday menu item I go for every time are the steamed fresh oysters.  Big & juicy, you can order with black bean or XO sauce.  For holidays, they offer special prix-fixe banquet style menus chock full of seafood dishes.

  6. Ordered the beef stew noodle ($6.50) and the seafood braised noodles ($14.95). Prices are more in line with traditional Chinese restaurants, not Chinese American take out which is fine by me since that's the type of food you're getting. According to my husband the beef stew was just OK, probably not cooked long enough to develop enough flavor but it was not bad. I enjoyed the braised noodle but not enough seafood for me (only had three small pieces of fish fillet along with a few pieces of squid, scallop, etc) but flavor was good. In terms of service, it was attentive. There was only one other table when we first arrived so the waiters were good about getting us what we needed. It did get bit busier around 7pm. If you need a highchair, you need to ask for it since they keep it in the back. Overall would return especially if we are ever around the area for a movie at AMC. FYI – There's a credit card minimum of $15 bucks.

  7. Ichopsticks is a welcome addition to this area, especially because there is a lack of authentic Cantonese Cuisine restaurants in this area that is jam packed with Chinese residents.

Food: we had the beef chow fun and shrimp fried rice along with spring rolls as appetizer. The spring rolls came a bit cold in the center, but were immediately replaced after I pointed this out to the server. The fried rice and beef stir fried noodles were on point. Much better than I had expected at this price point. The higher end items that a neighboring table ordered, i.e. fried whole fish, steamed oysters, et al., looked so darn good!

Service: relatively responsive for a busy Tuesday evening. A woman who I suspect was the owner came to say hello.

Decor: extremely new and well structured interior with clean restroom.

Sure, this is no New Tasty House 18 but this is a wonderful first step to what hopefully will be a significant number of ethnic eateries, Chinese or otherwise, in this area. Boston Market, Qdoba, Five Guys, and other franchise places need to face stiff competition in order to either improve themselves or leave. Local is the way to go!

  8. This is my fifth time here so far, and they just keep on making you want to come back. Me and Rob decided to give this place a try because we saw that it was new and the name of the restaurant was interesting nonetheless. The staff were all very helpful and nice, just like how a good restaurant should be like. The food was great, VERY authentic, home-styled cooking! So far I have tried many of their dishes and even had mad a little food vlog about it on my blog, but I love everything I tried. My only complaint would be for the Ho Fun Beef Stew Noodles in which tastes a bit plain. But there's nothing hot sauce can't fix. They also have great wontons. (shrimp) I think this place is has good potential so far, and I hope they continue to keep it up.
