Came here for lunch because the 2 restaurants that we went was packed. When we got there we don't have to wait. We sat & the waiter ask us if were getting the soup dumplings. I guess thats their specialty since most of the picture on their yelp page is soup dumplings. We got the pork & crab soup dumplings. While waiting for our dumplings I check their menu. I observed that most food are served in big portion. Its good for family style meal and its just me & my bf so we don't want those big plate serving. I can't pick any dish & just stick to soup dumplings & hot & sour soup. The soup dumplings is okay while the hot and sour soup is too thick. I didn't like it. Not really impressive.
I have been here so many times! I especially like red bean pancake and Xiao long bao!! Service seems better than last year!
My latest experience here was around 11pm on a weekday and went to Nanxiang a few days later, my immediate reaction was that "Nanxiang is much better." The XLB we ordered were too dry and our server, while nice, made a mistake with our bill and at least we caught it before we paid.
my favorite pork soup dumplings ever! the best thing to get on a cold night. the wait times can be a little long, but service is speedy and the line moves quickly. i loved it so much that i request to come here every trip to nyc.
I came here with my boyfriend's family around New Years Eve last year because they loved the soup dumplings here – and I ended up loving them too!
We got two different kinds – a pork soup dumpling and a crab meat soup dumpling. The crab meat ones were pretty damn good but the pork ones were absolutely amazing! The pork and soup were delicious and the dumpling was cooked perfectly. The dumplings were sturdy enough to make it into a spoon but if you weren't careful with them they would tear open draining soup everywhere. But mmm delicious. Best soup dumplings I've ever had – though disclaimer: I've only ever had them from three places.
Although the soup dumplings were the star of the show, the other food was really good as well! In addition to the soup dumplings we also got the shanghai noodles, sauteed peapod greens, and beef with scallions. Surprisingly of those three things the peabod greens were my favorite. They were seasoned really well, had a great texture and was perfect to cut the oiliness of the other dishes. The shanghai noodles had a good texture but they were really really oily. The beef was good too but nothing to rave about.
Overall I would definitely come back for the soup dumplings and get some greens on the side!
Mediocre. A good place to get your hunger fixed without breaking your wallet and in a short period of time. However, the crowd nowadays is definitely people who come because of the still "living" hype. I remember about 4-5 years ago, every single time I made a trip to Joe's, I would find myself waiting behind a few parties but today when I went- on a Saturday at dinner time, I was quickly seated and the place was nowhere near packed. I found that dumplings got dry pretty quickly and is no longer served as hot and fresh as it used to be. The quality of food definitely went down but it's still tasty- as long as you eat it quickly. Went with my boyfriend and got two orders of pork soup dumplings and the crispy pan fried noodles with beef. Again, with the crispy pan fried noodles; tasty but eat it quickly. Unfortunately, the noodles get soggy- exceedingly soggy compared to pan fried noodles elsewhere. And don't forget to bring cash! They only accept cash and the closest ATM is the bank (that I can't even remember because I doubt anybody goes there) & Chase, which is about 3 blocks away (which really sucks especially if you have to venture there and back in the chilly below freezing wind & snow).
I've had better xiao long bao (soup dumplings) than the ones here. They aren't bad. I've just had better and don't find the ones here to be worth the incredibly long wait for a seat. However some of the other food is pretty great.
Their scallion pancakes are delicious. Super oily but so tasty
The sesame noodles were unexpectedly awesome. Very flavorful.
Ja jiang Mien – you get a solid amount of meat in the bean sauce. Tastes pretty good.
This place is popular and gets quite crowded so be prepared to come early or be hangry. Service is soso as they're busy so it make take time to get their attention and more time for them to come back with whatever you requested.
Came here today with some friends had some of the soupy dumplings. They were good but not as good as another place I go to in Chinatown.
The service here was good. The waiters and staff were friendly.
