Came here tonight for the first time with my parents on my mom's friend recommendation. We sat at a table with our own little corner at the front of the restaurant. My mom flipped through the menu and looked at the posters plastered on the wall.
My mom ordered Crab Meat & Fish Maw Soup, Tai Pang Rice Noodle, and Crispy Chicken. I was thinking about the Steamed Crab with Stick Rice until the server mentioned that its $26 something per pound and I don't trust that the staff would give us the fattiest crab with actual crab meat in it so I went with my second choice of Lamb Chops instead.
I didn't taste much crab in the soup and the fish maw was very oddly weird. My parents seemed to enjoy it and be sure to sprinkle some white pepper in the soup. The rice noodle dish was very delicious but needed some hot sauce. Crispy Chicken and Lamb Chops were topped with the fried onions and scallions and love that smell. Lamb Chops was definitely my favorite as I don't eat it on a daily basis mmmmmm
Overall it was very delicious and need to come back to try more dishes soon! Remember CASH only!
Came here for a family dinner. The places is relatively big – they apparently had a lower level floor, but didn't see it as they had a table open up on the ground floor. We ordered the crab, fried tofu, golden egg fried rice, fish, and garlic chicken, and lamb chop. All recommended by a family friend. The meat was perfectly cooked. The lamb was really tender and the chicken too – seasoned well. I'd say overall, the way they cooked everything was pretty spot on. The flavors aren't really strong in comparison to other places if you like really bold flavors.
I had my 'welcome' dinner here with out of town friends who came to attend my wedding. Food is still great but omg, this is not a place to come with people if you want to talk.
We were sitting in the basement due to our large party size. This would not have been an issue except the table immediately next to us were SUPER loud and obnoxious. They were already drunk and kept on getting up and running around. There were still a few large tables in the basement. It would have been much better if they didn't put this group of people right next to our table. I had a headache after 1.5hrs of eating.. All I wanted to do was leave ASAP~
I'll still come back for a quick bite or takeout but definitely not for large groups.
I love the food here. It's authentic, and full of flavors. Their food is not oily or overly salty or full of MSG. The service here is above average too, the waiters are very attentive to your needs, they are quick and efficient. They do get pretty busy sometimes, especially during the holidays. So the wait can be long at certain times.
Authentic Cantonese Hong Kong Style cuisine at an affordable price.
Service is quick and very attentive. They must have changed our plates like 3 times.
The dishes are not overly salted and it is all flavor.
Ordered up some snails, fried pork chops, house special fried rice, melon soup, and some roasted chicken.
Usually when you go to other fast food joints that serve up asian food, you are left with grease, oil, and always thirsty because of the sodium and MSG. I am glad to say this place is none of the above, and I only left with my stomach full, my mouth still watering for my next visit, and service that is comparable to a higher end restaurant.
We quite enjoyed our meal here! It looks like we picked good dishes, based on other reviews – salt and pepper pork chop and ma pa tofu were two things we tried.
A bit run down on the inside, but clean. Prices seemed a little high when looking at the menu, but the portions were good and we had a lot of leftovers.
My boyfriend loved the pork, so hopefully we will be back!
Another great place to grab some Cantonese cuisine in Flushing. One foot inside you'll see a vintage Cantonese styled restaurant, old school atmosphere that'll make you feel like you're chowing down in Hong Kong. This is a family style restaurant, large tables for group outings and dishes designed to be shared during consumption.
I recommend you park in the meter parking lot outside (free parking is hard to come by in Flushing)
The food here is lip-smacking good. Here are some of my suggestions:
– Deep fried large intestines: Crispy and very flavorsome (don't be afraid to try it)
– Golden egg fried rice: Super tasty! A fresh, well-seasoned fried rice topped with yellow raisins, scallions and of course…EGG.
– Walnut shrimp with broccoli: The broccoli has a lot of bite and texture, the jumbo shrimp with mayo is just the best.
– Pepper beef (the pepper in the name refers to the bell pepper, not the seasoning): The beef is so tender it melts in your mouth.
– Crispy Garlic chicken: The skin is nice and crispy and the garnish of garlic and scallion makes the dish very aromatic.
Definitely a great way to experience Cantonese dining and cuisine. Makes me tear up just thinking about it.
On a search for some grub after a great event @leafloungeNYC, batman and I got some recommendations from fellow yelpers and went on the hunt. Our first stop was at Spicy & Tasty, unfortunately as we entered they told us the chef left.. 53 minutes prior to closing thought?
Sorry for being sidetracked, so back to the original review. So batman (Leo) has an obsession with chicken in garlic sauce, like bad. My next stop was going to be at the soup dumpling spot, but he insisted we enter Canton Gourment.
I didn't like it from the start. There was a strong fish Oder as you enter the place, we asked the view the menu and Leo was sold. We asked the sit far from the window and were placed in front of the dying fish tanks. I didn't know what was worse, facing them or having them quiver behind my back.
The server came and spoke English well.. Except for when I asked him about the chicken with cashews. Not trying to be mean, but if you need a good laugh ask him about that dish.
Onward, why I give the place poor stars is because the food was extremely disappointing. We ordered chicken with broccoli with garlic sauce and asked them to make it spicy, along with their famous fried rice dish, minus the shrimp.
The food came in good time. As you plate the food, there was a pool of oil on the bottom of the plate. The portions, although are nice, lack appeal and look dry. The fried rice lacked seasoning or any flavor. Some sweetness or salt or anything just to make it taste less like cardboard. Perhaps some diced pineapples or cashews or even handful more of raisins would possibly help… Possibly.
Chicken was also lacked in flavor, and oil doesn't count. No garlic essence, no heat, no crisp broccoli. They did place a side plate with hot sauce next to us which was disappointing.
Waiter never came back to our table to check on us once the food hit the table. Not even to deliver the check.
The highlight was the cut orange with the bill, which came with to stickers on top of slices.. Common guys!
