  1. I went to Peking House after hearing about how good the Peking duck was. I have to say, it's good. Really good.

36 dollars serve up enough food for 2-3 people depending on how well you eat. If you have never had duck before, know that it is very fatty and that you will feel full quickly because of the fat.

The atmosphere's… interesting. Not exactly sure what they are going for. The place just feels very old.

Overall, good food and old/cute atmosphere. I definitely recommend you try it at least once if you've never had Peking duck before.

  2. I've passed by Peking House many times, and I always see a lot of people eating here, so I decided to give it a try.

We came on a Saturday evening, and it wasn't as crowded as I expected. The host was very friendly and let us pick any seat we wanted. The atmosphere of the restaurant is pretty nice. It has an intimate and classy vibe, without the "city attitude".

We ordered Scallion Pancakes and Steamed Dim Sum to start our dinner. The pancakes were very good, but I wasn't a big fan of the dim sum. For the main dish, I ordered the Crispy Shrimp with Honey Walnuts from the chef's special. I loved the combination of the jumbo shrimps, walnuts and the tangy sauce. It was delicious! Would definitely order again!

I thought Peking House was a great place for dinner. I think I will bring the family with me next time as it's a nice restaurant for a group.

  3. We were invited out to dinner with some old friends we had not seen in years. One of our friends had eaten here in the past and made a reservation for 8 people. They put us in a separate room away from the rest of a very busy Saturday night dinner service.

The joint was jumping so to speak and was very busy at 7:30 when we arrived. But our table was ready and we were seated in no time.

A waiter came to our table to take our drink order. One of my friends ordered a Jack Daniels on the rocks. The waiter asked what "lox" was. We had to explain it was ice. This is this restaurant's main problem, the staff does not speak very good English. Which made ordering an adventure. But we managed to get our order in. We first ordered appetizers for the table and when they brought the appetizers we ordered the remainder of our meal.

I must say the food in this restaurant was very good for Chinese food in Queens. We had a bunch of assorted dumplings and dim sim for the apps. I had to try an egg-roll  and it too was very good, nice and crispy on the outside and not greasy at all with a good assortment of veggies on the inside.

For the main course we ordered some crispy shrimp with walnuts, steak in black peppercorn sauce, the steak was a little stringy but it was very flavorful.  We also ordered the house special rice noodles and some sauteed bok choy and shitake mushrooms. A couple of bowls of brown and white rice were brought to the table to complete the meal. We ordered some ice cream for dessert and they also brought a couple of plates of sliced oranges and fortune cookies.

If I lived in the area I would probably go back again as the food was quite good despite the weird service. But if I have to drive to a Chinese restaurant, I'm driving into Chinatown to eat at Hop Kee, my favorite Chinese restaurant in NYC. See my review on Yelp.

  4. This was my first time here and I loved it! The service was excellent the and food was delicious. I had the Mango Shrimp. The shrimp were huge and the sweetness of the mangos were perfect. My friend had the General Tsos Chicken and she loved it. The portions are big enough to take some home. I had my leftovers for dinner the next day and it still tasted amazing. I would definitely come back here again. Also the prices aren't bad especially for what you get.

  5. Your typical old school Chinese restaurant, just like the one you used to frequent when you where a tot, but now you can order your piña colada with actual liquor.

I love this restaurant. The staff is attentive yet slightly rude and sarcastic, kinda like me. The food is delicious and comes in nice big portions, definitely enough for two people to share a plate. The prices are reasonable and there is plenty of street parking. Way better than Chinese take out, go eat and be merry!!

  6. Nice place. We ordered a whole duck and some specialities on the secret menu. Peking roasted duck was rich in taste and also rich in calories. Lol

  7. This is one of my all-time favorite Chinese restaurants in NYC. Peking House has the rare combination of unpretentious, affordable, and most importantly, delicious. The service has been consistently attentive and efficient, and the decor and light classical music always puts me at ease after a hectic day. All the appetizers are all solid, and so are the main dishes, with a couple of standouts. The walnut shrimp, cashew chicken, and the eggplant are some of my family's favorites. They all match savory sauces with the perfect texture for each dish – tender chicken, crispy shrimp, and melt-in-your mouth (in a good way) eggplant. I really hope Peking continues to get love from the Fresh Meadows community and beyond. Always reliable for good food!

  8. If you want to eat Chinese fast food at 3 times the price, than this is the place for you. Why order General Tso Chicken for $14.00 when you could get it for under $10 two blocks down at Seven Stars.

Mostly every dish here is Chinese fast food style even if it doesn't sound like it. That means syrupy sweet sauces and deep fried proteins. My friend tried to order 椒子雞 and the waiter didn't even know what it was considering it was on the menu. They brought it out and it was completely different. A lesson we learned here was don't order non-Beijing style food at a restaurant named Peking house because their takes on Cantonese and Sichuan dishes were mediocre at best.

The only dish that was good was the Peking duck. Thank Buddha they didn't just serve a roast duck and called it Peking duck, yet I still question the authenticity. The dish was prepared pre-sliced so don't expect a show. A waiter brought out a plate of meat and crepes and made wraps on the spot. The skin was golden crispy and the meat was moist. Combined with some freshness from the spring onions and sweetness of the hoisin sauce, it was delicious. But for $30+, you only get enough meat for barely 8 wraps. For that price, give us the rest of the duck.

Maybe its the exotic factor or the neighborhood doesn't know better, but Peking House is your typical Chinese fast food restaurant in the disguise of something more elegant. The food is not awful because we all love a plate of sweet and sour pork or sesame chicken from time to time. But you are only fooling yourself with the premium you pay here.
