Sapienza Delicatessen & Restaurant
“I'm going to have to disagree with Lou and say this sandwich is better then Katz, at least from a price point perspective.”
“Wow a great deli that delivers.”
“parking seems to be the only issue, but outside of that best Pastrami in Queens, and hey also have an assortment of other sandwiches as well, I would avoid the salads though.”

Delivery here is always pretty quick. I like their breakfasts and bagels. Their sandwiches especially the Italian are always really fresh. They have awesome pastrami heros that I usually get with a little spicy mustard. Their heros are HUGE. Only thing I've had that isn't really great is their burgers. They tend to be a little dry. But their fries are always super crispy.
I was in the mood for a pastrami sandwich and checked yelp for some ideas not too far from home. The drive actually took a lot longer than I thought with all the traffic on Woodhaven Blvd to Crossbay Blvd. However, it was worth the commute coming from Forest Hills.
It was in the afternoon when i arrived and there were quite a few people sitting eating lunch. The deli was bigger than I expected. Vinny, the person who helped me behind the counter was very friendly towards me and other customers he engaged. It felt like a true neighborhood spot where the staff knew their regulars. Vinny let me try some of the pastrami that was light and tasty and hit the spot when I added some mustard. I loved that you can order half sandwiches which is what I ordered and one for my mom. I added cheese and mustard to both sandwiches which were very tasty and affordable for the amount of meat you get. Surprisingly, you had a choice of cole slaw, macaroni salad or potato salad. I chose the macaroni and potato and they were both delicious.
This is a spot I will definitely return to and check out some other menu items.
Good hot sandwiches here. Each time I head out to fish in the rockaways I always make sure I try and stop here for a fresh pastrami sandwich. I can eat off that thing for hours and hours, it never seems to end.
Stopped here to pick up something quick for breakfast.
The service was prompt and efficient. The staff was also friendly.
I ordered a toasted raisin bagel with cream cheese and it was everything that it should've been. The bagel was toasted just right on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. Next time I plan to try the pastrami.
I have been holding off on this review for a while as I have very mixed emotions about this sandwich shoppe.
The locals think it is the best thing since sliced bread. I will say it was good, but the best? No….
We had a family lunch here because all local parties sung its praises. After eating here, it wasn't a bad choice, but I don't think it was the best choice.
We had:
– Pastrami sandwich – tasty yes, better than Katz's or Second Avenue Deli or PJ Bernstein's? No.
– Bagels – good and chewy yes, but the best I had? No.
– Sausage & Peppers – good but again not the best.
– French fries – good but nothing to get crazy about.
The service is semi friendly – the staff is easily frustrated/overwhelmed. The seating area was freezing cold, we had to sit with our coats on. The restroom was out of order, which by building code means they shouldn't have even been open unless there was an employee restroom they weren't letting my very young daughter use……
Would I come back? Yes, if I am outvoted again.
