This restaurant is above all a great value. The portions are enormous. Dinners include: a platter with pickles, chick peas and cole slaw; a soup or salad; a main dish with a starch of your choice and a vegetable of your choice; a complimentary glass of California jug wine; a dessert. Oy vay, who can eat that much? Perry in person runs around the dining room to make sure that everyone is happy. The patrons, most of whom are card-carrying AARP members, have a great time. When the check comes, you wonder how things can possibly be that cheap.
The quality/price ratio is so high that you forget about the numerator of the fraction. The food is actually OK. It's worth making a small detour to visit Perry's.
I went with my wife to Perrys yesterday for dinner.We used to be regulars at Perrys when we lived in Brooklyn however we have not been there in over 10 years.When we entered Perry surprisingly recognized us and greeted us warmly. Our waitress Jen greeted us and gave us a starter of chick pea salad and cole slaw. Both were excellent especially the chick pea salad which is usually a throwaway at other restaurants. We then ordered two complete dinners which included two stuffed cabbages as appetizers and a matzo ball and clam chowder soup. The cabbages were quite good as was the soups although my soup was a little watery.We he ordered a chicken Francaise and turkey steak a la Perry for dinner. Both were very good and flavorful.We then had two pieces of cake which were very good especially my wifes sugar free black forest cake.Service by Jen was good in fact one oif the best servers I had in memory.She was concerned about everything we ate and gave us garlic bread and offered us other suggestions for add ons.She was very friendly and very responsive to our needs for dinner., Considering the amount and quality of food offered and the price of 16 a dinner the price to value ratio here is well above average for this type of restaurant.I felt like I was at home at Perrys and they say you cannot go back home but Perry proved this is not true. This all in all was a excellent experience and I look forward to returning in the near future.
This is my first time here. When my friend and I walked in, no one greeted us. A waitress was kinda rude and just said to sit anywhere but she followed us with menus. The booth we happened to stop at had a dead fly on it so we moved to another booth. We sat down and within a few minutes a waiter came to try to take our order. He didn't introduce himself and seemed to really want to take our order. We went for breakfast at 8:30am. The place is mostly senior citizens. We ordered almost everything on the menu (waffles with ice cream and strawberries, eggs, corned beef hash, sausage, bacon, home fries). I would say the food quality is ok, nothing spectacular. It's regular breakfast food. I didn't like the home fries though. They weren't as flavorful as I think it should have been and kinda soft. I think I would come back, not too sure.
Perry's is all about the customer. Recently I walked in at about 10:45 pm and asked how long they'd be serving. I was told that closing time is 11 pm but my group was welcome and the kitchen would make whatever we wanted. We only wanted dessert, and stayed maybe 45 minutes, and never felt rushed at all. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. There were a few tables still occupied and couple of other groups came in after us, and everyone was treated just as warmly. I'm not saying that we should all bother restaurant employees by making them work past closing time, but it's nice when a place is willing.
My companions loved their desserts. I asked the waitress if there was anything dairy and egg-free, and she showed me the "dietetic": a sugar-free strudel-like apple cake. It was delicious. Great with tea & lemon. Yay, I found a good vegan dessert in the neighborhood!
Not the biggest fan.
To their defence, the crowd in the restaurant was super rude and obnoxious… It was like every table screaming. When paying, a patron got into a fight with the cashier and it delayed us leaving and paying for no reason.
Karaoke was obnoxiously loud. Food was, OK.
The only thing that I enjoyed was our server was extremely nice.
Probably won't ever go again, with that said, I think my horrible experience was a once in a blue moon
Well it's not exactly a restaurant, it's pretty much a diner. SO with that being said let's make sure no one gets their expectations too high.
Don't come here and order pasta or some fancy seafood dish, hold on to your American needs and order the Texas Burger.
