New Kissena used to be "Good Century" and I've been a patron for nearly 15 years. There's nothing "special" about this takeout restaurant, but their General Tso's has consistently been one of the best I've had, and the manager is friendly and hilarious
Fresh Fried Bird made to order.
This Chinese takeout/bubble tea joint has no A/C. The workers looked miserable, especially slaving over that fiery wok over this unforgiving summer heat. Despite the sauna like working conditions, the owner was really polite and affable.
I got half-fried chicken w/brown rice, hot wings, and a side of tostones/fried green plantains.
The fried chicken wasn't overly salty and sort of reminded me of 'Roy Rogers' with a Chinese twist. The brown rice tasted quality, definitely better than the brown rice they give you at King Chef in the Pathmark shopping center.
The hot wings were a little disappointing. The chicken wings would have been much better undressed with the salty version of General Tso's they slathered on em. I wish I had ordered my chicken wings plain.
The tostones were made to order, and were delicious and plentiful.
Would I come back?…yeah maybe if I'm in the neighborhood, but not something I'll crave and have continuous dreams about it. Better than average Chinese fast food fried chicken but no wow factor.
The workers here are really nice and know my family after ordering since we moved to Flushing years ago.
It's a no frills American Chinese food and it's good. There's a reason why this place is still going strong after a bunch of other businesses in the block closed down. My brother really likes this place for the sweet and sour chicken but whenever we order, I get the sesame chicken. Gets me right there. 🙂
In my books, Chinese takeout is not Chinese food, rather it's American food. Due to that, I normally don't compare takeout places in the same caliber as I would an actual Chinese place that's say… in Flushing. Hence, this place would have been eligible for a 4 star rating had I rated 4-5 years ago. There's just something off about their food recently. I'll continue to order take out from this place simply because they're in my neighborhood and only because I need sustenance, not because it's super good.
