What can be better than a restaurant where you can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner all in one place? Everyone in our group liked it so much that we came back again the next day! The menu is so extensive that everyone is sure to find something that satisfies their cravings. Be prepared to wait for a table but it is definitely worth your time!
Tops Diner never disappoints. I went here for brunch with a couple of my friends today. We were greeted at the door by a young lady who seemed to be having a bad day based on her facial expression. Initially she walked us over to a table, however my friend requested as she placed our menus on the table to be seated at a booth. She mumbled under her breath, "I don't think any of the booths are clean." However as soon as we walk back towards the front she quickly makes a right and seats us appropriately where there are several booths open. She clearly had an affect where she seemed like she didn't want to be there or didn't enjoy her job (that day).
After being seated, we were greeted by a pleasant waitress (Esmeralda) I believe who was. Pleasant and timely with our food. I had an egg white omelet with home fries and multi grain pancakes. The whole meal was delicious and I left there feeling full and satisfied. There isn't anything I've ever had on the menu that I did not enjoy. Would've given five stars if it weren't for the lack luster hostess.
Came here for brunch on MDW. They were super on point with their wait times, I got seated within the guaranteed time of 25 mins. They text you when your table is ready so you can wander outside and hang.
I got the corn beef hash with poached eggs because they wouldn't allow me to get the eggs Benedict with a sub of corn beef hash because of the price difference even though all their other bennys were with pork and I'm not a pork eater. So it would have costed me like 18.50$ for a benny, which was a bit shitty in my opinion.
The food was ok. I wasn't crazy about it. The corn beef was decent, not too salty. But it wasn't anything I would rave about either. My SO got the farmers wrap and again it was decent.
Food is def a but pricy but it was worth a try. I'll def eat here again if I was in the area. Wouldn't drive out my way or anything.
Went to Tops with a party of 16 and managed to get seated in about 1/2 hour on a Saturday evening so the turn over there is pretty rapid. Our food came quickly and our waiter Andy was great. He was a pro with 16 women's MANY requests and selection modifications. Everything came as requested which is a testament to how well their kitchen is run. All the food was really good. The only criticism would be the pasta dishes overall were all cooked way past al dente. Not mushy enough to be destroyed but clearly way over cooked. Portions are large enough to share and prices very reasonable. Well worth the stop and wait if they are busy.
Always a fun experience. Food is delicious and abundant. A little high prices but considering the amount of food you get, it is 2 dinners worth of food. I LOVED the ceviche. The braised short ribs sandwich could have been better, so could the fries.
Service. Value. Quality. Tops get top marks on all three.
I'm usually not a diner fan, mainly because I feel there are often better quality at non-diner establishments at around the same price point. However, I would have to say that Tops is outside the norm in that regard.
I have been here a couple times, and they are extremely consistent in all three areas.
Service is prompt and effective once you're seated. The food offering is of the usual diner array, but what sets them about from others is the flavor.
Nothing is overly greasy where it shouldn't be. The salt profile is not overwhelming like many other diners out there. The food preparation is on point. I ordered various chicken and protein entrees, and both taste and texture are well above average. (Once again, using other diners as benchmarks.)
They also have lunch specials prices in the teens that comes with soup choices. The portion on these are phenomenal.
Haven't been here on the weekend due to the distance from home, but may well consider it in the near future.
Tops Diner in Newark NJ is what every diner in the country strives for- they have set the bar high (literally and figuratively – you have to step up to sit at the bar) for diner style comfort food, healthy salads, awesome cakes and pies, sandwiches so thick you have to cut them in half width wise to fit in your mouth so as not to dislocate your jaw. Being raised in NJ to experience Tops Diner on numerous occasions and now living in South Florida, I can not understand why Denny's even calls itself a Diner or why Jason's even thinks it's a Deli- you want to see what a deli and a diner on steroids looks like- then visit Tops. The service is fast efficient and smart- don't know how they can memorize a 100 item menu – not counting a dozen daily specials. It took me 30 minutes to make a decision- I wanted everything. I settled on a combo sandwich- corned beef and pastrami on marbled rye bread with melted Swiss cheese and spicy mustard. Came with a side of Cole slaw and a choice of fries or side salad. In an effort to convenience my daughter that I am not allergic to the color green- I chose the side salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar- great choice! I had to stand up to take this picture or else the sandwich would not fit in the frame! The only thing this experience was missing was having my four legged furry son at my feet to share some of that spiced meat- I felt irresponsibly gluttonous eating it all!
Me and my girlfriend came here one day since we were in the area and super hungry as usual! I DID NOT know what I was getting myself into. There was a 20 minute wait for a diner. I thought well this is weird? How could that be? Then I turned my gaze to their wall inside and I saw all the awards that they were given like NJs Best Diner! I couldn't believe it! It made me so excited because I now I understood why it was so popular! The music was great too, very upbeat music (almost like a club) and when we sat down we were given our menus. Now let me tell you, the menu was ginormous! I simply could not focus on just one food item! I went for something simple…a lamb gyro, while my girlfriend ordered a tuna appetizer and quesadillas. I wasn't expecting anything extraordinary…but wow did this place blow me away. The food was so fresh, my pita was so soft…Every bite was incredible and sent me on a trip to heaven. My friend's food was just as good. Our waitress was such a sweetheart too! WELL DONE TOPS DINER CONGRATULATIONS!
