Very nice place. We just stumbled on this place for a Sunday Brunch and was pleased with our choice. you have the option of inside and outside setting which is nice as well. I order the hanger steak (med well) with my eggs a lil runny however my steak well done and my eggs were fried hard. Although it wasn't what I wanted the food was still good. I don't have any complaints about this place.
This quaint little addition to the neighborhood will be well received by many (maybe not the French restaurant down the block that now has competition) but by many. Speaking as not only a greedy person but as someone that likes variety of sorts, there is room at this inn Mary so relax. My friend had the lamb burger with the goat cheese and said that it was delicious beyond her wildest imagination. I, not being as hungry this go round, had instead the French Onion Soup. It was beautiful but they need a hint more of salt for my own personal preference. Perhaps others love it because of the thick and gooey cheese bread melted on top. To which I say, good reason. But this is tiny thing did not derail from how wonderful the food was, the environment, and the great cocktail with elderflowers. Thank you for relocating from the overly pricey Fort Greene. Yay Bed Stuy or should I start calling us Tiny Paris. 😉
I came to Chez Oskar because it was recommended to me from someone who's come there a lot and spoke very highly of it. It was a Sunday, so my boyfriend and I decided to try it for brunch. We got there and didn't have a reservation, but it was good because when we got there their was no wait. They had indoor and outdoor seating, but we sat inside because it was kinda cold. The decor in there is sooo cute, it had a very antique like vibe, I loved it.
Our waitress was nice, she came over and gave us menus and we ordered some drinks. As a entree I ordered the eggs which came with fries and a side salad, and my boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich that came with fries. The food was pretty good, but the entree sizes were not big at all, so they weren't plentiful. They don't offer an unlimited option or a discounted price for cocktails at brunch time which kinda sucked. Because of the entree size and not having a cocktail options, I don't think I would come back for brunch. I would consider coming back for dinner, maybe those entrees would be bigger.
Chez oskar is an oldie but goodie used as a set for many an indie film slash neighborhood brunch standby that cutely calls itself Le Funky Bistro slash perfect go to spot after an hour or so at Fort Greene park with your toddler.
The latter description was the reason we visited Le funky bistro during the summer. Exhaustion had taken over me. I was in need of "snack", something to drink of course, and he a pick me up after all that trike riding, and a place to potty of course.
The super fine people at Chez Oskar were good enough to let us in, despite preparing to close for a private event. We promised that it would just be snacks and it was. One fruit salad and two glasses of wine later and we were ready to leave comfy Chez Oskar to head back to our heavy heat reality.
Maybe I should stop going to restaurants on opening night because it's always hectic and supplies dwindle quickly, as they didn't accurately anticipate supply and demand.
But anyway, I was too excited for a new restaurant in my neighborhood so I went on opening night. We were hoping to sit at the bar, but it only seats two and those spots were taken. We were told it was a 35 minute wait for a table and decided to stay.
While we waited, we ordered two glasses of the Bordeaux. They only had enough for one glass (2 hours into opening).
We were seated quickly. But menus and water took 20 minutes.
Ordering another 10.
I ordered the mussels, which were good but a little pricey for the portion (although, for $2 more on Tuesdays they offer all you can eat).
He ordered the spicy goat cheese lamb burger. They were out of goat cheese and subbed with mozzarella. The meat was very well seasoned and well cooked, but mozzarella is no substitute for goat cheese in this scenario.
They dropped our check when we had full glasses of wine, which felt a bit rude and rushy. But then again, with how long each step of the process took, we were finished by the time we signed.
I'll go back in a few weeks and see if things have improved.
First time here to wish a friend farewell on her journey out of Brooklyn. My kiddo had a kids burger which was really big and pretty good. I had the chicken stew 1/2 order and it was relish. The wine was nice. Drinks are all $10 or $12 It seemed. The place had a great atmosphere and the staff were all very attentive and nice. Will return.
A very cute looking place (perhaps cuter than most in this neighborhood) with a Tuesday AYCE moules frites special. Came early on a weeknight and were seated quickly. Outdoor seating is a must during the summer, since al fresco dining, you get to dine under the shelter of patio umbrellas, while you're treated to the sights and sounds of the neighborhood around you, including the basketball courts across the street. You can hear the PA announce the play-by-play during kids league play.
Ordered a lamburger and was impressed. It was seasoned well and cooked just right. It also came with a side of salad and fries. The drink/cocktail, French 75 was equally refreshing. Indoors belies a far more intimate date night space for ambiance that anyone can adore. Will return to try the rest of the menu. 4.4/5.0
After working only a block from here for nearly a year and seeing it on an episode of TLC's Return to Amish, I finally made some time to stop in…and boy was I happy we did! This is a cozy, funky french restaurant with a nicely decorated interior, cozy bar, and ample seasonal sidewalk seating. They accept open table reservations which is a plus in the winter months when the small dining area gets crowded. They also are on seamless if you don't want to leave the comfort of your apartment but do want to enjoy some delicious food. As for the food, I am in love with the coq au vin and the mushroom risotto…both are out of this world! They have smaller portions for both as well (the bartender told us to ask as they aren't both on the menu) if you want to try each or want a small bite. They have a live music schedule if that's up your alley, as well as some nightly specials (all you can eat mussels on Tuesday, discounted wine on Wednesdays).
An FYI, some weekend evenings they have a burlesque dancer performer that arrives around 9…we haven't been there for this but probably good to keep in mind if you'll be dining at this time with a more conservative crowd! It's well advertised (both outside the restaurant and on the table signs).
