When this Popeye's opened I was hopeful. Flushing is crazy packed with people and I didn't one of my favorite chain restaurants to get caught up in the mess we call Flushing. Hazzah! They are clean and fast! I love stopping here to grab my chicken strips when as another reviewer put it: you get tired of the chinese food. There is always a free table and there's a restroom. However I don't recommend using it as I have witnessed many a random non-popeye's patron making a visit.
The service varies from "I don't care about you" to "Hurry up and move to the side"- which is fine with me. Just give me my chicken and we're good.
Yay! A Popeyes opened up on Main Street! My sister got takeout and brought it home.
FOOD
Fries – Chewy and dry with distinct flavor.
Fried Chicken – Very crunchy skin. A bit flavorless.
Spicy Fried Chicken – Perfectly seasoned, flavorful, and the right amount of crispiness.
Mac and Cheese – tastier than Boston Market somehow.
Coleslaw – less tart, more creamy and sweet.
Fast service, average food, average price, disgusting bathroom.
If you're going to eat here, make sure to look at the deals by the entrance rather than the menu by the cash register, so you can get the most chicken for your buck(I.e. 3 piece chicken for $3.59)
First off I love Popeye's and it is probably not fair to judge it from one visit during their "Payday" special but the chicken tasted oily and soggy as if they threw it into the fryer before the oil could reach the optimal frying temperature.
I have eaten Popeye's chicken before and love it. This location is clean albeit small.
Minus one star though for not having parking, soggy oily chicken for the busiest day of the year and holding the line up because they ran out of white meat chicken when they had two large trays of dark meat sitting up under the hot lamps. SORRY POPEYE's BUT I love you though!!!
Any other day they always get 4 stars for me…no matter which location. I love Popeye's.
There's only one, maybe two, Popeye's locations that I have been to that doesn't give me the dingy, trashy feeling of a chain seating decor. This location is no exception of that statement. I mean it's clean with ample table seating. The restroom is clean also. But for what it is worth, someimes I just get a craving for that crisp shell on their fried chicken. But if they ONLY served their mashed potatoes with the gravy, I would come for that alone because that I like more than the chicken. I use their plastic spork to spread that stuff on a biscuit like cream cheese on a bagel. Whatever bacon flavor, herbs, veggies or chicken leftovers used in their gravy make it like butter. Popeye's = Butter! This place makes the gravy a littler thicker than other locations I been but the flavor is like all the others, like butter.
And it's back to being awful again. Always this place and their fried chicken. So inconsistent. Just when I think you got ur act together. The betrayal hurts so deep. I got the 11 piece since they got rid of the 13 piece deal. Planned to have it in the house because when you are having a drink, who doesn't want a fried chicken. It tasted disgusting today to the point that I was considering no more fried chicken as my new years resolution.
