  1. We flew into EWR from Aruba. Since our airline didn't feed us and we only had a small meal before we boarded our flight, I was hungry! We had about an hour to catch our connecting flight, so we were actually looking for fast food. We couldn't find any fast food joints, so the roommate just picked Philly Cheesesteaks. It was Thursday, September 24th a little after 8pm. We grabbed the food for take out to bring on the plane.

*Pepper steak ($9.79): grilled beef, red and green peppers, provolone
*Pizza steak sandwich ($8.99): beef, mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce
    *Tater tots ($3.75)
*Cheese crinkle fries ($4.50), add Bacon (+$1)

My sandwich was the pepper steak. The filling was okay. I wish they had melted the cheese on the meat instead of the bread as the bread was super dry. I took one bite and just discarded the bread. I also tried the roommate's pizza steak. It wasn't as dry as it had sauce, but the flavor was very one note. At least mine had the peppers for contrast.

The thing that saved this meal were the sides. The tater tots and cheese fries were both yummy! The tots were crispy and seasoned well. The wiz on the fries was oeey, gooey and super comforting. I really enjoyed both.

So basically, stay away from the cheese steaks! There's a burger spot right next to this which looked a lot more promising, but unfortunately we didn't notice it until we placed our order at Philly Cheesesteaks. I suggest you go there for a burger and grab your fries and tots from here. No one likes super dry sandwiches right?!

  2. Really looked promising but came up mighty short. Times like this you have to roll the dice. As living in Canada I had Data off on my IPhone and Newark airport being Newark the WIFI was not able to connect so I came into here blind.  I ordered a beefsteak w provolone, onions, peppers and lettuce. Sandwich was somewhat greasy yet lacked any flavour. like a really bad cheesesteak that was bland like hospital food. Someone please for the life of me tell the kitchen to add a bit of salt n pepper and some spices man! It's not rocket science. Also a bit of hot sauce could go a long way but there was none available.

Please do yourself a favour and eat at one of the many burger joints at EWR in one of the many terminals. Don't eat here's it looks good but There is no discernible flavour.

  3. Total grease bomb. But you knew that before you didn't get the salad next door.

  4. I never have high hopes for airport food.  I really, truly don't.  But sometimes setting the bar low isn't enough.  Sometimes, there are situations that are so annoying that you'd rather starve than submit to them.

I stopped by this cheesesteak place before a flight to LAX, after negotiating with myself that I wouldn't survive the 6 hour flight without food.  The only positive part of this experience came right at the beginning.  The restaurant has a greeter who shows you how to use the self order machines.  I've met her before at the airport and she is super nice.

I ordered a Philly cheesesteak and cheese fries.  Simple enough, right?  I get back to my table, open it up, and it's a chicken cheesesteak.  OK, no big deal, I'll just go tell them.

When I informed them of the issue and simply asked for a new one (very politely, especially since I was two hours early for my flight) the cook looked at me and said "OK, but you ordered that".  I said "no, I'm sorry, I ordered a Philly cheesesteak.  This seems to be chicken".  She then responded "NO, you didn't, you ordered chicken".  She then snatched the cheesesteak out of my hand and made me a new one.  Super rude.

When I got back to my table, I consulted my receipt.  She was wrong, I DID order the steak.  Additionally, she used the wrong cheese when she remade it, but honestly I wasn't going to go back up there.

Onto the food – cheesesteak: super fatty and practically inedible.   Fries – appeared to be of the frozen variety.  Crinkle cut and tasteless; the cheese on top was congealed.

Needless to say, when I touched down in LAX, I made a beeline to Wolfgangs to nourish myself.  Skip this cheesesteak place – unless your only other option is Custom Burger – then, maybe do it anyway.  Ugh.

  5. 1/2 star for effort and 1/2 for the fries.  I got off the plane hungry and needed something to eat. The photos looked mighty delicious but came up short. The bread was not toasted well and meat was burnt. I watched the grill master put little effort into cooking the sandwich. From that moment, I already knew that it was going to be a bad sandwich.

The fries were edible. If you want to eat at the New Jersey airport, it is quite expensive for what is offered. Be-careful and confident about what you want before making the purchase.

  6. I feel like eating at an airport food court is a 50/50 win or lose.  Unfortunately this place was a total thumbs down.  I ordered the chicken mushroom cheese steak.  Chicken was dry, not even warm  enough to melt the American cheese…Philly cheesesteak with solid cheese ick…bread on the cool side of course.  I won't be coming here again.

  7. One of the few dining options at the airport. Took a long time for them to make the cheesesteak. It was at least a 10 minute wait. The cheesesteak was delicious though! Only thing holding this back from a higher rating is the wait (this is an airport I need my food fast), and the fact that for a "foot long" there's really not as much meat as you'd expect.

  8. Steak sandwich isn't as bad as they say, it's okay for the most part. I wouldn't say it's a must try, it should do the trick if that's what your in the mood for.
