  1. Well, decided to give this place another try on Columbus Day. And the only reason was because my boyfriend & I drove around to several other diners & all were way overcrowded, I guess, due to the holiday. No wait here! In fact, there were several open tables! Again, no host was there waiting to greet & seat & this time there were a few people in line waiting to pay. It's all very odd to me…
A waiter ended up seating us. And then he was gone for awhile… Finally he showed up to ask about drinks. I ordered coffee & my boyfriend asked for a large tomato juice. Since we were waiting awhile before his reappearance we already knew our order. I ordered a Reuben (panini is how it's listed) w/sweet potato fries & my boyfriend got a breakfast plate consisting of 2 eggs, bacon, french fries & toast.
Waited awhile before the drinks arrived. But before that the waiter came over to tell me they didn't have sweet potato fries. I asked for mashed potato. He had to check if they had that… hmmmm… ok…
I was really hoping my coffee would come before the food since I wasn't having breakfast. So the drinks finally made it but my boyfriend got a large glass half full with tomato juice. The waiter explained that they ran out of tomato juice & this was the last of it so he would only charge him for a small. We just looked at each other like… huh? And then he gone! We couldn't figure out why the waiter didn't just inform him that there wasn't enough juice for a full glass. My boyfriend said he may have changed the order to orange or apple juice so he could have a large FULL glass of juice. ……. sigh ……..
Then the food arrived. I ended up with a Reuben on a hero NOT the panini as stated on the menu. I also asked for a large side of thousand island. I got a tiny side. As the waiter was putting down the plates I muttered something about the sandwich being on hero bread (question mark) but he totally ignored me. As soon as he put down the plates he was in motion to run off again but before he got the chance I (barely) asked "can I please have butter (for mashed) & extra dressing. I really felt like I wanted to scream "CAN YOU FUCKING WAIT ONE MINUTE??"! I was going to order a soda but Speedy Gonzalez left in a flash so I didn't get a chance. This guy was running like a chicken without a head & the place was fairly empty. My boyfriend & I commented that we'd hate to see this place on a BUSY day. It just felt so chaotic for no good reason! I really didn't care for this waiter. He wasn't rude, but I felt like he just didn't want to be bothered. He never once came back to see if we were ok or if we needed anything. There was another guy walking around & around whom I thought may have been a manager. I didn't see him serving food. Then my boyfriend spotted a chef walking around. What a friggin weird & unsettling atmosphere this place had! The whole experience made me feel uncomfortable more than anything! I can't really explain it…
The food wasn't bad or anything. Surprisingly, my sandwich was ok considering that's the first time I've seen a Reuben prepared like this. It usually comes on nice well toasted bread. This wasn't the best but it wasn't terrible either. The coffee was the best I've had from any of the Queens diners to date! Even better than Cornerstone had. The decor is nice & the diner has a really nice layout. There's just something about the staff & maybe the inexperienced feeling we got that bothered us!
When the waiter came back at the end I just asked him to wrap the rest of my food & bring the check. The kicker now…. my boyfriend's full plate of food cost LESS money than the 2 egg sandwich I got to go at my last visit. His was a little over $8.00 for a full breakfast! I paid over $9 bucks for 2 eggs over medium with ham & cheese on a roll. Unfuckingbelieveable!! My advice to Dolphin Diner… figure it out and FAST! Get some people in there with experience or you ain't gonna be around for long. That's my gut instinct… could be wrong but could be right!
