I've been here a few times and they're salads are pretty impressive – they have a good variety and the salads are huge. Was here recently with a friend and I ordered the Reuben. He originally asked for a Cuban sandwich when our waitress gave him this puzzled face and asked "What's that?". Um…ok, so he orders a panini with cheese/gravy fries. Our food comes after a not too long wait and my Reuben is piled high with pastrami – but no russian dressing. It was pretty dry. My friend got what looked to be 2 slices of square mozzarella cheese on his fries, and no gravy. I'm thinking maybe its because of the lunchtime rush that things came out half assed, as other times when its pretty dead, we get better results.
Met a client here for coffee last week. They kept the coffee coming when my breakfast companion was late. I tried the oatmeal and it was typical diner oatmeal-yummy.
I look forward to coming back to try the pancakes!
It's like most diners you would attend, they served good breakfast. I truly enjoyed the freshly squeezed orange juice in the mini juice jugs. Plus, the price point was GREAT! The wait staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating.
The food here is quintessential Jersey diner. Almost all seats are booths, the coffee is fresh and the service is quick and efficient. For egg dishes, the home fries are shoestring cut potatoes. They advertise the World's best Pancakes and while they are good, they aren't as cake-like as Brownstone. Overall good food, good portions and good service.
No wow factor in the Broadway Diner cuisine. Food is pretty bland, salad bar left much to be desired, but the staff was very nice. Conveniently located a block away from the turnpike entrance but can't say I'm a fan.
I don't go to diners for seafood, steaks, meatloaf, triple decker sandwiches or mile high pies. For me, there is only one meal to be had-Lox and onion omelette, well done home fries and rye toast with a good cup of coffee. I've had this very same meal at dozens of diners throughout New Jersey. From the horrifically bad to mighty fine.
Our meal here was excellent. Great omelette, coffee and rye toast. Shredded hash browns were good but not my favorite. Our server was very friendly, outstanding even.
We will definitely be back. Great diner!
I was in the mood for a good salad and decided to ordered one from here. I have to say the portions are very small and the salad was okay at best. I also got to try their turkey dinner and the only good part was the gravy. My order was to go so I cant comment on service since I didn't eat there.
Maybe next time I will come for pancakes since that's what they are known for.
I used to love the Broadway diner, back when service was great. Prices have gone up, service has deteriorated. It's usually quicker and much cheaper to go get takeout from a bagel place or DD than to come here, but sometimes you want to sit and shoot the breeze. Like all diners, this is the place for that.
When I first started coming here it was a smoke-infested den of oddities. I wouldn't go except with my Thursday night after-work crew, and that ended when a bunch of us left that job. When NJ passed the indoor smoking ban I was elated. I could finally eat without someone dangling ashes in my food. It was then that I returned to the Broadway.
They do make great pancakes, and their wraps are good. Their Monday night buffet is a little on the paltry & starchy side. The classic diner waitresses have been replaced with a younger generation who don't seem to know how to balance their customers' needs. Gone are the ladies with beehive hairdos who called everyone hon and could get everyone's order down pat.
Alas, it's not special anymore, but it is a diner, and it fits the diner niche nicely.
