  1. I'm so disappointed with the order that I received last night (delivery).  I ordered the biftekia plate and my friend had the chicken gyro with fries.  I've frequented a ton of Greek places in Astoria over the course of several years while living here and never have I seen biftekia made of anything but BEEF.  My order of biftekia looked like thin slices of a long, dry meatloaf.  I thought to myself, ok it looks a little different than what I'm used to but maybe it tastes the same.  As soon as I took one bite I knew it was lamb and not beef.  I don't eat lamb at all so that was completely ruined.  I feel like a place should absolutely specify what kind of meat is used in a dish if it deviates from the norm.  Had I known the biftekia was lamb I wouldn't have ordered it.  Also, it was more similar to sliced cuts from the spinning meat stick than meat patties like biktekia is supposed to be.  I couldn't eat my meal and ended up giving it to my friend.  We were starving and it was too late to call it in and ask for a replacement.

My friend's chicken gyro platter had pieces of dry, grilled chicken mixed in with his soggy fries.  What the heck?  Who the heck mixes in the fries with the meat?!?!?  He had to literally eat forkfuls of chicken along with the fries because it would have taken forever to separate them.  Absolutely zero thought went into our dishes.  It is baffling how terrible our meals were.  I don't even want to get into the weird runny consistency of the tzazitki sauce.  I think the only thing that was decent was the free Greek salad that came with both of our dishes.

  2. Went here for lunch, the portions are pretty big! Fresh hot pita was delicious with the hummus, spicy feta, and eggplant dip! Lots to choose from with a mix of comfort food and Greek/ Mediterranean food. Semi-large menu with basically boils down to a lot of variations of basic things – so don't get overwhelmed. They also offer fresh lemonade and ice tea.

  3. Zorba's is a great, family owned, authentic Greek spot. And in Astoria where there are hundreds of other Greek spots, this one always stands out. No matter what you get here, you won't be disappointed. Order a salad, gyro, pikilia, dinner platter-you can't go wrong. Service is good and your wallet won't hurt. I've been a fan for so many years, renovation or not. Keep up the great work!

  4. The donner on a pita is super tasty and the spicy feta dip is awesome. They have great pita and the staff is friendly.

I love that they have outdoor seating.

  5. I came here on two occasions, once for breakfast food and another time for a chicken kebab pita.  The breakfast was not bad but nothing jumped out relative to a diner or brunch place.  The pita was on par with some street vendors in the area in my opinion. It's a big place with a vast food selection. The service was good and I found the prices to be average.  The three stars fits my experience very well.

  6. The difference between Zorba's and other multitude of Greek places in the area is that it satisfies the cheap, quick, large potions, no frills kind of meal. In good weather, you can also sit outside which is quite nice.

You can get a platter if you are hungry or do a la carte to pick and choose your skewers and sides. The sampler plate is a good way to try everything and it is portioned for two. Everything is very fresh and well prepared. The plates come with a Greek salad to start. The sides are really good especially their lemon potatoes.

The service is great, efficient, and with a smile.

  7. This is a solid choice if you're hankering for some Mediterranean and don't want to break the bank. Zorba's has a family-owned, casual diner feel, perfect if you're looking for a no frills kind of meal. And honestly, this place doesn't need frills, the food speaks for itself.

I just moved to the neighborhood and have been looking new spots to add to the rotation. Definitely made the right choice. Came here on a weeknight with friend, and I initially wanted to dine al fresco on the tables outside, but it was bit chilly so we sat indoors. The waitress/host was so pleasant and friendly as she took our orders — exactly what you expect from this type of mom and pop establishment.

Before I get to the food, I need to mention that beers here are DIRT CHEAP – $3.50 for domestics and $4.00 for imports. I can't remember the last time I spent less than $5 for a beer at a restaurant. Made me question if I really was in NYC… Anyway, my friend and I decided to split a small greek salad to start, and then go halfsies with the gyro pita and souvlaki pita. The greek salad was on point – very fresh veggies, perfectly dressed, and quality feta on top. As for the pitas, both we're equally tasty. The gyro meat was juicy and well-seasoned, while the souvlaki was tender and really flavorful. The pita bread was okay, maybe just a tad dried out. Overall, the sandwiches totally hit the spot.

The final bill for the two of us came out to $30. I mean c'mon…just $15/person for a beer and that amount of delicious food? I'll take that 8 days a week.

  8. This is a local fast favorite of ours in Astoria. I really like their plates (especially the pork donor) that comes with pita bread, a Greek salad and a choice of side – the lemon potatoes are pretty good)! Sometimes it can be hit or miss, but for the price, it's a great deal. It's also one of the fastest deliveries that I've experienced. If you're looking for pretty good Greek food at a reasonable price and want to avoid the long lines of Kyclades, this is the place to go.
