My first time dining at an actual Panda Express. It is a welcome addition to the neighborhood for quick, affordable, and overall good lunch.
The lines have been long but they are fast moving- it is a fast food joint after all.
Ordering consists of choosing the type of meal you would like (bowl, plate, etc). Select your entree and side.
I like having the option of choosing more than 1 entree and having the option to split the side.
The broccoli beef and kung pao chicken were good. I opted to split my side between the steamed vegetables and steamed white rice. Was not a fan of the side- vegetables tasted like the frozen variety and the rice was hard. Would forgo the side next time.
The beverages are self- serve and come from a digital Pepsi machine where you have the option of adding syrup or choosing diet or non-soda options.
The staff were friendly and the establishment was clean.
Will definitely be back.
I was doing a count down waiting for the day Panda Express has there grand opening at 51th Street and 3rd Avenue.
Not that I'm into what some people may consider as fake Chinese food, so then if it's fake then why am I going there an reviewing them ? Well a Yelper has to do what a Yelper has to do, and that's do reviews right? And this is my home office turf and I can't let some carpet bag Yelper come down my way and review them before me, can I , nope!
Plus I wanted my TriYelpFecta – first to check-in, first to tip, and first to review, BOOYA….!!!
No need for me camp out in front of the place overnight for two or three days before they open like if this was 'Saturday Night Live' I got a bird's eye view from my Office and will pounce on this place as soon as I spot the door opening. I when It did I was first in line, I was the lucky guy that the new trained Panda staff was going to use as their Guinea Pig and test there soy sauce cooking skill on. Ya Baby.
Well I went in and ordered.Fried Rice and Broccoli Beef for $7.80 + tax. The rice which has carrots, peas and micro size bits of egg was real bland but the beef has a lot of ginger soy sauce so when you mix it up you have a tasty but overly sweet meal. But I like sweet so I was OK but I can see others not liking it. The broccoli was firm and not soggy.
I just needed something salty afterwards and got some chips to counter balance the sweet. I would go back and try some of the other items on the menu when I need something fast or I want to save a few dollars on my meal.
After I got to the Office and told my buddies about the Grand Opening they now wanted to go too, so we all went and now the line is out the door but moving fast. When I was little my Mom told me 'No Comer Con Los Ojos' , 'Don't Eat With Your Eyes' but thats is exactly what I did, and I order again almost the same thing, but this time I went for Fried Rice and Broccoli Beef and Chow Main with Orange Chicken all together. Add on's are only a $1 more and you can get a i/2 and 1/2 for the same price so now I only payed $8.80 + tax and have 4 things on my plate plus a Fortune Cookie.
Now the Orange Chicken coating is almost crispy and has a little sting to it. And the Chow Main which is thin noodles and chopped vegetable had more flavors than the rice. I didn't want to eat it all so I made a bunch of sample plates in the office for others to try.
I would say that some of the food is tasty but not really good,. Panda Express is like Chinese McDonald's but I did like I can do 1/2 mix and extras for $1 so it's a good deal for the money.
