Came here Sunday evening after the Greek Independence Day parade in the city. My friends and I were sure it was gonna be packed..and upon arrival, yeah..it was bustling with people. But apparently one of my friends knows the owner Ari, very well and he worked some of his magic and got us a table for 4, about five mins later. Sweet.
We ordered three hummus – 2 butternut squash & 1 caramelized onion – a beef & lamb gyro for me, 5 grilled feta (for the 2 Greeks & 1 Italian at the table), and a burger.
At one point, while waiting for our food, I looked around and noticed that, besides the cashier, I was the ONLY other Asian in there.. Loll But as Ari proclaimed, today, everyone is Greek!! 😀
Food arrived a few mins later. First was the fresh hummus & pita bread. Delicious, warm pita topped with some hummus! #Foodgasm The waitress brought us like 3-4 platters of pita; devoured all of them, and wiped the 3 bowls of hummus clean! loll
But by the time my gyro and my friend's burger came, we were too full of pita, to finish our entrees. So we took half of them to go. BUT, we still had room for their amazing dessert, Authentic Greek Yogurt w/ assorted toppings (We always have room for dessert!). I had the pistachio, chocolate & honey and my friend had his favorite, the Smores w/ chocolate sauce. Delicious, light, airy, not overly sweet and very healthy!
All in all, another superb meal at Kalamaki! 😀
Kalamaki GR is very convenient for delivery. On a Sunday afternoon we ordered a Horiatiki salad with gyro meat, a Prasini Salad, and a small gyro. We were happy with everything and the service was fast and friendly!
When you walk into Kalamaki, you're treated like you're part of this great big Greek family! Ari, the owner greets us with a warm handshake and always makes sure we are taken care of and have a great time in his place. He's usually on the floor in front of the kitchen making sure all the dishes come out right and moving things along. The rest of the staff are buzzing around taking orders, serving food and keeping your drinks filled.
Get the multiple hummus spreads! The garlic & caramelized onion hummus is phenomenal! A close second and third are the roasted red pepper and sundried tomato. Put a dollop on a toasted pita quarter, smush it around and savor. You'll cry when you get to the bottom of the plate! (But ask for more pita if you run out) The salads are excellent also, plus you can ramp them up to a full meal by adding any of the grilled meats (pork or chicken kalamaki, donner or gyro…)
We always do family style and the Mixed Grill Platter is made to order with just about every grilled meat on the menu and then some piled high on a plate. A half a rotisserie chicken, skewers of pork & chicken kalamaki, bifteki, donner & gyro are all in there. The half chicken is amazingly moist and flavorful, but my only complaint is that it's on the scrawny side. You also get a heaping plate of pita and tzatziki to go with it. Add on sides of lemon potatoes and rice and it's a hefty meal. Though on a particular night we were extra hungry and got the Giaourtlou "Politico". A strangely named dish of beef & lamb meatballs on a bed of yogurt tomato sauce & pita. I'll have to ask Ari the meaning of the name the next time. Very tasty and a little on the heavy side, but did I mention that there was pita bread?
I'm not a fan of Greek yogurt, but my wife wanted to try the Hazelnut, Pineapple, Coconut & Agave Nectar yogurt. We also got the Smores yogurt. Though the toppings were fresh and sweet, I was not a fan mixing it up with the the savory yogurt. I'd much rather have my yogurt topping my meat for dessert!
Awesome spot for Greek Food. My group of six arrived on a Monday afternoon and had no problem with getting seated. They have a little garden section that was secluded and perfect for us. The portions are awesome here. Definitely consider the combination platters if you are with a group! The service here is prompt and friendly. The Chicken Kalamki platter is awesome, and the pita goes great with the tzatziki sauce. Will definitely be back!
The food was very good. The waiter made a couple of mistakes and when he bought us the wrong items, the owner gave them to us for free. The octopus was great. The yogurt was great. It was creamy. I would definitely recommend it.
The food at Kalamaki is always made with FRESH ingredients. I was in foodie heaven the first time I tried their chicken souvlaki! The pita was soft and warm, chicken was tender and well seasoned, veggies were fresh and their tzatziki sauce was on pointtt.
Their spinach pie is also very yummy.
Staff is always pleasant- very polite and very accomdating.
Pork Kalamaki Skewers were porky delicious!
My sidekick and I stopped by here after a long day studying at a nearby cafe. We were up for some Greek food! I am not the most familiar with the Auburndale area but our helpful Yelp app led us here! My friend recently moved to this neighborhood and she did not get a chance to try this spot yet. We were super glad that we shared our first experiences here together! We were greeted immediately by the staff and the owner as we walk in the door. What a warm welcome! It was super warm compared to the chilly winds whistling outside the window and it smells so good in there.
I was attracted to their platter menu. I was super hungry! I went with the Pork Kalamaki Skewers Platter.
Each platter comes with a super soft pita bread, horiatiki (Greek salad with pieces of cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and feta cheese), choice of tzatziki or tirokafteri (spicy feta cheese spread), and a side – I went with the Greek rice. My Pork Kalamaki came with a generous 4 skewers! They were perfectly grilled and spiced all around. It was really juicy and tender. It was easy to just slide it off the skewer stick! This was a lot of food and I had to take almost half of my dish home! I would definitely get this again next time!
For dessert, we had their specialty greek yogurt. Of course, the pineapple, hazelnut, and agave nectar one caught my eyes. I loved how heavenly the yogurt tasted. It was super fluffy and the toppings paired well with it.
So sidekick, when are we coming back?! A great choice for a date or dinner with loved ones!
I read about Kalamaki in a weekly paper's rave that had an advertorial vibe. Even if I wasn't sure about the level of journalistic scrutiny, I was compelled by the description of the horiatiki salad, especially the part about how it had no lettuce.
The massive salad is a high point, especially when you chop up the feta and everything soaks in the olive oil. The pita was very good. Having tried the pork gyro sandwich, I'd suggest you check out this meat but in platter form instead. The tzatziki overpowered the pork in the sandwich.
I like Kalamaki's modular menu. Many of the items are in different formats and sizes, so I was able to try a small, inexpensive pork skewer.
