  1. This was a good random find brunch place to eat before going to Met museum.

The place is fairly big, and the service was good. I had the Salmon Eggs Benedict which was amazing!

I would definitely would have brunch here again when in the area.

  2. Mehhhh… Close to central park, it's no wonder this place is in business. Tourists don't know better and figure a fancy restaurant should taste good.

My friend and I shared the mashed potatoes from this restaurant for $7 (side), but SEVEN FREAKING DOLLARS and they were bland. While we were waiting for the food, we sat at the bar researching our next destination while the waiter man stood next to us lingering as if we were ready to steal something. With a stink in one eye, we got the message and decided to leave.

Needless to say, we won't be back and neither should you.

  3. The restaurant is only a few blocks from the Metropolitan Museum.  Went with two friends for dinner and we all enjoyed our meals.  I had the beet salad that was sliced beets with creme fraiche and it was good.  The entree was the organic pork with butternut squash gratin and carmelized onions and that was really delicious.  Service was good throughout the meal.  I'm not sure why there are such negative reviews as our experience was very positive.  It is a small restaurant but a nice atmosphere.  I'd definitely go again.

  4. To…Finish…later, in short recommend the Coq au vin and the Cider

Surprised there are so many bad reviews about the service. Maybe it was since it was not too crowded but our waiter and the guy who looked like the proprietor were both quite nice. Anyway:

    Mini-review
++ French Cider, Tarte Tartin, Coq Au Vin sauce/demiglace
+ Wine, Coq au Vin, Steak Frites, Crepe Suzette (for those of us who like a bit more alcohol)
+= Portions, price…for the prix fixe, Fries, pasta with coq au vin, Ice cream, servicee
= Trout, volume away from the bar, price of desserts, coffee, Pate de Campagne
=- Meunière sauce, volume near the bar, alcohol selection outside of wine, price of regular menu with some exceptions, Carrot-Ginger soup, Trout

Drinks: (came with Prix Fixe menu)

French Cider: Quite good, properly chilled, recommended highly

Wine: Merlot, good wine (but it is a French restaurant)

    Appetizers:
Note: Person who didn't get prix fixe got no appetizer

Pate de Campagne: Small portion but good pate. Gherkins were OK.

Ginger soup feat a Carrot aftertaste, I mean Carrot Ginger soup: Special for the day, Very gingery/strong, a bit harsh. Waiter originally brought out a gazpacho. Good portion.

    Mains:

    Coq au Vin
Delicious rendition, pasta was good and the demiglace was amazing. Chicken was rich and butery, highly recommended.

    Steak Frites
Nicely cooked, frites were definitley well made, no sauce which was odd for a French place. Steak was good though and the portion was fine, especially for prix fixe. Moderately recommdned.

    Trout Meunière
Meunière wasn't the proper color, was a bit light, fish itself was a bit overcooked. Not recommended.

    Dessert:

Crepe Suzette with grand marnier: Definitley with grand marnier, was drenched in it. Crepe was properly made but it was just a bit too strong.

Tarte Tatin with vanilla ice cream

A thin buttery crust topped with the softest richest apples you'll ever taste. So this dessert was pretty..well, amazing. Great portion, could be shared. Not exactly a traditional tarte tatin but very very good.
Ice cream was also real good but well, nothing can take away from the Tarte Tatin (I swear I wrote something like this before…)

    Espresso: Norm

Waiter: Good but they gave the wrong soup originally, guy was nice. The head of the place was also very thankful. Both of them had a french accent. Maybe they were nicer as we said Merci?

4.2 Great food, good find. Highly recommend the Tarte Tatin, the Coq au Vin, and the Cider. Would have been a 5 if I had those things alone. Fish drags it down to a 4.

  5. I think this is my parents' favorite brunch spot so I've been here a few times, including this afternoon.  The crowd there is very upscale but the atmosphere is still casual enough.  The food is always delicious and even the brunch standards (ie eggs and potatoes) are amazing.

I was especially impressed by the service today, and after last night at Agave (see my review) with my friends, I am very appreciative.  haha

  6. I got snowed in Manhattan last year with two friends and came here for dinner in the blizzard to treat ourselves.  The restaurant was packed but we got a seat immediately.  The food was so good and we had a really good time.  I had the pear and gorgonzola cheese app and devoured it. It was so good.  I only got the chicken for an entree because I wasn't feeling too experimental.  My friends both had liver and escargot.  One of them lives nearby and eats here often.

  7. Every time my cousin and family come from out of town we go to Demarchelier Restaurant for our family meal. This only happens once per year. I've always been pleased with the food. Both the quality and quantity of the food is worth the price. They serve complimentary bread and butter. The variety of food is good.  You can have a la carte or prix fix meal.
Our meals were sword fish, steak tartar, organic chicken, steak Pom frites, with sides of creamed spinach, mescaline and warm Gouda, escargot, mixed green salad, and we had three different deserts. The flam, creme brûlée, and my favorite, the cheesecake.
Everyone enjoyed the wine. We enjoyed the atmosphere that allowed us to relax catch up on family and enjoy a memorable night out.
The service was excellent. Our waitress was so nice and the dirty dishes were promptly removed when we were finished. My cousin said if he lived near the restaurant he would be there every night!
No complaints about this lovely French restaurant that is in a convenient location. I ate so much I feel like I won't need to eat for three days!

  8. A great French neighborhood place, though you can find French food of similar quality a few blocks east for less money.
