Baba Ghanouge
“I liked it also because their falafel is gluten-free because I like falafel but most places have gluten in falafel.”
“This thing was massive, on whole wheat pita, plus I added Tabouli, hummus, and spicy tahini.”
“I was surprised to see the sandwich heated (like a panini) and maybe that did bring out the flavors better and make the bread soft – I dont know.”

It's a good lunch spot and the price is great. Friendly service and limited seating. For this area it's a good option but since I live in Queens I know there are better places out there. However, I would still come here if I was in the area, especially since my company's HQ are nearby.
I've been on a Halal tear as of late (I pray to god, or Allah, that I'm using Halal in proper context), and seeing as how I'm always downtown, I needed to find a place to fill this particular void in my life (stomach).
With the construction on Chambers and W Broadway, my stand bye cheap-ass cart is gone (noo!), so I needed to find something fast. This place will have to do for now, and I must say that it ain't a bad thing at all.
Walking into the place, the cashier was having an argument with a lady about pitas and prices for the house tahini sauce. They settled their dispute, with cashier man telling her that "she couldn't eat" her food in the establishment. Wayy harsh, but kind of an endearing badass first impression.
Well I told muh man that I wanted a chicken shawarma pita. I was the only one in line (it was about 8:00pm), so I thought it would be a snappy sammich build; took a bit over 5 minutes. It looks like they get lots of orders for delivery, as the assembly line guys were working like fiends making plenty of pita wraps that I didn't order. No problems with that, it just made me hungrier.
When I got my chicken shawarma pita, it was nice and hot, just being firmly pressed by the press-grill-toaster thing. I loved the garlic spread/hummus they put in the sandwiches (though I still had the taste in the back of my mouth for a loonngg time after eating). Kinda sad that the pita wrap was a bit small (or maybe my appetite too big), and they were a bit stingy on the chicken… but overall, the ingredients were great.
Imma try something new next time, and maybe next time I'll walk in on cashier man actually laying the smackdown the next hard-on who tries to argue pita/tahini prices with him.
Looks yummy but didn't get to try.
Guy grabs bloody piece of raw lamb kebab to grill, wipes his gloved hands on his apron a couple times, then uses those same hands to grab lettuce to make a salad for me.
When I point out to him that maybe there should be slightly more of a separation between raw and cooked foods, (hello, tongs?) guy looks bewildered like I told him the earth is flat.
Good for you, if you don't mind a little food borne illness here and there. But I think I'll pass.
I stumbled upon Baba Ghanouge on my trek home and in my hungry state, ordered the first thing I laid my eyes on (Chicken Schwarma Pita). I actually found it to be pretty tasty and it was inexpensive. They had me in and out of the door within 5 minutes.
This establishment does not have a lot of seating available and cleanliness might even be a smidgeon questionable, but they're friendly, efficient and well-priced. I wouldn't ever recommend having a date or party here, but it isn't a bad choice for a very casual outing or quick bite. All in all, a solid 3.5.
I read the bad reviews. I went here, had chicken shawarma sandwich and it was awesomesauce 🙂 I love the garlic spread. The place looks SKETCHY, but they had a good grade from the department of health.
This is a spot you need to visit and LEAVE. It is a hole in the wall, so don't go there thinking there is a great atmosphere.
Was absolutely delicious! Kept telling my coworker I was full but could not stop because it was seasoned so well.
I ordered Mix Shawarma Platter.
The portion was very generous, and the meat and rice were spiced really well.
The humus, had fresh olive oil sitting on top of it and the salad was a standard refreshing side.
What really did me in, was the seasoning of the meat, really made a great lunch and one of the few that I did not regret or did not thoroughly enjoy.
I like their spicy falafel, but they have such HORRIBLE service. One time, I ordered the falafel only to have the server try to be sneaky and sell me an old one. He literally opened it up to check what was inside (from a previous order I'm assuming), added more sauce, and passed it along as if it was fresh. Ugh!
I went there with a friend. We both had chicken over rice. A warning about their food. They don't ask you before they pile on the sauces. So for example if you don't want hot sauce you better tell them or you will get it. My friend didn't get a chance to tell them no hot sauce and got it against his wishes. I stopped them in time since I noticed them putting it on his. The chicken over rice didn't taste like chicken over rice you get at a Halal Cart. It had a different flavor. First of all, I had to add salt. The sauces were interesting. The sauces over the dish included Tahini. The tomatoes on the plate were a little mushy and seemed old. It was filling. But I can't say I enjoyed it as much as I enjoy street food chicken and rice. The seating was limited. And the table was dirty when we arrived and I had to clean it myself. The staff seemed kind of quiet and stand-offish. They didn't seem like the friendliest bunch. Honestly I wouldn't return unless I had no place else in the neighborhood to go eat.
