LOVE their gyros! Ordered the beef and lamb gyros with the works at the counter and waited about 10 minutes even though it was extremely busy in the restaurant. It was great for takeout but also looked like a casual sit-down restaurant if you were in the mood to hang out there and eat. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. The meat on the spit looked fresh and the smell made my mouth water. Once I got home, I was able to enjoy my meal. The gyro is a decent portion that filled me up. The meat was so tender and melted in my mouth. The tzatziki sauce was tangy and delicious. the pita was thick and didn't get too soggy with the works on it. I will definitely be back again soon to get my fill of gyros!
As the closest competitor of Fontana's a few blocks away, Gyro World wins solely because of the better prices – not because their meat or food is superior. Dined inside once, but would rather order takeout or delivery. I highly recommend their gyro platter, because portions are huge and it comes with a side salad. But the regular gyro sandwiches are plenty filling by themselves if you're just looking to sate that craving. Additionally, the tatsziki sauce is great and you can really taste the fresh onion in it.
Went to gyro world on a weekday for some gyros (what else?) for dinner with a few friends.
For the price, the gyros here are decent. I got the pork gyro though I hear that their beef/lamb gyro is better. The fries weren't soggy but weren't particularly too crispy either. The service was alright but nothing to write home about.
Pretty much everything about gyro world was just "okay." Try it out if you're around the area and are craving some gyros. My friends did mention that Fontana Famous Pizza & Gyro couple of blocks away is better so maybe not…
This place is extremely average on all fronts.
Got the platter for two and it's huge with sausages, burgers, souvlaki, gyro meat all in the mix. And tomatoes, onion, lemon, fries.
First and most important for me is the gyro meat was good but it lacked flavor, it's not bad at all, toasted on the grill right but needs for flavor.
I thought the sausage was good but not any different or better than any other place.
The main piece of food that stood out was a lamb burger, there were two kinds, I liked the lamb burger because of the texture of the meat.
And the two kinds of souvlaki were soft yet meaty.
The Tzatziki sauce was not thick like I get from other restaurants, it seemed watered down and not flavorful. If that's how it's suppose to be fine, not bad, just the sauce was not much thicker than milk.
All in all, yes, enjoyable.
Food here is always good. We always have the chicken souvlaki sandwich and a order of fries with tzatziki sauce. The chicken is juicy and the warm crisp pita makes the perfect sandwich. The fries with the oregano on top is delish. I do notice the temperature of the dining room is always off. In the summer the air conditioner was broken so it was hot. Now in the winter it is freezing. Many patrons ate with there coats on!
The best gyros ever! When we used to live in Flushing we would order from here at least 1-3 x's a month. Now that we've moved and can't find decent gyros in the Boston area we ordered 6 gyros to go on our weekend get away last week. Once we got home we stuffed our faces. Yes, Hubby and I love to eat and can eat a lot, so no judging! The sandwiches are huge and can be stuffing. The meat is perfectly flavored and love the sandwich with extra tzatziki sauce. Man, I'm actually salivating as I write this review. The sandwich is just that good!
I've been hearing good things about Gyro World. We checked it out today and was so excited to know if the experience will beat my good experience at next door neighbor Fontana's.
We came at the best time, 6:30 pm , lesser crowd was visible . As we were looking at their menu- "The Gyro World Platter" for two makes sense for me and the hubby. With the price of $26, with variety of meat, fries, salad and pita with the famous tzatziki sauce, we guessed that's good enough. The platter has selections of beef and lamb gyro ( wohoo – was the reason i came here!), beef and chicken bifteki , chicken and pork souvlaki, and pork loukaniko. I googled each definition for me to enjoy what i was going to eat.
Holy Molly, we were surprised when our order arrived——- their " for two size platter" could feed 4 people. Who did they based into their standard serving size? 🙂 If my son was just with us, this will make his day! Everything was delicious as expected, lightly seasoned and grilled to my liking. My most favorite was their gyro- thinly sliced tasteful tender meat. Too bad that the white sauce included in the entree wasn't enough for the whole platter by our consumption rate. We brought home the left-overs of at least at third of the serving.
The wait staff was accommodating and suggestive. Worth coming here.
This is more accurately a 2.5. Their service is excellent – the staff there was really nice. They greeted us as soon as we walked in and we got to sit wherever we wanted. They're open until midnight, which was perfect after watching a movie.
I ordered a vegetarian wrap without the cheese. The description said there was grilled eggplant, peppers, lettuce, and tomatoes. But I got it and saw no eggplant…so just lettuce, peppers, and tomatoes. WTF? I could've made that myself at home with no effort. I asked someone about the eggplant, and he said, "no, there's no eggplant in the wrap". I left it as it was but the fact that they charged $8.95 for such an underwhelming, unspectacular, generic salad, sad excuse for a wrap.
That aside, everything was great. The eggplant dip was really good. My boyfriend liked his chicken souvlaki platter. The side of rice I got wasn't dry, and the lemon potatoes had a hint of crisp. Also, olive oil is always better than butter, so they win points on that.
I'm willing to give this place another shot, but please fix your wrap.
