Well, I probably should have known not to order Greek food from a place called "Jimbo's". I ordered the avgolemono soup and the spinach pie/Greek salad combo for delivery. Delivery was fast and courteous, however that's where the good experience ends. Everything was bland. The soup was thin and missing that creamy, lemon kick. The spinach pie, while sturdy, was lacking seasoning. The Greek salad was delivered without the sardines mentioned on the menu. I do like that they sent lemon halves and bread with the meal, however this just didn't do it for me. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth the almost $20 I spent on lunch. Maybe it's better if you eat at the actual restaurant.
We were taken here by a Greek friend of ours who grew up in Astoria, so we knew the food was going to be great. She ordered everything for us in Greek, and we were very pleased with the GIANT platter of meat that came out.
There were delicious dill meatballs, lamb, chopped liver and other assorted meats cooked well. We had some fried cheese, some pita and tzatziki, salad olives and other goodies. All of them excellent and all of the low price.
We had shots of ouzo all around, and even had some shots purchased for our table on the house. It was a great time. Until…
… about 11pm when the restaurant decided it was time to close the curtains and declare it a "private-party", meaning that they could get away with letting customer smoke indoors. Immediately about a dozen patrons lit up, followed by a few more, followed by cigar smokers.
The restaurant was filled with thick, dense second hand smoke, making it tough to even see across to the back of the establishment. After about 20 minutes, we could not take it any more and had to leave.
It's a shame because we were rather enjoying ourselves and the live music up until that point. We won't be back.
So 5-stars for the feast, 1-star for the smoke. 3-stars.
This is a delivery review. I had never been here but was really craving Greek food. First of all, it was kinda expensive, but we got a lamb dish, stuffed peppers and grilled calamari.
The warm pita was literally the best part of the whole meal.
The calamari: ew. I love grilled calamari usually but this order wasn't cleaned! It was rubbery and smelled fishy. There were no grill marks so I don't know how it got so rubbery. But it was inedible since it hadn't been cleaned even if we could have gotten past the rubbery-ness.
The stuffed peppers were decent, but there were only two and one was very small and one was decent size and it cost $13! Too much.
The lamb was some sortof soup which had yummy Greek cheese in it, but the meat was super fatty. When we could get to the ACTUAL meat, it was tasty, but there was so little of it in comparison to the fat. And again the dish was $15+ & no rice or anything included.
And the food took over an hour to show up.
Well not be ordering from them again. Too many great Greek places… or even just decent ones to deal with them again.
