I can't believe we haven't tried this place sooner since we live nearby. The best Italian gastronomia (I think it means deli in italian) and food emporium I've been. A huge selection of Italian meats, cheeses, breads, drinks, confectionaries, and other foodstuffs. Molto bene! (somebody stop me).
And they make wonderful sandwiches. We ordered a prosciute, muzzarel, roasted peppers, and basil sangwich on italian bread. Firstly, the muzzarel is homemade. Perfect texture and not too salty. Second, their prosciute was buttery soft. Sometimes, prosciute can bee too tough. Not here though. This hero was one of the better sandwiches I've had in a long time. Save for the corn-meal crumbs on the italian roll (dang corn-meal crumbs making a mess), it would've been the perfect sangwich.
Moreover, the service was warm and welcoming. The lady behind the counter who made our sangwiches really plays up the role of a typical Italian-American mother. A lot of sass. But she was nice and funny.
So yeah, check this place out.
Given the proximity to where I live, I usually shop for my Italian delicacies at either Clemente's in S. Hackensack, Vitamia in Lodi or Latona's in Garfield – all three are excellent. I'm so glad, however, that I've stumbled upon this fantastic market. It's well worth the extra 10 or 15 minute drive. The mozzarella is soooo good! The deli meats sliced paper thin, the cheeses wonderful, and the hot dishes delicious!
And the service is super friendly. Luisa is so easy and delightful to speak with as she works, works, works behind the counter. It really makes the whole experience worthwhile and a big reminder as to why local neighborhood stores like this are so important given our rushed, crazed way of living here in northern NJ. She sort of helps you just relax for a minute and talk – talk about anything!
Forget the Iowa Caucus – Luisa, Filomena and the rest of the family have their pulse on any subject with unbridled pragmatism and honesty. It would be interesting to get their take on how to fix the world's woes. Of course, over a nice plate of meats, cheeses, some focaccia, olives and a bottle of wine! Ah, now that's living!
Enjoy!
The best italian grocery/supermarket/gastronomia there is in north jersey! I've been coming here since I was a young girl. Their rice balls are the best! I love ordering sandwiches such as chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella. The broccoli rabe mmmmm delish. Ricotta pie pieces. Imported pastry puff apricot cookies are my fav. The ladies behind the deli are so sweet and friendly you feel you've know them forever. Huge selection of imported Italian goods from Italy. I love this place forever and ever.
