  1. Today began MY spring training…the ongoing quest for Jersey's best hot dogs.

A co-worker of mine grew up in Jersey City and he and I have been joined at the hip to find the best dogs…at least in the Northeastern part of the state.  He sent me an email last night asking me if I wanted to try "the best hot dog place in Jersey City".  What's a guy to do?  I can't say No…right?  Of course not.

So we took the PATH from Newark to JC and got off in Journal Square and as we (three of us went) step out of the station I see a huge statue of Jackie Robinson…so I KNOW it's going to be a good day.  Anyway, we cross over to Boulevard Drinks for my buddy's "best hot dogs in JC" and this place is TINY.  Not small, not cramped, like you need to turn sideways to get past the first person in line…AND there are like 5 stools at the counter.  Am I skeptical?  NO!  I can tell by the aroma of grilled dogs and sausage that I am in for a bit of epicurean delight this fine, chilly afternoon.

I order two right off the bat – one Chili and cheese and one with the works-chili, kraut, onions, mustard.  You'll note the five star rating…I wish that said it all, but I'll expand a bit.  I LOVE grilled dogs and these were incredible.  Nice snap in the Sabrett, onions had a little spice to them, and the chili and chesse were incredibly tasty.  After wolfing down these two beauties I had another one with the works-and added the chili this time and it was 4-5 bites of heaven.

As we stood there talking to the manager about food places, other hot dog joints, and good eats around JC, one of my buddies nudges me and asks if I'm gonna try the sausage…he turns to my other buddy and asks the same thing.  Peer Pressure is a B**ch!  Order up a sausage with kraut, mustard and ketchup…damn.  Damn it was good.  It was like adding a cherry and whip cream to a dessert.

So between the three of us – 10 dogs, three sausages, three drinks, and a completely delicious, if not healthy, lunch.  When it comes to hot dogs, five stars is a sure fire sign that I WILL be back.  Boulevard Drinks, you just made it to the spot near the top of a very long list of hot dog joints that only hope to serve a dog as good as yours.

  2. As scary as hot dogs are they are tasty! So though every part of me tells me I shouldn't eat hotdogs (especially my stomach), I'll eat them once in a blue usually with the suggestion of someone else (my hotdog connoisseur lover). Now this place has perfected the simplicity of grilling a hotdog, placing it in hotdog bread and topping them off with several toppings of your choice. I go for onions, sauerkraut, ketchup & mustard. Some go for the chili too. I usually choose not to do that to my poor stomach & rear but I've heard the chili on top is good.
This place is cheap & quick (if it isn't crowded) & satisfies a mystery meat craving.
Now, staff needs to keep track of who comes first because there are no rules in this place and unless you want to get into a fistfight with a crackhead people may skip you. I usually let them skip.

  3. These dogs are delicious! Not as salty or as greasy as grays papaya but huge flavor and a great bite. The place itself us small, 7 stools and no standing room. Its not really clean which I'd the only reason for the 1 star drop.

The chili dog us actually meaty and the kraut is  crisp but not overly pickled.

They also make lime rickeys if you ask, and I suggest you do.

  4. I've been coming to this place since I was a kid and the hot dogs are just as good now as they were then. This is hands down the best hog dogs I've ever had in my life.

My only other recommendation is to try a lime ricky. It's a drink that I can only describe as an amazing concoction of deliciousness that will blow your mind. It's not on the menu, but they still serve it up for those who ask just like they have for decades.

The chili-dogs here are things of legend… It has amazing flavor and spice that perfectly compliments the perfectly cooked hotdogs that have that perfect snap when you take that first bite.

That's it… Game over… You win, Boulevard Drinks.

  5. Boulevard drinks is the bomb! I don't even know how I came across this place because it's literally a small shop in journal square. I always order two hot dogs with chili and onions with a side of fruit punch. It's so flavorful and it has a little spice to it which I absolutely love. The buns are toasted and the hot dogs are warm. I definitely think that it's underrated compared to papaya dog or grays papaya. It definitely tastes better and the price is right. This place is a must try!

  6. To all my New York implants now living in Jersey City, craving a good hotdog every now and then can now get them on this side of the water.  Boulevard Drinks is the place and they are located in Journal Square right next to a bar/theater.

This is a very small venue with about six stools inside with a walkup window for you to order your dogs to go. The prices are pretty reasonable and they remind me of a Gray's Papaya hotdogs from NY.

For all my hotdog lovers, this is the place for you and me.

  7. Best hot dogs in jersey city. It's a basic spot and cash only but the hot dogs here are so good! Great on-the-go meal.

  8. Better than any truck hot dog. Better than any fair hot dog. Better than any hot dog place out there. This place gives famous Chicago hot dogs a run for its money.

    Cheap
    Friendly
Take it on the go or sit and watch some of the square goonies in action.
Get the chili topping, it has a kick to it.

You can't be from jersey city and not try their hot dogs. It's one of those things that you have to understand.
