  1. This place is great for happy hour and light bite. I came here with my friends after work, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere. They had a variety of beer, wine, and gin inspired drinks on the happy hour menu. Each of us ordered something different; I had the Juniper Gin and Tonic, which was delicious. For the second round, I ordered off the regular drink menu, and had a specialty cocktail. For food, I ordered the greek pita with fries. Not bad at all, but certainly not the greatest sandwich I've ever had.

The atmosphere was definitely my favorite part. The inside is very cool and cozy with some fun tunes playing over the loud speaker. It was a very nice night too, so they had the windows open. Price wise it is expensive, so I definitely advise going during happy hour, which is from 4 pm to 8 pm!

  2. The staff at Juniper was awesome. We were initially seated at a high-top table in the bar. Since we don't drink and the bar was pretty loud, we were not too happy.  Never having been there, we didn't realize that, even with a reservation, the actual dining room is small and usually booked so, they seat people next to the bar. The hostess and our server were able to get us into the dining room, most likely because a table cleared sooner than expected.

Two of us had the tuna burger which was fantastic. Cooked the way we ordered it. My husband had the chipotle burger. Also spectacular! Side salad and fries were perfect. Service was exceptional.  We were going to Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden and they got us out the door in plenty of time. The next time we're in NYC we will be back but will definitely request a table in the dining room.

  3. Great cocktails, staff, and food was delicious. Definitely has a trendy ambiance that is appealing to ypung professionals. Will definitely be returning.

  4. What got me sold: Their location – close to MSG, and their salmon.

When I find myself going to a show at MSG or just generally meeting someone around Penn Station, I don't get excited at the thought of having to plan dinner because a majority of the surrounding food options are bars.  However, at Juniper Bar, the menu isn't just the typical bar menu. They have more creative items and healthier options for people like me who don't drink. I ordered the salmon with jasmine white rice. I grew up on jasmine white rice, so I was looking forward to that. However, their white rice is cooked with some salt and oil, which changes the flavor – not in a bad way, but I was expecting the flavor and consistency of the steamed white rice you get at chinese take outs. This one reminded me of the white rice served in latin restaurants (still very good). The salmon was cooked to perfection. The soy glaze – that I got on the side anyway – wasn't necessary because the right-amount-of-seasoning and texture of the fish was perfect on its own. My fiance had the turkey burger and said it had good flavor but was a little dry. Yucca fries were awesome – try that instead of regular fries.

The interior has a back room with maybe 20 tables or less for dinner/dinner reservations. That's where we sat. It's a little further away from the large bar area, which gets crowded for happy hour specials. The crowd is a good mix. It gets louder the later it gets so this might not be the place for a romantic quiet dinner. But for meeting up with friends after work near Penn Station, go for it.

  5. Great atmosphere, we were able to get a table right by the windows which they have open in the warmer season. The waitress was also very attentive and helpful with our drink options. We ended up going with a couple of drinks that were off menu since they seem to have special drinks on the daily that aren't on their normal menu.

For the food, we both went with a burger, the thai burger. They cooked it very well and I would have thought the papaya was a very interesting ingredient to placed in a burger but it works! Delicious and the fries were good too! Love the atmosphere as well, maybe because we were more towards the front of the bar that it wasn't as crowded or noisy. Definitely will be back for more happy hour nights.

  6. Probably the sports bar I hate the least but still seedy overall. There was really questionable people making out all over the place–which I guess for some people would be a plus, but was really putting me off. I don't know…. when I'm paying just as much for a drink as I would at nice lounge… I'm just expecting a bit more of something. Any true sports bar lover probably wouldn't enjoy this place either as it wasn'y bro-y enough. Very awkward positioning.

  7. Wednesday night looking for a dinner spot near the movie theater. A lot of the nicer (non-douchey) bars seemed a bit crowded, but this place had seating in the back and a good happy hour to boot.

First half of the restaurant looks like a regular bar, then you head to the back where it's more of an inviting dining experience. Happy hour ends at 8pm and usually just for the bar, though the server let us have the deal at the table. Ordered two glasses of the house red ($6 each), the Pressed Foccacia ($14) and the Veggie Burger ($14). Foccacia is super soft with wonderfully grilled veggies and cheese inside. The side salad is your normal fare. Veggie burger is large and served with a delicious sun-dried tomato sauce that's very rich. The happy hour wine tasted just okay (you get what you pay for there)

Service wise, the food and check took a bit of time, but the wait staff is friendly and attentive. I would say it's a 3.5 star spot, rounded up for the location.

  8. Kind of a blah experience here. Came with a few friends hoping to take advantage of the happy hour deals, but were told that we couldn't get the specials since we were dining and not sitting in the bar area. Ok. I then tried to order a beer off the drinks menu and was told I had been given the wrong menu and they no longer had that beer.
Finally, the drink I did order was placed on the very corner of the table, and the waitress did not alert me that my drink had even been set down. I turned around and my elbow hit the precariously placed glass, immediately spilling the cider all over my pants, my purse, and my friend's coat.
Aside from all this, the burger I had was pretty subpar. Doubtful that I'll end up here again, it was pretty sparsely populated for a Saturday night for a reason.
