This place was AWESOME. Thanks to RL for the tips on what to order as well as what to expect!
I was a bit worried that I won't be able to get a table with a grill (as previous comments on Chowhound mentioned that parties less than 4 their skewers were done in the kitchen and brought out versus grilled at the table), but since it was a slow Tuesday night, we were ushered to a table with a grill.
Our server didn't speak any English and kept speaking Chinese to us, which resulted in a lot of us speaking English and pantomiming what we wanted, and him responding in Chinese and nodding.
Either way, we were able to communicate fairly well!
We ordered the beef, squid, and lamb skewers. The lamb was hands down, the most tastiest, fattiest lamb I've had in a long time. My boyfriend was like, "why didn't we just order ALL lamb??" The cumin dipping sauce added a nice flavor to everything. The squid and beef were forgettable (we actually didn't finish the squid… we didn't think it was all that great).
Since it was a pretty hot day, the restaurant was pretty hot and with the grill, it got almost unbearably hot. So keep that in mind if you're craving this on a hot summer day!
The nengmyun was a really nice way to finish the meal – not the best nengmyun I've had, but still seriously good. And they were nice and gave us an extra bowl so that we could split it between the two of us.
The banchans were good, but a bit sparse (when comparing to the usual banchans I'm used to receiving at Korean places!).
All in all, a solid meal! And different from the usual Queens find which I enjoyed!
Why all the bad reviews? I enjoyed my meal here.
We came on a Sunday night and the place wasn't very busy. We got 10 of the lamb skewers and 10 of the shrimp skewers. Both were very tasty and I especially liked the shrimps. It was grilled until very crispy that you could even eat the shells. And the self rotating grill was very entertaining to play/cook with.
We ordered a bottle of soju with a pitcher of bud. And that went very well with the skewers.
In terms of the place, they had these booth that were pretty comfortable and service was decent.
Overall a fun place. I would definitely be back
It is really true – never judge a book by its cover. I walked by this place a few times but it's definitely one that I would preferred to avoid – mainly because of the pictures of food outside and the flashy lights that make you feel like you're in a lotto shop.
We should've asked them to clarify the menu but when you see chicken skewers 10 pieces, I thought it would be 10 chunks possibly 3-4 skewers but its 10 skewers! We had the beef (yum), chicken (YUM!), pork skin (ick), sausage fried rice and marinated whelk (YUM but huge)… for 2 people.
The menu is endless but the one item that caught my eye was on the BBQ list – bull's penis. I attempted to take a photo of it but the waitress came by and told me no pictures! Not on my list of food to try but if it's on someone else's, this is the place for it!
They're not very comfortable speaking English but if you point and smile enough, everything works out.
