Eh, this place is really hit or miss. The sushi is never fantastic, but rarely inedible. The Franklin Roll is their best in my opinion. I wouldsn't stray too far outside of the rolls to the regular sushi, as the fish never tastes that fresh.
The old sushi chef was okay, but they've had a string of crappy ones for a while.
Prices are cheap, and they have a couple different sakes to choose from.
Ambiance is typical cheap sushi place. One thing though is that it feels like it is always empty. I remember walking in one time and it looked like the place was robbed, it was completely empty. The waitress was napping in a booth and got up when we came in. That was weird… It was 6 o'clock, not really that early.
Stop in here if you need a quick sushi fix. Otherwise, you're better off up a couple stores at Napoli's for pizza.
more like a 2.5
why do i come back? because i'm on a budget! it is VERY cheap.
super duper cheap. is the sushi fresh? not really
are the rolls creative? no. just the usual stuff- boston, soft shell crab, california and so forth
dude… if im on a sushi/sashimi crave, then thats where im going to bring my broke cheap ass to eat
the staff is nice and seems family owned. by all means, i can easily get here and dont recommend traveling for the food here
The reviews before mine were pretty accurate. It's just okay. Edible, cheap sushi. Maybe I'll come back and give them another chance to redeem one more star.
I stopped by for lunch today, the lunch menu has pretty decent prices. I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai which included Miso soup. It took about 15 minutes for me to get my order, I really didn't mind because that let me know they were cooking to order.
The Shrimp Pad Thai was very good minus the mushrooms. I'm not a fan of Miso soup but I decided to give it another try and I can honestly say I'm still not a fan.
The restaurant looked a little dull and lifeless. The staff was friendly.
This is a review update for 2015 and for ordering through grubhub.
The prices on grubhub are a little higher. They offer the three roll special with miso soup and salad for $15. Make sure you order ahead because it will take an hour or more. We ordered at 4:45 and the food was not delivered until 6pm or so.
The quality of the fish seems to be about the same. The assembly of the rolls is still as unprecise as I remember. Some of the rolls are uneven in width or lopsided. Its still edible though and tasty. The rolls with a single item inside are very tiny and they don't compensate by adding any additional rice. My order of shrimp tempura rolls only came with 5 rolls and not the usual 6. They charge 50 cents for extra sauces. The spicy mayo is good but not very spicy. The salad is just some lettuce and one slice of cucumber but the dressing is great. The miso soup is also good.
I don't have any problems with the taste of the food at all but the portion sizes could be bigger. I'd easily skip the soup and salad if they would make the rolls a little bigger or offer 8 instead of 6.
I will likely order again since they are so close and accept grubhub but not because it's a favorite choice.
The sushi is okay and decent for a quick, cheap meal.
ATTENTION:
You should take advantage of their *LUNCH SPECIAL* served 7 days a week from 10:30-3:30pm!
SPECIAL ROLL w/ miso soup = 2 rolls for ONLY $6.50 & 3 rolls for ONLY $8.00!!!
Highly Recommended: Spicy Salmon Roll, Salmon Mango Roll, Ocean Roll (Salmon/Tuna)
Yes, as you can tell, I am a major fan of SALMON hehe
Anyhow, NO complaints – at least, the sushi did not upset my tummy since I have a highly sensitive stomach.
This place is a few blocks from my house. I came for convenience and nothing more. You only come for the cheap lunch deal. 2 rolls for $6.50 and 3 rolls for $8.00! It comes with a miso soup. Anything else, you're better off somewhere else! The fish aren't exactly the fresh and your rolls fall apart. After years living in Fresh Meadows, I'm surprised they are still open. This place is never packed and there's usually one or two tables occupied. I would come as a last resort.
I also thought it was funny because the owner really tried everything to spice up the place. They were trying to make it a Mexican Taco/Japanese place (odd combo), then they tried to add Thai food to the menu, and now since the corner deli closed off, they are now serving breakfast in the morning. What's next?!?
