  1. So I've seen china gourmet on my lunch ventures at work and made a note as a place I should check out. I had not gotten around to it until a group-on came out for the place and I went there for dinner with a friend.

So we went on a Thursday night and it was pretty empty there was a total of 5 tables with people at them including our own. The place was relatively quiet and the looks of the place were ok. The waitress greeted us and got our drinks right away. She also took our orders and brought out some noodles with a spicy mustard an sweet and sour.  There menu was pretty huge, and they had another menu with interesting things such as frog and a few other oddities as well. I stuck with the main menu and ordered the Hawaii Five-0.
The First thing to come out was the pu pu platter which was awesome. All the stuff on there was great. Then came out our entrée's be both ordered the same thing and it was ok. My friend liked it a lot more than I did.  I thought It tasted a little fishy, and granted there is a lot of sea food in the Hawaii Five-0 but fish should taste like is respective fish not 'fishy'. From someone who more often then not clears his plate, I left a little less than half of it. As I was just put off by the meal. After they did bring us sliced oranges and a nice added touch though.
Overall, I don't think I would eat here again. I just wasn't that impressed.

  2. From the outside, this place looks strangely reminiscent of Mulan's house. So even though their expansive parking lot is always empty, I feel like I have to try it.

The inside is, as expected, equally empty. It's also kind of grimy – the dining room smells like tilapia habitat – which persuades me to get my food to go (but not from ordering it!). Take out also helps me avoid being *that* person eating dinner at a table for one, inside a restaurant for one.

There are a lot of choices on the menu and the execution is actually quite good, but the ingredients never seem to taste that fresh (surprise!). Salt & Pepper fried pork chops are amazing every time though.

I can't help but wonder if this entire establishment is a complex social experiment: How many times will Jeff eat at this incredibly suspicious restaurant before he starts to regret it. Well, it's been three times and I don't regret it yet.

  3. There's a reason I rarely eat here anymore, and furthermore there's a reason that the parking lot rarely has many cars in it.  The food simply isn't very good.

Dry, lifeless, overcooked Americanized Chinese food with a high price point and rude disinterested service.

The flavors are just a little off.  The food a little too oily.

I won't even come here for takeout anymore, despite its convenient location.  There's better Chinese food to be had driving elsewhere.

  4. Dim Sum was so disappointing here! I came to visit my sister and her kids and this was the closest dim sum by their house. I grew up on Chinatown-Manhattan and Flushing-Queens food so Jersey dim sums are generally very disappointing for me. Their food is not very fresh. You can tell a lot of their foods were frozen in a package. According to my sister, "if you don't expect too much, then their food is not that bad". Haha, that's how you can tell she's been living in Jersey for way too long. Lol
