  1. Overall, the food is very reasonably priced and the portions are big!

String Beans: YUM! They make this dish soo well here. The string beans are crunchy and full of flavor. I can each this whole dish with some white rice. A+!

Shrimp with Egg: Simple, yet delicious dish. The eggs are fluffy and the shrimps are tender and pretty big in size. I had some leftovers and ate it the next day and was still tasty!

Si Gua (luffa): Some of the pieces of si gua were bitter, but that's not their fault. The way they cooked it was good, though. Lots of sauce to put on your rice.

Pork with Bean Curd: This was my least favorite dish. It was pretty bland and didn't have any dimension.

  2. That's Mr. Chu to you.

I want to give this place a 4, because think it probably deserves it based on food alone.  I want to come back and try some of the other menu items for sure because I think this place has lots of potential, just fell short my one outing there.

    Pros:
    – fried tofu (large cube kind): excellent, crispy outside and very fresh tasting tofu inside.  Excellent sweet chili dipping sauce.
    – PORK SHANK: OMG, this was exquisite.  something you'd expect from a fine new american dining establishment, but much cheaper at a chinese restaurant.  Fall off the bone good ness.  Bathed in dark savory sauce.  Succulent skin with layer of hearty fat layer (not at all rubbery).

    Cons:
    – fried dumplings- every chinese restaurant has this.  these were not crispy on the outside and inside was a bit bland.  Not too concerning tho.  its a generic item and you should be trying the other stuff anyways.
    – pork noodle soup with picked cabbage (healthy version): this was pretty bland but i guess it was for the health conscious eater.  can't blame chu that much for its lack of flavor.  but dont get this if you want something that actually tastes good.
    – seafood soup: this i was a bit disappointed in, also a bit bland imo and consistency seemed a bit artificially thick with starch.

Why I will come back: The stuff they did well, they did really well and there were numerous itmes on the menu i wanted to try and would be sure are excellent.  Next time.

Overall: good chinese eats, get the right items, dont try to be healthy.

**of note, service can be a little……meh.  My friend put his name down for a table for four.  let's call my friend "Joe."  The greeter was calling Joe's name a few minutes and we didn't hear her because we were waiting outside.  The greeter then gave our table up to another group who either 1) had the name as Joe, or 2) didn't hear that it was for Joe and assumed it was  his table or 3) pretended to be Joe so he could steal our table.  Next, when Joe asked about our table, the greeter and manager both came out and started yelling at Joe.."why didn't you answer when we called your name!  wait for the next table."  then they yelled at him some more when we got another table.  Needless to say it was a busy night, but plz, uncalled for.

  3. Everytime I'm in this area, I always make a stop at Mr.Chu's. The staff isn't super friendly but the food is very tasty and not overly salty. Some of my favorite dishes here are the salt and pepper calamari (the best calamari I've had), chicken with garlic sauce, fresh sauteed spinach with garlic, and the seafood delight (comes with a huge chunk of lobster meat mmmm). My favorite dish at the moment is the chilean sea bass. Huge piece of fish and melts in your mouth. Get it in the garlic sauce. The meal ends with complimentary orange slices which are refreshing. This is my favorite Chinese spot in the area!

  4. I've been dining and getting take out from Mr. Chu for 20 years. They have definitely withstood the test of time. Our favorites are the steamed shrimp dumplings and their shrimp toast. They have great, huge bowls of noodle soup too. You can have it with pork, beef, or lamb. Lots of noodles and bok choy. The rest of their dishes are above average and generally all delicious.

  5. This was my first time experiencing Mr. Chu, but my grandmother (and parents) has (have) been dining here for the last 3 years.  We dined on a Monday evening and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they offer Complete Dinner Specials if you dine Monday thru Friday from 5-9pm.  Score!  There were four of us so we decided to order 3 of these dinners and share.  There was so much food!  Two dinners would have been enough food for the four of us.

The Complete Dinner Specials include your choice of soup, egg roll or spring roll, brown or steamed rice, a full-sized entree, and ice cream.  Prices range from $11.95 to $16.95 depending on the entree, but the prices are clearly stated.  (See the photo I posted of the specials).  Crispy Noodles and duck sauce were brought to the table.  We started with Egg Drop Soup and Wonton Soup.  Both were good.  Then we got 2 Egg Rolls and a Spring Roll.  Those disappeared quickly.  For entrees, we ordered Chicken with Broccoli, Diced Chicken with Cashew Nuts, and Chicken with Mixed Vegetables.  The food was very flavorful and cooked well.  We had a ton of food left over so we asked for boxes to pack up the rest.

They then brought us our check.  Being the observant person that I am, I remembered that the menu mentioned that dessert (ice cream) was included with the Complete Dinner Special.  So, I asked the waitress if dessert was included and she said "yes".  She then listed the ice cream flavors for our selection.  They have chocolate, vanilla bean, strawberry, and ginger.  If I hadn't asked, they weren't going to offer the dessert to us.  That's kind of disappointing.  I probably would have went with a 5th star.  That's just not cool.  That was the one sour point of our dinner.  So, morale of the story, if you get the Complete Dinner Special, dessert is included.  Make sure to ask for it.

  6. Kid-friendly Americanized Chinese food. Not exactly destination dining, but decent food, good enough service and fair prices.

  7. I can't believe I've lived and worked in the area for so long but hadn't actually gone to Mr. Chu. The Man had gone once several years ago, but I have always been much more picky about my Chinese eateries. That being said, I wouldn't put Mr. Chu's at the top of my list if I want to grab dinner in the area. They weren't bad or anything, but I do feel they're over-hyped based on our experience.

We arrived on a rainy Saturday night. We knew we'd have to wait a bit to be seated as it was a full house, so we patiently stood in the back of the waiting area. It took about 20 minutes before we were shown to a table – no big deal. It took a while before anyone came to event take our drink orders, which also took quite a while to get to us. That's pretty much how the entire meal went – everything took a long time to get to us, nothing happened unless we flagged down the waitress (which was difficult when she would disappear or walk right past us). We waited a good 15 minutes before we could get someone to refill our water and tea.

On to the food: I ordered shrimp with garlic sauce and The Man went outside his norm with sesame beef. As it was very busy, it took a while for the food to get to us. If only it had been worth the wait. The beef was okay. The cuts of meat they used were fairly tender and the sauce had good flavor, but the portion size was far from generous. My shrimp dish came out tasting more sweet & sour than spicy. The Man doesn't do spicy AT ALL and he even thought my dish was pretty lackluster.

All in all, we've had far better experiences for the same or less money (and time) at other restaurants in the area and will likely not bother going back to Mr. Chu.

  8. This is one of my favorite places in the area. I don't know about others, but I've been finding it harder and harder to find good Chinese food. My family has gone to this place for years and it has always been consistently good. The decor of the place is clean and fresh. Service is decent.

Their beef and broccoli is quite possibly the best I've ever had. It is higher quality meat than other Chinese restaurants and is not overloaded with sauce. The pieces of meat are sliced thinly and are always cooked to perfection. The pineapple chicken and mango beef are also very good.
