This is my first ever soup dumplings and I loved it! I always hear about joe's shanghai in Chinatown and their long lines so I never bothered going. This place will do (for now).
The restaurant was easy to find, plenty of parking and close to hmart! The interior is clean, minimalist decor and friendly staff.
As for the rest of the food, it was very good. We ordered a bunch of entrees to share among 5 people and we have plenty of left overs left. I especially loved eggplant! It was nicely spiced.
Will definitely go back soon!
We were in Hartsdale for an afternoon and decided to check out Fantasy Cuisine for lunch. They get an "A" for appearance. The restaurant looks very polished and nice, and the prices are lower than you'd expect for a room of this quality.
Then again, the food was…just ok. It's not bad, but definitely not the best Chinese food I've had. I ordered a dry spicy chicken dish, which wasn't particularly dry or particularly spicy. My friend and husband both ordered soups for their entrees and they said they were extremely bland.
The service was good, waiters polite, and the place was full of patrons.
Summary: Good prices, food is nothing to write home about, but great ambiance and clearly popular with people in the area.
This is NOT Chinese food! Dry toast has more flavor!! The service is terrible. We asked for fried rice without egg and spicy, it comes out bland and with egg. Two of our main dishes come with rice which was never brought out. The soup dumplings are too doughy and oversized. The beef was from thin slices of I don't know what?? Ewww, I feel violated by this food.
FYI I grew up in Hong Kong and Singapore.
For Westchester, this place was pretty great! I liked the decor here. Very open, very clean, very spacious. If I craved soup dumplings in westchester, I would go here. The main entrees are good- but need some improvement as they are nothing amazing. But everything is pretty affordable here.
I took my family here, and they liked it. But they were generally confused by the set up of the menu and also the hotpot set up on the table when hotpot wasn't served??
Anyways, I would come back for cheap Chinese food still!
A interesting find in Westchester!
Boba was freshly made and the drinks were pretty cheap. The portions weren't skimpy and actually tasted pretty good! We got the kung pao chicken and the dan dan noodles. I would want to try the dry pot next time. As someone who grew up in Southern California, my standards are pretty high, but Fantasy Cuisine definitely has my recommendations.
Service was a bit spotty but friendly, nonetheless. Prepare for some long lines during dinner times. There is a small parking lot right next to the restaurant, but it was full when we arrived. There are plenty of street parking, so it wasn't a problem at all.
I love the decor: very contemporary, clean lines, serene, yet, they popped it with a rustic aura. The chandeliers add a sophisticated and attractive( although some bulbs were burned out) appearance. The water wall was peaceful to look at- especially with the river rocks right underneath it. The layout is tolerable – not too small, not too large.
Since I've been sick with a slight cold, I've been pretty good with what I have been ingesting … So I settled for a clear broth vegetable soup and oolong tea, while the rest of the table went for the more typical Sichuan dishes: Kung Pao Fish (which looked delicious) and Chicken & Broccoli. While the food looked presentable it was also tasty ( I have to admit, I needed some solid food and picked from those dishes, but stuck to my delicate- broth soup).
Service is ok, perhaps our server could've been more serviceable- maybe crack a smile- (it goes a long way and it doesn't cost anything!), other than that wrinkle, Fantasy Cuisine is a nice and airy place to grab lunch or dinner.
This Szechuan cuisine is actually very cheap and very clean for a Chinese restaurant in Westchester. Some usual problems for diners are:
1. long wait after ordering,
2. all dishes are brought out at once so by the middle of our dining experience, our dishes got cold,
3. so we asked a waitress to reheat the food but she put everything in a to-do box because she didn't understand English.
Due to my extensive Chinese dining experience, I forgive all the above problems. The food quality is above average for this area so I will come back and will recommend friends.
ps: They have hot pot setups on every table but they don't serve hot pot.
I decided to give Fantasy Cuisine another try, thinking they may have been having an off evening during my initial visit. In a nutshell, the food is an improvement but the service leaves something to be desired.
Let's start with the food. I went with my brothers and we decided to split the pork soup dumplings and the scallion pancake as apps. The dumplings were better than my last visit, full of flavor and nice and hot. The scallion pancakes were great, crispy and flavorful – definitely better than takeout. For my main I had the kung pao Szechuan chicken. The dish was pretty good, the chicken was a little bland but the peppers, sauce, and peanuts helped it. Fantasy Cuisine's menu is a little all over the place, but kudos to them for having a large selection of unique Szechuan dishes.
Service is somewhat improved but is still a sore spot – the servers aren't mean, they're just cold and unfriendly. It's almost as if they're working to keep all the tables afloat rather than giving the diners an experience.
Fantasy Cuisine has improved, and their food is pretty good – but their service still lacks. I would consider returning, but I'm not running back at the moment.
