I really want to like this cute little deli.
It's located right across from the Maplewood NJT station. We were passing by looking for a place to have a nice and cozy dinner after a long week of work.
Around 7pm, it was packed! So I told my husband, we gotta go here!
I like the atmosphere inside, it is apparent they just finished renovating.
Ordered the crab salad sandwich and he got the eggplant dish. Both come with house salad.
When the salad came, that's when I started to doubt my call. The leaves were wilted, signs that they have left them outside room temp. Hmm…
My crab sandwich came out, small portion but with healthy serving of the crab salad so I didn't mind. The bun though was just the store bought potato bun which was quite disappointing for me. It came with sweet potato fries.
The eggplant dish was the big disappointment. Not much flavor although the sauteed garlic spinach was quite decent.
I think this place is new, I will definitely give them another try maybe after they have a few more months to get their kitchen act together.
This place is located in the adorable downtown area. I've been here a couple times visiting a friend who lives in town. This place has great down to earth food with some quirks. The disco fries are fries with gravy and cheese that I imagine one would crave after dancing the night away to the Beegees. I wouldn't dream of stopping in here without getting them, so it's good that I don't live in Maplewood.
Do you ever choose a sandwich over a salad because you know you'll miss the carbs? I did. I chose the delicious rancho chicken sandwich over the chicken finger salad (its brother from another mother). It is one of the few salads that doesn't come with their famous croutons. Every other salad comes with the homemade croutons the size of a child's fist! The carb dilemma became a moot point next to the amazing disco fries anyways.
